just kidding! that was a joke headline to set up this one-pocket question. (i've only seen efren on video and he simply amazes me.)

to the query: if you were to recommend one -- and only one -- dvd on one-pocket, which one would it be?

the audience is someone who has been playing for only a few months and her game, to be generous, reeks!

i realize it's sort of unfair because there are so many good dvds out there. and new ones -- such as scott frost -- to come. but i'd still appreciate your suggestions.

thanks!

I've watched Efren play many times and the very best and most entertaining pool I have ever seen is Efren matched up gambling at one-pocket. The best opponents are first
scott
frost and second a toss up between Cliff Joiner and Tony Chohan. Tony's the better player but Cliff comes with some great shots too.

I agree with CreeDo on Winning One Pocket but it is out of print and expensive. Jack Koehler's Upscale One-Pocket is still in print, much cheaper, and geared toward beginning players. I am not sure about DVDs for beginners.
Grady's stuff is usually pretty good, Billy Incardona has a One Pocket DVD out, the late Willie Jopling had one that I've heard is good. Any of these may be good beginner info but I've never seen them. Any AccuStats tournament matches are great, I have some of those, not sure without looking which ones at the moment, Corey and Efren, I think. Would also recommend any of Freddy the Beard's books/DVDs on banking.

For entertainment value get the '06 Derby City semifinals and finals with Efren playing Pagulayan and Miller. This is runout one pocket from Efren, very entertaining.

> The best Efren 1P videos that are commonly available are him demolishing Corey Deuel and Larry Nevel in the DCC finals.

My personal fave however is pretty rare now. I called Pat at Accu-Stats one time and asked him if he had any GAMBLING videos. He said he had just one,it was from the 1991 Willards tournament,a race to 4 1P for 5000 between Efren and Grady. It's a one camera,no commentary video but does have an audio track so you can hear them bantering.

The opening sequence is worth whatever you have to pay to get it. Efren plays safe off Grady's break, and leaves him buried in the same part of the stack 5-6 times in a row.

After the match, there is several minutes of Efren running out racks of 15 ball rotation. Tommy D.

Tommy: that's pretty cool that you thought to call and ask for some "behind the counter" stuff, and managed to score a rare video like that. Is this VHS? Will this ever get put onto DVD do you think? I hate to think it'll be lost once that tape degrades. I'd love to watch it.

> Yes,it was VHS,and sadly my copy vanished years ago :(. I just might know where a Windows Media copy of it is,however :thumbup2:. Tommy D.

There used t be a video on Youtube of Alex and Jose in a one pocket tournament and it was great to watch. It is several parts long and has great quality and commentary but I have not been able to find it for a while.

Frost vs Efren for sure!

At my OTR site we had Efren vs Frost in there race to 8 for $5000 battle but recently at the DCC Accustats captured Efren vs Frost again playing for the cash, it was just released. Check it out here.

I will also have out Power One Pocket with Scott Frost in about a month or so, we are shooting our last time we hope tomorrow night.

Efren is one of the greatest to play the game and few will argue this. However if you are an entry level player wanting to learn the game, watching Efren run out is not going to teach you much about the game "most " play. Few have or will play at that level!

If you want to learn more about the basics and moves of the game, study Gabel Owne, aor even the young Sylver Ochoa. These two aren't the run out artists of an Efren Scott

, or Cliff, but they rarely make big mistakes and each shot has more of the basics and strategy of the game!

JMO!!

I gotta tell you, that promo for the "Power One Pocket w/ Scott Frost" DVD I've seen on the streams makes me want to play 1P - and I don't play 1P. heh. Can't wait for it to come out though, it's on the list already. :)

Don't you guys realize that there are huge fines and even jail terms for copyright infringement that amounts to thousands for each infraction? Guy caught selling 6 versions, for example, in any form brings about a fine of around $15,000 and possible or maybe even probable jail time. Laws are very strict re protection of copyrights. If in doubt as to what I've written here, just check with legal professionals or maybe just google the subject. I'd imagine just the steering of others to an individual wanting to buy would make one an accomplice at the least. I've had proof on two of the four known individuals breaking copyright laws on my books and just let them go but I'll not continue letting others make a sucker out of me for they are mistaking my kindness for weakness!!!

copyright infringment

are you willing to get a book? It's winning one pocket by eddie robin. Rare book though so it's expensive. However 1 pocket moves and strategies (same author) is available as a PDF file you can print out or just read on the PC. Send me a message.

For DVDs I like stuff by Grady Mathews:
http://www.amazon.com/Finer-Points-Pocket-Grady-Mathews/dp/B00104CQ98

There are other ones recommended below. I don't know if this is The One DVD I would recommend as I'm not a super 1 pocket player. But his stuff gave me a basic understanding.

You must be the guy sending those p.m.s regarding illegal P.D.S. files.
They are illegal if not authorized by Eddie Robin. You really can go to jail for such things.

oh gawd!

i don't want anyone busted! i guess i should have said 'legal-to-purchase' dvds, sorryl

what i love about the efren one-pocket videos i've seen is not that he can run so many shots in a row. my longest run is probably like three?

but when he is in some terrible, horrible trap -- there is no way out no matter what? then -- and i have to rerun the videos several times to figure out how he did it -- suddenly the cue ball is just almost in the other guy's pocket and several other balls are in front of efren's.

now, probably this sounds simplistic? but what i'm trying to learn is this one lesson? it seems to me that efren looks at the whole table and figures out where is the single best place to put the cue ball?

other good things with other balls seem to happen, but where the cue ball ends up continues to amaze me. i think 'joey a' calls it 'controlling whitey' (the cue ball is white, right?)

in any case, thanks for the advise on dvd's and books!

Well luckily the person never sent me a message, so I never passed any suggestions to them about how to find the PDF file. I don't have it. Didn't actually realize it was illegal.

I thought when guys privately resold Eddie's book (e.g. on Ebay) that Eddie didn't see a dime. So I suggested the PDF thinking that if it's out of print, and Eddie's not getting paid for the resale... no harm no foul. Obviously eddie doesn't see it that way, and after researching a little it looks like eddie himself is still selling the book via ebay.

I don't want to cut into eddie's profits or risk going to jail, so I'll edit my post and remove the suggestion to get Eddie's book. Sorry to have caused any trouble.

If you're talking about matches I would say Frost/Reyes would be the video to get, although I have yet to see it.
If you're speaking of instructional dvd's then let me suggest Willie Jopling's (Bill Marshall) two. They were copied from old vhs tapes, but contain a wealth of infromation, and the late Mr. Marshall is a true southern gentleman.

Sorry? There is no such thing as LEGAL DVDs of any of my work!!! I've got several new titles hanging fire for years and am still trying to get back into business; illegal copies of my work would prove devastating to such attempts. To be perfectly clear, nobody has ever been granted permission to copy, photograph, etc. etc. etc. I'm the sole owner of the three books I've previously published. Hard to believe you have been sending people to buy illegal merchandise RIGHT IN THE OPEN on AZbilliards and nobody did a thing about it! How long has this been going on? Hope ya got deep pockets! Whose gonna provide me with data on this guy and be well rewarded when I'll wind up with all I'll need to get back into bus?
