After Kline went around the rack on the break it sounded like he went out of character when he told Candy " you can't do that".

...he takes his cue apart and walks out...leaving the cue on the table..
...he's going to play the tournament outta the rack?

You were close, Scott. It was called The New Show, an hour long sketch comedy show produced by Lorne Michaels. It did crappy in the ratings and only made it a season around 1984.
