Untrue Rumor about DCC

As I have now been called by four different people on this matter perhaps it is time to make a post about it. There is a rumor going around that no gambling will be allowed this year at the DCC because it is in a casino and the casino wants all the action for themselves.

I have talked directly with Mark Griffin who assures me that the casino has assured him that this is not the case. The action room will go on as always. The match-ups on the tables are unaffected by the new location. Ring games, head-to-heads, side action, whatever, are all going on as in the past. So get your gamble on and head on out!

Mark, Holly, or anyone else connected with this event please feel free to add whatever clarifications to this post you feel are appropriate or required.

Yeah but you can sure bet that some of those pool players might win some big money but just end up walking down the hall and blowing it at the craps table instead of losing it to other pool players while in action. I think the other gambling there is going to hurt the action a little bit.

Jerry, you're right, that rumor is really going around. I have heard it repeatedly. So I am glad you took the time to post correct information. Rep to you.:)

What is also great about the DCC is that when a player wins in the tournament, they get paid.

When did poolpromotors start with this?

Wonder how the players will react when they get paid immidiately...

Damn, I was hoping the rumour was true...

I have been woofing to so many people that I simply can't afford to play all of them, and this was a golden oppurtunity for me to go through DCC without having to play at all :o

Oh well... Looks like I need to spend more time in the practice-room the next two weeks...

Thanks for the bad news Jerry!!!

It may be due to being in Indiana instead of Kentucky. I was told that it is legal to gamble on pool in Kentucky as long as it is between the players.

I was told this a few years ago while at the Derby when I seen the police walking around the tables and there was money being exchanged.

The past few years, there's been uniformed security posted in the action room at the EW, but they weren't there to police the gambling. The only thing I ever saw one of them "enforce" was the smoking ban. I believe the law is similar in Indiana as well concerning wagering on pool....as long as the wagering is between the players, there's nothing illegal about it.

Just so everyone knows. The gambling boat is a good walk from the pool tournament. Noone has to go past any gambling machines or tables to go to or from the pool area.

I think everyone is making too much about the event being held on a gambling property.

The boat (gambling area) is quite a ways from the pool area so a player has to make a conscious effort to go to the boat.

So ----- let all have a good time.

Mark said it best on a recent TAR broadcast over the weekend:

Harrah's has 52 properties nationwide. That is 52 opportunities of locations to hold pool tournaments. With the economy what it is today and casino revenues down, maybe some of these properties would like 100 or more players to show up for 4 days along with 300-400 fans/spectators.

Casinos are good for pool. Anyone that thinks otherwise needs to re-evaluate and show me something that is more successful than the pool events held in casinos. Valley Forge is the only one that comes close. US Open has players but does it have massive spectators? The BCA is a blast every year in Vegas in May. Turning Stone. The Reno bar table events. The Seminole Tribe events in Florida. Spreading that out to other locations around the country and around the year can only be a good thing.

People spreading rumors is horrific.
Mark G. and Gregg D. are very accessible, highly accessible. I suggest giving them a call, sending an email and reaching out before those spreading these rumors continue to do so.

These pro pool/poker players are a tough breed Mark. They can go days without real food or a shower and can sleep in a car (theirs or someones else's) in the dead of winter. I don't think a little walk will curb their desire to bust that 'ol casino.

Thanks Mark, I just want directions to the card room.

Hi, everyone, Sunny here. I just want to let everyone know if you have any question -big or small about Derby City Classic at the Harrah's this year, you can post your questions on: 1) Derby City section forum, 2)reply on this thread or 3)PM me directly. I will be more than glad to answer all questions, no matter how strange it maybe and list them all in the thread named "DCC FAQs" (Frequently Asked Questions) in DCC forum section. I promise that all of my answers will be - direct from the "HORSE'S mouth" being it's from Gregg Sullivan, Mark Griffin or DCC Staffs. I will not post any guesstimated or fictional answers. So, Please, fire away!!! :)

I will start with number one...

1. Are gambling/ action matches allowed at DCC - Harrah's? Will the casino bosses or security interfere with my action? Will I get arrested?

- Yes, No and No, if you follow the golden rules.

Anytime! If there is a table not being utilized for a tournament match and upon clearing with the tournament directors, do claim your table and bet away.

** Catch 22: There WILL be signs posted by the casino "NO GAMBLING ALLOWED, EXCEPT IN DESIGNATED AREA" meaning the boat. Ignore them (don't you love breaking rules?), just like you do with most signs you see at the local pool room. Honestly, do you follow the sign when it says no gambling? Just use your common sense, though. They are required to put up signs. Just don't flash a neon sign over your head to show there's a $take on that match.

Couple of tips for you to follow so you don't cut your action experiences short. Oh, FATBOY ~ read this over 3 times:)... If you still don't understand any part, feel free to call me.

- No yelling out into the room "I take all side action against my horse!".
- No dumping of your Louis Vuitton bags filled with $$$$ on the table to show you are serious.
- No posting Benjamins over the light. If you don't trust your opponent, find a person to hold the $take. (I would appreciate if tipped, lol:)

- Do not make silly matches that will bring attention to your table, such as playing the set without wearing your shirt and showing off that Buddha belly which you've been nurturing since Senior high school... Yes, Tony, I'm talking to you.

- No KINO Board! or any gadgets. Absolutely not! Buck Tooth, Crack Tooth, it doesn't matter, Platinum Tooth, no exception!!!
- No pitching quarters...if the game isn't played with balls and sticks, take it to your room-you paid mighty money for it and you might as well make use of it, LOL.

Did I leave anything out?

Oh, NO DOGS!!! Leave your pets at home, Berry. This is not pet friendly hotel and it's not Motel 6.

Hmm, I think I created enough enemy for one night, don't you think?

I've always thought they should allow the dog................................and bar HIM.

I spoke with Greg Sullivan today and here's the scoop. No money on the lights, or on the table. All bets must be held by someone. No bundles of cash can be displayed openly and counted out on the table or elsewhere. In other words be DISCREET about your gambling and there will be no problems. Loud woofing and yelling will be frowned upon. Make your games in as quiet a manner as possible.

The casino management understands that the pool players will gamble. They only ask that we do so discreetly. I hope that isn't too hard for people to understand.
