The TIGHTEST pockets (3 3/4 inch pockets) in the WORLD? I showed you mine, show me yours.

The professional pool tournaments should starting using this as a new accepted pocket size. Any larger is just too easy to play on! If you can run a table with 3.75 inch pockets, you truly are an exceptional player and deserve applause/

I've been playing on two tables that have 3 7/8 inch pockets.

If a ball is rolling parallel to the long rail 1/4 inch off if it, the ball will not drop.

That's just not right.

It's not only about the size of the pocket but the angle of the pocket facings.

A ball can hit that same position on the facing coming from 3/8 or 1/2 inch but angling it just that bit & it will drop.

Combining tight pockets with kick out facing angles makes it a game of extreme precision required for success.

Best Wishes for You & Yours... & ALL.

Table

I've got a 9'er with 3-5/8's corner pockets a and 4-1/8 side pockets..
I'll snap a pic and post in a bit.

This table is tuned for 1pkt

Can't say my table is that tight, the corners are only 4.5

When I was younger I had them tighter by a quarter of an inch. Old age, and not wanting the table to play goofy anymore made me loosen it up.

This is an excellent size for one pocket, and perhaps practice, as you have to bring yourself to every shot. Realize there is good and bad to having a table that tight for even practice. It is very tough to get into your rhythm, and there are shots that you have to play which those pockets just won't accept.

For rotation or straight pool, if I want to see players have balls hang up in the pockets, I would go out to my nearest bar and watch that.

When I watch professionals I want to see them put packages together, and the other player do the same, or wilt under the heat.

This is the tight table at Buffalo's billiards in New Orleans it might really be tightest table on the planet lol

The OP's pic is just 1/8 inch smaller than the two tables I have been playing on, but I think it would accept a ball better than the 3 7/8 inch pockets that I am playing on because of the angle of the pocket facing.

The two tables that I'm referring to are basically where all of the gambling is done by the better players.

Those tables can rather quickly show who the better shooter (& player) is instead of a long back & forth even type of match.

There is even an older Diamond table that has 4" pockets that plays a bit tighter than these two but it banks better. It was reworked with different rails than the factory.

I never played on that tan table at Buffalo's, as SP99 said, that's just ridiculous, for a pool table.

Best Wishes for ALL.

Of the tables I've played on the most difficult had snooker cut pockets. One is a Diamond with 4" pockets and the other is a 10' snooker table that I'd play on using regular pool balls.

I actually ran a rack of 6 ball on that snooker table. I ran the 6 down the rail to finish and still say it's the best shot I've ever made

If you or anybody else wants to see how a table compares to other tough tables around the county, take measurements and post results on the Table Difficulty Factor (TDF) Sticky Thread.

There are some really tough tables on the list already, and it is always interesting to see numbers for other tough tables.

Catch you later,
Dave

From the image it looks like the pocket throat is wider than the mouth.
It also looks like there are are no down angles on your pocket facings.

My sentiments exactly here.
I had my 9 foot GC rails modified to 4 1/4" corners 4 3/4" sides and after a year and a half of serious practice/drills I've determined that 4.5" is perfect for Pool.

You mentioned your tightened table was to play goofy and I absolutely agree. With the cloth full broken in, there are many shots that will be rejected even if hit pure-just because of the speed required for position on the next shot.

On the plus side, you are forced to seriously hone in on each shot, so self discipline is enhanced.

But to have fun, get some runs going, and have the opportunity to cheat pockets to get better position, I find myself going to the local pool hall or a friends house to do just that.

IMO a fun table is the original gold crown 4.75 corners 5.25" sides.
A work/tournament table is 4.5 corners 5" sides.

And anything smaller is limiting the experience of the game in all aspects, from a player standpoint, and a spectator.

*** on a side note- when big Ko played Dennis O down at Steinway on that 4 " or 4 1/8" corners table, as a spectator who was watching the stream, I felt bored at times because of the reserve both players had. The table just didn't allow the artistry to come out in both their games. This was a direct result of the pocket sizes. So tighter is not always better plaguing and watching IMO*****

I could google it, but what is the standard for a snooker table?

World Snooker never disclose the exact size (no idea why), although snooker fans seem agreed it is roughly 84 mm (which is something like 3.25 inches I think).

This however is fairly representative for a club table:

I think the Russians get the gold:

I've seen a few clips of Pyramid played on Youtube, its amazing how easy they make it look, to the casual onlooker (who's never even seen a Pyramid table, let alone played) it looks impossible!
