The most important contribution to pool in 10 years.

I was thinking about the different things that have happened to pool over the past ten years or so and one of the things that I SINCERELY APPRECIATE is the www.Cuetable.com.
Basically, Wei Chao's creation has revolutionized the manner in which we can demonstrate shots that we talk about everyday on forums and in emails. Wei has invented one of the greatest pool inventions of the past ten years.

If you've never utilized the program cuetable.com, then you owe it to yourself to visit and learn how to use it. They have tutorials, demonstrations, diagrams and many different tools to help you with sharing your pool shots with others.

It is relatively easy to learn and if you have trouble, one of our more learned colleagues will be happy to help. Just start a thread titled: Trouble with Cuetable.com and help will soon be on the way.

Do you have any other inventions of the past ten years that you think deserve honorable mention?

AZ Billiards!!! Where would we all be without the 'net'? That changed everything; the way we buy and sell stuff, how we communicate on all pool subjects, advertising products and events, and the list goes on and on.

Nothing else is close to how the internet and AZ has changed everything for all of us, including the pool freaks.

P.S. Joey "The Mouth" gets an Honorable Mention! Can anyone shut this guy up?

That's my line but you beat me too it by about 7 or 8 min. The internet with all it's avenues of information and goods.... az, ebay, and the CCB have been the big things in my pool world.

Agree 100%. I would put the Derby City Classic as runner-up, with Greg Sullivan as the most important person in the pool world during the past 10 years IMHO (DCC and Diamond tables are his babies). Ga Yung Kim deserves honorable mention, just because.

a little older than ten years, but how about cell phones. When I was younger, my friends and I would have to set up a time and place to play a few days out, but now, I can call several friends and we can be banging balls in less than 30 minutes. Think about it, if a hotshot road player is takin your money, and you have a buddy who can play him better than you, how would you get in contact with him to get him to where you were at? I remember calling all the local bars where my pals hung out from a pay phone, and man that sucked, I dont miss those days, lol.

Agreed. Wei, a close friend with whom I often play 3-cushion billiards, has, through Cuetable, made a huge contribution to our game.

To some extent, I feel the same about Cuetable as I once did about Accu-stats. In the 1990's, Pat Fleming gave the serious player a means by which he/she could study the pro game. In the 2000's, Wei Chao has given the serious player yet another important means of studying pool. Pat Fleming, Wei Chao and others like them have seen to it that the play of the current generation of players will remain available for inspection and analysis today and in the future.

My generation of players has often bemoaned the lack of footage and documentation of the play of Mosconi, Crane, Lassiter, Greenleaf, Worst and others. Accu-stats and Cuetable have combined to ensure that the play of Reyes, Strickland, Hall, Parica, Souquet, Varner, Sigel and others will be captured for students of the game for generations to come.

Probably out playing pool!!!

I can't believe how much time is wasted daily by members who would rather sit around trying to think of some silly question to get their name in print instead of actually getting out and accomplishing something. Pool has less and less players each year as the young are not being introduced to the sport. Between playing on the Net and playing Video Games they never have time to seek other, varied, forms of recreation. 10 years ago there were approximately 22 Pool rooms in Cincinnati. Three years ago there were 16. Today there are 4 and one of them will close in a couple of months. Nobody is supporting this industry what-so-ever. Everyone is saying how they love this sport but they are not helping it by sitting around just talking about it.

I totally agree. That's one reason why my name so seldom appears on this particular forum. This is the gossip forum. 95% of my I posts are on on the cue makers forum. Some advice on the cue makers forum is helpful in my job which happens to be - building cues.

I hope you are talking about Jay Helfert or someone else and not me. I probably put in more time on the table than any other AZBer. I teach pool, gamble, play in tournaments, practice, travel to play in tournaments, do pool commentary, take pool lessons, do marketing for pool rooms and even design and print tournament charts. :shocked2:

I vote for the measle cue ball. Anything that makes pool more TV friendly is a good thing.

I think the Alison Fisher vs. Karen Corr battles have been excellent for pool too.

This post is a joke. Any attempt to tie increased internet activity on pool websites to reduced participation in pool is ridiculous. Maybe if you and other cuemakers weren't so busy making cues, you'd all be playing and the poolhalls would be busier. Never mind, that proposition is just as ridculous as yours.
