Don't miss this on the AZ Homepage. What I got out of it was CW wants to be the MC Coach for at least five years and a very small group of top players want the fans to pay to watch but be blind and shut-up about how they feel. Johnnyt

Right....rah rah................let the fans pick the team

Congratulations

To Johnny Archer for his appropriate and gracious message there. You are a class act sir.

As to the rest of the whine fest............

Yes, and can we use our entire continent as Europe does ?

If so I vote for Alex !

I don't think the powers that be in the US want any outside help. Just the board members of the ABP is plenty to pick from. Johnnyt

My thoughts as a fan:

1.) Too many excuses. USA lost, plain and simple. No need for a hostile press release directed at the fans.

2.) Where is Shane's endorsement? I would hold his comments in the highest regard.

3.) I don't like how they directed criticism toward the past USA Captions

4.) I don't disagree that the Euros have an advantage regards to being better groomed and prepared.

5.) I wish the Mosconi Cup would become a World event

6.) I honestly don't like the overall attitude of Mike Dechaine. Great player for sure but too arrogant for my liking. Great win vs Ralf so kudos for that. But you should take a class in humility. Especially how you said you had an easy draw at Turning Stone with either Shuff or Pinegar.

7.) Mr. Putnam was right about how he earned his spot through the qualifiying requirements.

8.) And lastly, I don't like how I felt after reading this. I feel like my parents just yelled at me and sent me to my room.

Lots of typing and very little forward thinking.... What will be the amendment to the release if the Mighty Earl ends up in the top 5 in points next year.....

I have nothing to say about Mike Dechain's portion as he showed us that he belonged there and I hope he makes it back. I wouldn't say I am a fan of Dechaine yet but that could change. He's fairly new so time will decide many things...

Rodney's comment of captain or no captain they all know how to play pool begs the question of why CW then when it's a buzz kill for most fans.. The part about not talking to the press I assume was directed at Barry.... I would have liked a list of the 1000x more items CW did over Varner but that's just because I like facts....

Johnny's statement was pretty much all class... I would have liked a little ownership or insight to the loss since every man didn't "do their part" but it is win as a team or lose as a team so I think that would be highly unfair....

All and all I think the release should have been a thank you to match room and all of the fans with a promise to bring the cup back next year... The "Europe got all the rolls" post match statement coupled with the Ifs sentiment voiced in this release just doesn't leave a warm fuzzy......

I did not exactly get that, he claims Johan was coach for 5 years and that it has helped, and then goes on to rah rah his own coaching success while dislocating his shoulder with all of his self back patting. But I cannot claim he went and said "Matchroom, put me in as coach for 5 years and we will win!".

All of the "Charlie is a great coach, he helped me alot" crap is kinda sick, I can just picture Charlie standing there looking over the shoulder of each player at the ABP/DP headquarters as they typed that banal and cliche drivel.

What I mostly got from it? "You fans suck, you don't know anything about the game or any of it's workings, every fan of the game should just STFU because we know best, please, send help NOW, Charlie is crazy!!!"

Not sure what the whole point of that message was??? Was it supposed to make the fans sympathetic towards them? Whatever the purpose was it REALLY came across as "sour grapes".

By the looks of the attitudes in this message, American Pool just got set back another year.

Archer's message was the only one with class.

Well said, totally agree

I guess I read between the lines a little different than you on the 5 year thing. Johnnyt

The statement is so bad that it's difficult to respond or classify it. Honestly, these guys would be better off just staying quiet. It reminded me of all the half-baked Barry Berhman crap they issued around the time of the Open. It's really beyond embarrassing.

We here would all like the U.S. to win but have we forgot how nine ball sets roll.. These guys are the best at what they do. They played the best all year. Hatch is one of my favorate players but he didn't perform to get to play.. Why cry. Its very easy to point fingers and say a player doesn't belong there. Who are we??

Absolutely right. Although the subject matter is more severe, this statement almost reminded me of Sandusky's interview with Bob Costas.

These guys need to worry about shooting pool and getting the WIN. Stop with all the politics.

The Mosconi Cup has all the allure of Battle of the Network Stars with Robert Conrad and Gabe Kaplan running a 50 yard dash with head bands and knee high tube socks . Its a 1 day tournament held over 4 days because they only stream 1 table . It also is under the control of 1 person , the Barry Hearn guy , i'm guessing that he has rights to the name , Mosconi Cup.

Charlie Hearn , i mean Barry Hearn is a promoter , he has experience at this , nothing wrong with that. Isn't he responsible for the growth of snooker in Britain as far as television goes ?Mosconi wouldn't have lent his name to a 9-ball only tournament. How about 14.1 games to 100 , race to 2 ?All the people commenting in the statement are ABP guys of which Charlie is the head.

Glad there are small regional tours for those who enjoy pool and can watch decent players play. This is like the workplace , did warehouse work most of my life , and at every place there were straw bosses who wanted to control everything , always one amateur psychologist who thought if he could buffalo everyone the would kiss his ass. You to tell these guys to F off and that they aren't your boss , and if they threaten you then say lets get it on , not outside , right here at work so everyone can see.

Pocket billiards has alot of straw bosses when there really is no boss or controller , if you have the money you can do what you want. With the funding , you could start another region against region Cup and people will play in it. It is all money and control , like since the beginning of time. The educational system here has spent the last 50 years trying to destroy the idea of patriotism , and the British and the French are sniping at one another now over the economic crisis involving the common market.

Mosconi Cup!!! Mosconi Cup!!!!!!!!! You talking Mosconi Cup!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 Reasons Why U.S.A Lost 2011 Mosconi Cup

1.Charlie Williams as team captain.
I mean he played the great Johnny Archer wearing a cardigan on a UStream tournament I viewed earlier this year and you wonder why Johnny checks for lint on the table cloth.LOL

2.Europes team spirit was better than the U.S.A.

3.Barry Hearns Matchroom management.U.S.A billiards needs a guy like him at the helm to shake up the game.

4.Sky TV time schedule.I was expecting midnight starts but it was 7pm starts here must have been 2pm or so U.S.A time zone.

5.Look at the AZbilliards money list.

I have to agree with a lot of the comments posted on this subject.

I wonder, if team Europe would have lost, if the comments would have been the same to their fans? I personally think not. I believe there might have been a simple apology for not coming with the win with a guarantee that they would try their hardest next year to bring the cup home. The class of the European players strike me as being much higher than team USA.

I also feel that Team Europe plays better as a team because they respect each other all year, not just when the Mosconi Cup is coming around. I think there are too many players here in the US feel they should get respect before they have to pay it forward. Bottom line is, we all put our pants on the same way. Some have more talent than others and some put more practice in than others, but one person is not more important than another. To say the fans need to keep their opinions to themselves is just not right. Just because we don't play at their level, doesn't mean we don't know what would work or what wouldn't.

I spent 2 full days at Turning Stone this past weekend. I watched a lot of matches and seen a lot of different players. I have the utmost respect for Ralf Souquet. The man had complete composure all weekend even in the worst position. We all could learn something from him. There are a couple of US players that conduct themselves in the same way, but those are few and far between.

Bottom line is this. Don't blame the fans or the bashing that was received, for the loss you incurred. Simply say you tried your best, which I certainly believe, and move on. Come back next year, keep your emotions in check, and bring the Mosconi Cup to where it belongs...Right here in the Good ol USA!
