> I haven't been on for 3-4 days now and want to tell everyone why.

I went to my usual bar Fri night, and beat the 9-ball ghost 17-7 on the bar table. No human opponents were available.

Afterwards,I was eating nachos and drinking Sprite with my closest female friend, knowing she was too drunk to drive home.

The next thing I know,I woke up in an AMBULANCE.

For reasons even the neurosurgeon that treated and examined me still wasn't able to find out or explain,I passed out and busted my head open on the floor. The only explanation he gave me was that I had a skull fracture from the fall.

I don't remember passing out. I don't remember being rolled over and puking.

The next thing I know I was in the ambulance asking what the hell happened.

I was airlifted from the local hospital to Jackson,Tn and spent the weekend there and was released Mon.

My head still hurts some,but I'm upright...Tommy D.

That sounds like it could have been a seizure. Were any extremities moving? In any case I hope you recover fully from whatever it was. I hate doctors but I believe in this case I’d get a second opinion. Johnnyt

Do you have a history of concussions?

Damn, man!

2x I have passed out coz of nachos. No, not coz of nachos.

I did pass out 2x as a result of low blood pressure, once while on a bike ride. Freaked people out, but I had a helmet on!

Now I can feel it coming and puttin my head lower than heart relieves it.

Did you get any light-headed feelings prior to, or was it blaaaaam?

Next time you are coming to Jackson you could at least let me know, LOL!

Glad you recovered, hope it never happens again.

sounds like the ghost got some revenge! But, seriously, do you think someone may have spiked your drink or do you think it was something else? Thank God you weren't driving when it happened. I agree with the others, get that 2nd opinion. I hope all goes well for ya.

You don't remember because of the head trauma. Head trauma causes you to lose memory right before the accident. Most likely what happened to you is you fainted. It was probably triggered by nausea (since you said you vomited). Some people are more prone to this than others.

There is a thing in your brain called the Vagus nerve. Nausea can trigger it to react. It restricts blood flow to your brain and causes dizziness and fainting. Some people have a very strong Vagus nerve reaction. You turn white and clammy, and in extreme cases, collapse.

The worst case I have ever seen of this was with my wife. One day in the office she was feeling ill, tuned white and fainted. I cuaght her before she could fall but she basically turned white, went limp and collapsed in a free fall. She came to in a few seconds, disoriented, and we called for an ambulence. She became somewhat stable, but could not get up or she would turn white and faint again at each attempt. The ambulance had to take her to the ER and it turned out to be an intenstinal inflammation (probably in reaction to some medication) . I have never seen someone so sick - she basically had no control of her bodily functions at all for 4 to 6 hours.

Bad nachos = nausea = fainting = head injury, that would make sense. You should get checked out, of course, preferably by an internal medicine doctor.

Still Upright

Glad to hear you are still amongst us.
The bar owners usually have tapes running for their protection , they usually won't let anyone see them but since no one else seems to be involved , I would ask if they could go over the tape at that time and see what happened.

Are you sure one of these Main Forum trolls didn't "swing" in and "embrace" you for something you said? Maybe someone passed the post on you. :D

Seriously, glad you made it back.

That's an unusual story for sure. YOu obviously passed out. No seizures in the past or family history of seizures, and no super drinking, I assume.

Count your blessings. Live life like it was your last day.

You should come by my house to fix that low blood pressure problem. All you have to do is tell my wife that you are a pool player and she'll start reading you the riot act as she sends you down the road with your blood pressure pegging 160 over 100.

I have a friend that has similar problems and I'm going to tell him about getting his head lower than his heart.

Thanks,
JoeyA

Glad you're well and on the mend. My wife had some very serious life threatening complications from a urinary tract infection. Some really scary neurological problems resulted. Check everything you can man. I'd hate to see you go through what she did.

It does sound a lot like a sudden drop in blood pressure although that usually happens after you were sitting and get up. I have seen a few totally healthy people pass out due to a sudden drop in BP.

Glad you weren't hurt worse and here's to hoping it doesn't happen again!

> The CAT scan was done Fri,over and done within 3 min,no info yet. My appt with neurosurgeon is Tue.

The last conversation with the neuro went like this. He told me that I suffered a skull fracture from the fall, but said he had NO info on exactly what caused it. He did say that my blood sugar was 308,which may be high and I guess it is. BUT,it wasn't so high or low that it caused a diabetic failure and collapse. He added that we may never know what caused it. Blood pressure was never found to be crazy high.

He added that what they knew for sure was that I was not assaulted or drugged, and that even with the head injury it had been proven that I obviously could not be killed by conventional weapons, his own words. His explanation was that in his career,95% of patients with same head injury I had typically die as a result, and the majority that do survive spend the rest of their lives in a hospital or catastrophic injury center, but in my case I didn't even bleed externally and no surgery was needed.

As far as alcohol,I had exactly one Bud Light, and that was 2 hours before the fall. Diabetic meds were taken 4-5 hours before, and didn't even take a shot that night.

The only other real head trauma I can ever remember was a helmet-to-helmet shot taken during a high school football game. I was in the process of breaking up a pass, wound up making 2 hand contact with the ball in the air,and by the time I got both feet down and made a move, was dinged with solid contact but not what I'd consider violent or rough. I went down, ball was taken out of my hands by the ref,and I got up slowly and was helped walk off. The game was practically over, and my parents took me to the ER. Told that this was a slight to moderate concussion, and told what it meant and what to expect. The headaches and blurry vision took 4-5 days to fix themselves, and on the 6th I was examined and cleared to play after tests showed I appeared to be good as new.

This time, the head hurt unbelievably in the hospital, and bad enough I sought out pain meds at home and used them for 2 days because I wasn't prescribed any. It laid off some but was still uncomfortable for 3 more, then it subsided. I caught a cold about the 6th day,and was laid up,but the consistent feeling was my ears were TORE up.

It's now been 2 weeks and I'm about as normal as possible,no pain, mind is sharp, but having some ringing in my ears similar to problems I've had with infections.

Thanks for all of you,Tommy D.

Well, thank goodness for your apparently, extremely, hard head.

It's too bad, but happens a lot, that the medicos can not pinpoint exactly what went on in situations like yours. Good to know, though, that they did a good workup on you and nothing bad showed up.

Glad to hear you are feeling better and, hopefully, this all will remain where it belongs, in your rear view mirror.

Best,
Brian kc
