Who makes the best plane jane cues

Ariel carmeli is making a TAD copy that hits like a monster. You can see them on westerncue.com. I've hit a lot of $3000 cues that don't compare, hit wise.

nope thats not gonna fly....

i hear viking is the best.

keep buying up those cues people, even though you're not going to actually play with them!

in all seriousness, collectors have driven up the prices and lowered negotiation power and customer service for us people who just plain want to buy a nice playing cue. note: this is not directed at anyone in particular.

Don't howl on the collectors, some of the cue makers would not even be in business without them. I see where your coming from, but great cue makers spend A-TON of money on materials not to mention the time to build a cue, or the fact that some of these guys have been aging wood 15-20+ years. If cues were top dollar at 400bucks (which is about the standard max give or take for common folk in the leagues) then I'm sure you would throw cue making back into the stone age. It just like anything else you got the best and most unaffordable (because they build them that well) and you got the more economical and you got the trash. It's like someone crying that they can't afford a ferrari because the rich people don't mind paying hundreds of thousands for them while the normals are stuck in geo metros.

Secondly, this is a plain jane discussion...why do I see references to sneaky petes? Plain Jane=plain a** cue no POINTS. It might have nice ringwork, hell maybe even a stacked leather wrap but they sure don't have points. So a completely different stye of cue (changes the hit) does not belong in this discussion.

May the pool gods help us all,
G.G.

Tad Kohara.

No questions asked.

Did you want a plane jane cue because it was cheaper, or just so you don't want other people to think you have a nice playing cue?

Some of these plane jane cues beinging recommended are going to be pricey.
Any top cue maker can make a place jane for you if you ask for it. Then it just goes back to who makes a better playing cue, and that has always been a long topic.

The Best Tad for me

absolutely beautimus!
I love your Harvey Martin Tad.
I had one once and let it get away.
Tom Wirth still has it and has never touched another cue since he got the Tad from meRight after he got it he won Strawberry's hustler's tournament beating Jose Parika, Steve Mizerak, Grady etc. to win the one pocket title. ,Bob

Here is my AE, looks somewhat plain Jane and plays pretty good.

I'm not sure what cue this lady has, but it's a lucky cue. I'd like to help her improve her grip and stroke, her stance looks good though:wink:

Hey man is there any way that you can add a video for us to HEAR the cues in the build off as well? I would love to hear each one and have an opinion for simply listening as well. Before you post the results, of course,

I'm not a big believer in "best" but of the non pointed cues I have owned these are my favorite:

South West Satin

Sugartree

Bluegrass

IMO, a proper plain jane is all about showcasing the wood over the cuemakers ability to do amazing things with their equipment, etc.

So, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE WOOD!
