What the biggest spot you've given and still outran?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but oh well...

There wasn't anyone in my place to gamble with last night, so I had to talk the guy I was playing into doing it. I already know he doesn't gamble, but I just like playing for something, anything, when I play (keeps me interested). I knew I had to come strong with a proposition to get him to agree, so I offered and he accepted a 6-3 race and 4-1 on the money.
The guys probably about a 5 or so in APA, and by no means am I a pro or even shortstop speed, but I still outran it and won 6-1... I thought the spot was pretty fair, but I guess it still wasn't..

What's your biggest spot you've outran....?

:grin-square:... I played a guy even on my own money ONCE... I won but it was the most nerve racking 90 minutes of my life! never again I said! :grin-square:

I have given break, ball in hand and the four and out and won. Needless to say, my opponent was a rather unaccomplished player.

12-4...

When I was first learning one hole I gave up 12-4 to a guy at Jamie Farrel's place, corner pocket...I won two games and he quit.

He then offered to stake me in any matching up I did. Unfortunately, at the first hint of me matching up, Jamie ran across the room yelling he's got my end of it and that put the kaboots on any matching up...

And to illustrate how much different it is playing a really good player versus a lower player, I broke even playing Jamie at nineball and tenball, but he beat me at one hole, I just didn't know how to move at all, I was getting open shots and running out going for things I should have NEVER gone for when I beat the guy 12-4. But as I said I was just learning to play one hole at the time, I can move a little better now :)

I played a guy that I would either give him games on the wire races to 5 or the 8 or the 7 playing 9 ball.

I thought I will tell you what I will play you even and pay him 2X the money.

I beat him, but that is MUCH tougher to play than a ball spot.

In 9 ball I gave Pinky 3 shots to my one "for favors". She didn't outrun the nuts. :grin-square: The best bet of my life. There was no sharking involved. ;)

When I play my ten year old son he's got the breaks and I play opposite-handed (left) and let him call the pocket when I'm on the 8. I've only outran the nuts like that a few times I think. Definitely helping my lefty game, but he's improving quickly. We gotta come up with a new spot soon. :)

I survived my biggest mistake giving up a spot.

I was passing time playing the stakehorse for beers while his player was in action on the next table. I had been warned about him stalling but thought I had his speed clocked. So after I had won and consumed a few beers he suggests this is boring and it would be more interesting to play for $10 a game if I will spot him the 6 ball. Seemed like a fair game so I said ok. He won the flip and broke and ran six racks. I was soooooo pissed. Not about the money so much as I had been warned but still got hustled. It took about an hour and a half but I did get back to even(shooting lights out), then we quit. Afterwards I heard his player say to him, "I told you he was a player." While I was more of a shooter than a player it made me proud to think a player considered me a player too.

3 cushion race to 15. I gave him 12 on the wire and out ran them. He was a better than average pool player but never played billiards and said it was a very easy game. Johnnyt

"For favors" is a great bet. "Slave time" also works well. You can play for any amount of time, 15 min, 1/2 hour, or if you're feeling real cocky, an hour, sometimes you may even feel like dumping the set. :)

Let's hear from the lower echelon ... what's the biggest spot you've ever been offered and still weren't able to win? As Vincent once said, "I'll give you the break, the eight ... I'll give you the whole table."

I've been beat gambling pretty good money in one hole getting 13-5, 15-5, 9-3. I've been beat 5 pockets to a front playing back pocket 9 ball. I've been beat 2 fronts to a side playing back pocket 9 ball. 5 out and the breaks playing 9 ball.

I've lost thousands to prove to myself you can't play people WAY WAY WAY outside of your speed, no matter the weight;)

Best I think I've done is letting an apa 7(in 9b) play as a 4 and split sets. Gave a local B the breaks and 5-out after and split sets. The first player is a 6 in 8 and has no qualms asking for more weight. Playing a buck a rack, went from even money to 2:1 to 3:1 and he quit down $15. That's right, I'm a high roller.

HI I once spotted 100 points in Snooker he gave me 10 to one on the money. If i won i was getting $100.00 and if i lost i would give him $10.00. Lost on the Pink Ball.

Ask him to play another game and he said no he was sweating Bullets

The crazy thing about that is that some day, YOU will be the one getting the spot. You'll be pissed but proud at the same time...

I'm sorry, what's a spot? I don't know much about this game, maybe you could show me a few things? Wanna make it fun, like 20 a game?

I gave 3 to 1 on the money playing six ball. I thought I was stealing because I have ran 10 plus consecutive racks of six ball on the bar box. The guy seriously shit in 5 straight games. I was 15 games loser at 10 a game. I ran 4 he shits 2. I quit 20 games loser and will never do that again unless we call pockets.
