My Schedule Never Changes.

Here is my DCC schedule:
11 AM - 11 PM - watch the pro's
11PM - 5 or 6 AM - play in the AZB room or watch the action tables
6AM - 10AM - sleep
10AM - 11 AM - breakfast/lunch/dinner all in one, shower, shave, call the wife.

I will keep my schedule no matter what - I love it for all 9 days.
7am - Breakfast Buffet
7:45am - Bed
4pm - Awake and drink a pot of coffee, Take care of BIZ while checking the room TV for live games.
5:30pm - Go and watch the tournament and grab a snack.
Midnight - Get In Action.
4am - Win, Lose or Draw - Start embibing my favorite beverages.
7am - Start it all over again.

Hey, It works for me!

TY & GL

I'm guessing some of the best action will be in the wee hours of the morning. This will be my first time at the DCC so I'm not sure what my schedule will be like. I'm not sure I work well with sleep deprivation either... but for 3-4 days, I'll try like a mad man to keep awake!

I have a feeling I'll be trying to watch more one-pocket than anything else.

OHB, do you know a guy named Don (his last name escapes me) who lives in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX area? He's about 60ish, has a kind of bad back and used to run with Buddy Hall. I see him every once in a while down at the Clicks Billiards in Arlington.

I'm sorry...

It is looking very doubtful that we will be attending the Derby City tournaments because of Mike's sister. We just can't put everything off until the last minute, so we decided to make the decision now so that he will have the full capacity to deal with the funeral arrangements and everything else that is anticipated to come up near that time. Hospice visited yesterday and she may last til the first of the year now, so we would rather not keep things in limbo.

We were really looking forward to it and seeing everyone, but family has to come first. I hope everyone comes back and posts lots of pictures. Please keep the money and I wish everyone good luck and happy times ahead.

Linda

Not off the top of my head and there isn't that much left up there.

Samiel - Not that I can remember.

P.P.S. - I am NOT at this point planning on organizing/running any tournaments or ring games in the room (though I think a ring game is a better idea than a tournament - which could take all week to complete); though if anyone has ideas and the initiative to set one up and run it, we are open to suggestions.

Remember there are at least 70 people that want to play in the room and have contributed - let's try to maximize the number of people that can play.

If anyone is interested I could bring the sheets I use here at my pool room for...RING GAMES.

We play a point on the 5 ball and a point on the 9 ball w/extras and race to 21 pts. Takes between 1-2 hours to play a round and gets 4,5 or 6 people involved at once. Everybody loves it because they have a chance right up until the end.

It's easy to arrange and simple to have cheap games leading to a Grand Finale.

WBM,

just wondering, how long do you guys take to play straight pool matches till 60? To an amateur like me it sounds like a lot, but judging from the relative timings of the other games it seems like you guys can play it in 0.5 hours or less...

And I'd love to volunteer for the room but I guess right now it'd just have to be relieving Randi as and when I can...until I get there I can't confirm what my schedule will be like.

seeya there,
ray

Willie, that is entirely too much sleep. Surely you mean 4 hours for the whole trip, right?:D

Rude One,
Two years ago I went Thursday morning, left Saturday afternoon, slept 3 1/2 hours total. So, you are right. But since I'm planning on winning the raffle so I can play with Jeanette and George (hopefully on the television table), this is my BIG CHANCE at television exposure - I NEED MY BEAUTY SLEEP.

Jump clinic

I spoke with <a href="www.poolclinics.com>Tom Simpson</a> tonight - he is a BCA Master Instructor. I told him about the room and he said he would be glad to stop in a give a free clinic on jumping balls. Are people interested in having him come in and do this?

OHB,
Maybe I should follow you around for a day and see if I'm missing something. Your schedule sounds somewhat more humane, I'm not as young as I used to be.

Thornintoe,
YES!! When you can get him to commit to a time; just put it on the board in the room a day or so ahead of time so people can make plans.

Steve,
Definitely bring the sheets. Especially the first 5 days, there may be time for this. In addition, IF we have extra funds we may want to have a ring game or two to give away the extra.

We REALLY don't know what we're doing, I'm sure we'll be twice as smart next year after we see what happens. I am sort of envisioning OldHasBeen deciding on most things the first 4 days, and I can help out the last 4 days. If things get slow, we can help spice them up. If things are too hectic, we can help adjust things. If things are perfect, we can shut the hell up and drink our beer.

Ray,
Maybe 50 would be better. A game to 50 would rarely take an hour (just depends on the speed of the players, and how many points the loser scores). In case you haven't noticed, some players are Lou Butera, some players are Ralf Souquet.

Current status

We WILL have a private AZB room at DCC this year; which will have a private, non-coinop, 9ft. table for the round-the-clock enjoyment of the contributors. A $20 donation gets you playing privileges on the table. Non-contributors may also get in the room for watching or socializing, but they must let me know ahead of time so I can get them on the list (or seek me or OldHasBeen out at the tournament and we will get you on the list, and get you a pass into the room). To play, however, requires an advance contribution - PM me soon if you are interested.

When the pro's are there, the table will be a "challenge the pro" table. When they are not there, it will be a challenge table with a list (#1 plays #2, then #2 plays #3, then #3 plays #4, and so on), so unless the room is empty, no one will be playing more than 2 matches in a row (this is NOT a "winner stays at the table" type of challenge table). The games will be 9ball race to 3, onepocket race to 2, straight pool to 50 points, full rack banks race to 1, short rack banks race to 2, 8-ball race to 2. The player "at the table" decides on the game. Wagers will be whatever the 2 players agree on, but $5, $10, and $20 wagers are encouraged.

Things are progressing well. We have commitments from Sarah Rousey and Alice Rim to do an hour of challenges apiece. We have a commitment from Jeanette Lee and George Breedlove to play the winners of our raffle. Two lucky AZB members will pair up with the pro's in a doubles match - possibly on the television table. We have a commitment from Grady Mathews to do a one hour seminar. Willie Jopling will appear, maybe play some Irish billiards challenges (I think he may be above average in this department). Charlie Bryant and Dee Adkins MAY appear for challenges - we're hopeful. Tom Simpson has offered to do a mini-clinic on jumping.

Sizl has completed a large banner and 2 smaller banners (one for pro signatures, one for AZB member signatures). Jack Justis is GIVING US a beautiful case for us to give away to one lucky contributor. Drawing will be Thursday of DCC, all contributors are in the pool, we'll send it to you if you're not there.

We are definitely required to have room monitors, so each day will be split into 4 shifts (MN to 6 AM, 6 AM to noon, noon to 6 PM, 6 PM to MN), starting at MN on the first Friday. Randi Mathews will be doing ALL the noon to 6 PM shifts. Semperfi will keep the key at his booth for all of the 6 PM to MN shifts - contributors may sign out the key for as long as they like, but they are monitoring the room while they have the key. This means we have most of the tournament-viewing time covered, and we only need volunteers for the 12 hour period from MN to noon - which is PRIME ACTION TIME at DCC. I'm doing MN to 6 AM on Thurs, and 6 AM to noon on the last Friday. Players that can't do a whole shift should plan on relieving Randi occasionally, or pairing up with another person to split a shift (please do it by PM between yourselves - I don't think I can juggle it, just let me know when it is accomplished). I'll post a preliminary schedule on Tuesday, then people can PM me with their choices and I will continuously update the post in a visible fashion.

We're not yet sure we have any extra funds for refreshments.

I will be providing official nametags which you can pick up at the room. It will list your real name and your screen name; and it will serve as your admission ticket to the room and the table. NO ONE PLAYS WITHOUT AN OFFICIAL NAME TAG (unless he's a pro, or unless he's bigger and tougher than zeeder or OHB ). The room monitor will have the nametags, and can give you yours if you have proper ID. For those that haven't been, the DCC gives you a picture I.D./pass that has your real name printed prominently on it; so it's no big invasion of privacy for us to do the same.

Members planning on socializing (and not contributing) should let me know, and I will get them a non-player nametag.

We have collected only $1330 so far, so keep those cards and letters coming. So far payment has been received from:

Address for mailing donation for AZ Room

Williebetmore, I have been missing in action for the last few months doing insurance adjuster work here in Katrina-Country and don't post that frequently but like the party you guys are having. I'm not sure if I will get the nod as I am waiting on the roofer to replace my roofs. Can you post the mailing address and the Pay-To name for the donation for the AZ Room?
Thanks,
JoeyA

So I can contribute and be eligible for the drawings even though I'm not going to be present? Where do I send the cash and how much do I send?

Hal,
Yes, you would be eligible for the Justis case giveaway if you contribute (even if you can't spare your precious time to join the festivities). There may be other "give-aways" though none are definite at this time. I'll PM you with the address.
