Hey guys-

I'm a newly registered user but have been hanging around watching and viewing.

Finally, I decide I had to register just to express some opinions on things I see that I feel are very wrong.

My question is this, If this is supposed to be a forum on cues and cue building, why do I often feel as if I'm back in high school? There seem to be many cliques and a few "cool" kids...I mean guys, that can do no wrong.

For instance, I see guys posting gorgeous cues, great design, great craftsmanship, no glue lines, great points, awsome clear...practically flawless. 500 people look at it and only 10 say anything. Meanwhile, one of these big name guys post some "rent cue" and everyone goes wild over it...what's the deal??

cliques everywhere, can't stand'em but can deal with'em.
Welcome to the neighborhood.

I wouldn't know, considering I spend most of my time here on the Main Forum and sometimes in the Non Pool Related Forum.

I've often wondered what those guys and gals talk about in the Wanted/For Sale forum, and the Cue Machinery, Cue Reviews, Cue Gallery, and the Ask the Cuemaker forums, but since I have absolutely no interest in spending too much money for fancy, collectible cues, I do not go to the mysterious other forums...

:D :D :D

I think the biggest problem is a lack of education. Many people on this and any Internet forum are nothing but Parrots. They voice an opinion based upon another opinion without any understanding or knowledge regarding the subject. I suspect this is partly Human Nature, because where ever you go there are leaders and followers. Some people are very happy to do nothing and take no responsibility except what they are told. I am retired US Army and I have seen a very large number of people like this during my Military Career. Now that is not to say these people are worthless, most are very skilled at a specific Job or task, however, they lack the ability to think independently

Then the next group of people are those who really have no idea what they are talking about, and make assumptions based upon their personal feeling. These people do have independent thought, but due their to lack of knowledge and education on the subject they are never taken seriously.

Then these forums especially this one, have a large number of people who are very well educated about the subjects, however, most do not really want to share information. To many people information is power, the power to buy low and sell high, which equates to what Business is all about.

As you said you have been lurking for sometime, and now you are ready to join in. Well all I can say is speak intelligently, about what you can, and listen when you don't have anything to add. By your post I can already see that you are not a follower, so have fun, because their is not a better place to learn than this forum.

Welcome aboard, and have a great night!!!!;)

I think the reason why there are little groups is because some people know and support others on here.I dont have a group although i have become friendly with some locals here in AZ who i see outside of the forum which is cool.I do agree with Manwon on the parrot thing,it seems like certain people have a following and people who support them regardless if they are 100% wrong. The forum is like Desperate Housewives but for guys, lots of drama and action,we need our fix i guess of flame threads and whatnot.I have always walked my own path and have never been a follower, usually a loner but i will be a friend to anyone who is decent human being. As for the school thing,i just prefer to be cool with everyone and go hang with this group and that group as i please. :D

Welcome to you

Welcome to the WORLD and Welcome to the forum.....These so called cliques you refer to are people that have gotten to know each other after many months or years of posting on AZ..Now that you are officially posting over a time frame you too will make friends with people that have similiar ideas and hobbies as yourself...Enjoy the forum you will learn alot....See ya on AZ...:)

As has already been pointed out to you, you posted to the main forum, not a forum related to cue making, buying or selling.

But you said you registered "just to express some opinions on things I see that I feel are very wrong."

That is a rather negative attitude. There is a great deal "right" posted on these forums.

Regarding your view that some posters are complimentary about cues you think are junk...A) Not "everyone goes wild" as you stated B) some are just being polite and C) your opinion is not necessarily correct in every instance as I am sure you would agree.

But I have to say that I find it a little odd that you express such a low opinion about the AZ community and its members after having lurked for some time and yet felt the need to register only to begin your post history here with some rather insulting generalizations.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinions and you will find a wide range of them here so you will have plenty to do as you carry out your mission of telling us all what's wrong.

Regards,
Jim

Tables ? There are TABLES ? Oy-Vey !

Doug
( there are NO tables over here on the Group W bench ) dammit !

What can you do? That's life. I posted something that put Keith Mcready in a negative light and I was barbecued by the masses. I asked a question to the people that frequent this place about what are some things they'd like to hear from famous cue makers and I heard crickets chirping. Not much you can do except go with the flow.

As for cues, I personally love looking at cues and I compliment the ones I like. Others I say nothing because they just don't interest me.

Any time you have a "community" like this there are going to be groups of people that stay around each others posts. No big deal.
