I can't begin to describe how disappointing and disgraceful this whole ordeal is.
After the last US open, where the field was more deep and higher rated than the world championships! The US Open finally reached heights like never before in 2017, and here comes the Behrman ATV to drive right on through it and bring it back down.

To the Behrman family, do your father's memory proud and get out of the way and make this the event of the year in the pool world.

Just enjoy the show Pat puts on and stop looking for an easy paycheck.

I may be out of line but I don't care at this point. After 2017, we finally had a world calibre US Open and the level of play, intensity, and heart the players (from the four corners of the earth) brought was inspirational. But it just wasn't good enough for the little people on the side with the Champaign glasses.

Those are tough words, but not innacurate.

This event is as prestigious as any, worldwide.

Let it go or let it grow.

Us open 9 ball

I’m pretty sure this is the problem. The expenses associated with this event are huge. If it can’t support itself, it will change or die. Don’t be so fast to condemn Brady, this is a rough tough problem.

Mark Griffin

I guess not making money for the effort put into it wouldn't have much to do with it.

There's so many people here that can do better I can't believe they don't do it.

I think we agree it is the (lack of) profitability that keeps this event from getting up to highway speed.

Understandably, the owners can't use it as a loss leader, it is their only product.

Well they do get a real big boost in revenue for their Pool Room and im betting the only reason Pat gets involved is because he gets the video income on the back end..

You really think the time around the open is markedly more $ than other weeks?

I have no idea, but when I was there at open time and off, it wasn't greatly diffrrent.

I would think it has to be a lot more just based on at least 1500 more pool players in town than reg weeks and the tournament room is full most weeknights at 1AM. If he is doing that year round, he should be VERY well off. I could be wrong.

Maybe 150 players tops that week. The 100 or so in the tournament and whoever came to watch.

You're talking about one week.

Barry threw a lot of good money after bad to put on the tournament.

Years ago he could recoup from the "casino" and other sources but getting bigger and bigger just caused him more expenses he paid out of pocket. Dreams and ego was the downfall.

The pool room definitely didn't need the tournament to make any extra money.

If the US Open was a movie , "The Making of US Open" action thriller would be a bigger box office hit than the movie itself :D

I'd like to see 64 man field and play it at QMasters. Technically it wouldn't be the "Open" so call it the "Invitational".

Barry should have sold glue. I hear that can provide millions in support!

My brother and I went to many U. S. Opens and we'd love to go every year, but the Behrman bullshit just killed it for us. True, we are Germans so punctuality matters to us. When matches that are suppose to start at 8PM start at 11PM and 11PM matches start at 1 AM that's unacceptable to us. They finally did start using a template rack so that the15 minute racking arguments were eliminated but still there is way too much drama. I go to watch pool. Not this crap.

But the end of the line was the dog and pony show prior to the finals. I don't go to pool tournaments to hear the National Anthem or be told what a wonderful man Barry Behrman was: How they keep a straight face while praising this low life vermin is one of my live's greatest unanswered questions.

Let Pat or Mark run the damn thing THEIR WAY and I'll pay $300 a ticket for VIP seats, otherwise, I'm OUT and I truly don't give a damn if there ever is another U. S. 9-ball open. The only great American pool player left is Shane anyway. The U. S. Open isn't about the U. S. anymore.

The Mosconi Cup is the other great farce in this sport. We send a team that the European G team could beat (and they are the best we've got) and the Philippines has at least 50 players that could beat team USA like a drum. Taiwan could spot us the 5 ball. Face it, this game is no longer an American game. We frankly suck at it. So, if there isn't a U. S. Open who cares?

In my experience, you guys are both right, about the crowds.

Prior to the new, 128 player field, the Q was packed with players, lots of action, 24/7.

With the new format, you have less shortstops and more International pros that don't spend much time at The Q, looking for action. The old 256 player field simply had more players. The last couple of years, the Q was much less crowded, no waiting list necessary.

... I am curious about what being German has to do with punctuality? ...
Germans are almost but not quite as punctual as the Swiss.
It really helps if you travel by train.

You do know that Barry Behrman passed away. Your remarks are distasteful, and I resent them.

Germans have a strong history, not all of it good, and I know you don't want us to go there, now, do you?

I'm completely aware that Barry Behrman died. In fact, once I found that out we celebrated by going back to the open with the expectation that Pat Fleming would eliminate the Berhman insanity we found so repulsive from the tournament. Sadly, his family was still involved (to the detriment of the tournament) and that's why we haven't been back since.
