Top 6 bar table players

I see what you're up too, Big Nasty.

This should be your ring game... maybe not the best, but it will be the most entertaining!

SVB
Walden
Matlock
McCready
Townsend
Nevel

Make this happen and you can charge $100 a day and I'll still be watching.

If your talking RING GAME. That could make a big difference in selection. IMO No safeties! Just straight shooting players.

I take
SVB
Gabe Owen
Jamie Baraks
Dave Matlock
James Walden
Jesse Bowman

I know that right

No one has to beat Stevie Moore on the short track. ;)

If my memory serves me Stevie Moore has won the ultra tough, super hard, talent packed Smokey Mountain Shootout about 3 or 4 times. And he leads the list for most wins, and for those that don't know it's always been held on bar boxes.

Everyone has posted so many good responses, but I couldn't name just five.

I do know that everyone should have Walden on their lists.

Corey Deuel and Larry Nevel could beat ANYONE on a given day.

McCready is not exactly in his prime, but was once the guy to beat (and could probably still kick some ass).

Matlock, well, yeah you know.

Even Glenn Atwell could be on that list.

I did see a couple guys post some interesting ones. Dan Louie is a great player. (I saw him Friday night. Nicest guy)

Shane is now the King of the Hill, obviously.

I want to see

Walden vs. Van Boening for $50,000

all around on the "box"

9 or 10 ball, 8 ball, and one pocket or straight pool.

Or just 8 ball, and 10

I agree...

Matlock
Walden
Townsend
Moore
SVB
Archer

If its a ring game then that makes a big difference... IMO
That would push some younger players higher up the food chain

I agree that Dan Louie is one of the nicest guys around, but he really doesn't belong on a "top 6 in the US" list. I would love to see one pocket on thebox at that level, I bet we see a lot of 8 and outs!

-matlock
-hennessee

There's one guy that has been in the finals of the 128 man shootout 4 times in last 6 years, and it ain't Stevie. lol

He might of won it all those years too if he didn't stay up all night Saturday drinking until daylight.:D
How are you doing Brian?:)

I agree that the format makes a difference. Everyone knows the bar table as a scufflers and road warrior's game. Although Corey, Archer, Nevel, Gabe, and others are great on the short track, and can beat anybody on a given day, these are not the kinds of players that I grew up watching in all night slug-fests to see who could dominate the bar table (although Archer in his early days did fit that bill). People like Pickle, Scotty T., Keith M., Larry Price, Matlock; even Walden, Hennessee, Bowman, and Tommy Stephenson are the types of faces that I remember in the more seedy environments of the past where bar table dominance was contested. THis is a tough question.

I thought about this for a while, and it's impossible to pick 6. I started out with about 20 names on my list and after I would think a while, I would go and remove one.

With a gun to my head, I'd have to go with...........

SVB
Matlock
Stevie
Bowman
Deuel
Archer

With honorable mention to Pickle, Scotty T, Keither, Larry Price, and James Walden.

Walden honorable mention? Come on. I like him on a rag (not a prissy air condition perfect cloth, Diamond, etc.) against almost anyone.

Six:
James
Shane
Corey
Johnny
Matlock and McCready Tie (the old Keith would have been in his own list with the "big ball" shoot again).

Oh yeah, and me. By damn it, me. (On a given day, playing a lesser player. Just ask me at that time ten beers in and I'll tell you.)

Bobby Pickle
Larry nevel
Shane McGinnes(sp?)- of Olathe ring game fame

Shane McMinn

Also, Jamie Baraks and Chad Vilmont both are very capable of putting together six's and seven's on a bar table and have won several midwest tournaments.

This probably won't betoo poular, but I'm not sure Matlock is going to be there anymore or that he even wants to be. I think the IPT ordeal really deflated David as he really put a lot of effort into that and it brokehis heart. It pains me to say it as I was oneof the biggest Matlock fans on the planet.

There is another up and comer from the KC area too named James Barracks Jr. This guy isonly 19 and breaks like Tarzan.
