The very best stroke drill

Well Joe...great minds think alike :-).

Yes, I'll be at Derby Monday through Friday. Last year I watched 10 foot action exclusively - spellbinding; but this year it ends Monday AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH. Not sure what I will do with myself; might have to play :-).

Dam, we're having our Rotation finals the first Sat Sun, wish you were there for that! But I'll c ya on Monday bud.

Help a brother out. What is a Mother Drill #1? :scratchhead:

Pool School has a series of 7 Mother Drills.
Mother Drills 1-2-3 are all about your stroke.
Mother Drills 4-5-6-7 are all about the skills needed to play great pool.

Mother Drill 1 is a strict stroke drill using SPF as indicators.

NOTE: There is a huge difference between a building your Stroke Drill and a Testing your stroke drill!

Randy that did not answer that Man's question

He asked you what Mother Drill 1 is and you gave ZERO explanation about the drill itself. I guess you could have just said to him FO if you wanna know pay for pool school and I will be glad to show you the Mother 1 drill.

If you really want to work on it;

This one shows flaws pretty quick also. Object ball frozen, CB within 13mm of the rail;

And this one just cuz I get a kick out of it

Nice to see someone share information instead of just mining this forum for students.

This makes me want to buy ANOTHER one of your DVDs.

Good luck at the Derby, wish I could make it.

I'm not a good player, nor an instructor. But one thing I have been wondering about is the stroke usually breaks down (for me) on cut shots with lots of spin or power shots.

I have not worked that much on this particular weakness of mine, but was just thinking that a stroke drill should work on an individuals weakness.

For example, I can make the CB come back to my tip all day long (slight exaggeration of course) on the standard up and down the table shot. But that skill does not transfer over (for me) to a real game situation.

No doubt in my mind. POWER STROKE DRILLS from "Play Great Pool." (Chapter 36 explains the drill, and the origin of its development...interesting story...but of course I am completely biased...not "hawking" anything, but its the very best single way to improve a stroke for any player no matter his technique...period....).

I'm not that far along into the book yet, but I gotta say...literally everything in this book so far has made so much sense, largely due to the depth and breadth of quality teaching. Looking forward to the drills!

The up and down, return to the tip drill is usually done at lag speed.

That might be good practice for long straight in slow rollers.

I think being in stroke really means your stick is pointed at the same place your eye is looking. You can "have a good stroke" but if you are not lined up, you will complain you are not in stroke.

Straight in stop shots with the Joe Tucker 3rd Eye Stroke Trainer on my cue. Probably the biggest key to my improvement over the past 6 months.

OK.....sorry. Here is a better answer.

Mother Drills 1-2-3 are all hands on drills requiring an outside set of eyes, like an Instructor. Mother Drill 1 requires supervision.

With that being explained I will answer your other question also: I have shown Mother Drill 1 to thousands of students for free. Just always "hands-on"!

Have a great New Year

Mother Drills...contact Scott Lee. He will explain. He will not obligate you in any way. Write or call Scott. He is sincere and easy to deal with.

I use the Mother Drills...my favorites being stop shots and stroke speeds. 1.2.3.4.5

That's a great place to start the drill.

Randy, some day I hope I get the chance to meet you in person. You seem like someone that would be fun to talk pool with and play a few games. You and Scott are on my bucket list for sure. I'm glad pool has people like you.

(There are several others on this forum as well, didn't mean to leave anyone out)

P.S. - Joe Tucker's guaranteed improvement drills are also GREAT....damn, did he just post that??....what are the chances of that, weird world we live in.

I don't like the idea using a full stroke for different speed controls.
What I mean by this is a lot of weaker player tend to miss easy shots or maybe just stop the ball when they needed 2-3 inches of draw etc.............. because they decelerate when using a full backstroke while trying to hit a ball softly.
IMHO when you need to work on close quarters hitting the ball softly but still needing to maintain your inside kill spin or a small draw shot, the best cue action is a short backstroke with a short follow through. Something like a 2" backstroke with a 2" follow through will allow you to maintain your desired spin while hitting the ball softly.

I use the drill of hitting the CB to a rail and holding the finish position of the cue and let the CB come back and touch the tip. When I first started instead of the Buddy Hall trainer, my teacher made me stroke thru a coke bottle, now that is snug.---Smitty
