Jennie,
Just shake his hand. If you kiss him, he's liable to write another book!:D
(Remember the title of his last book..."Bet High & Kiss Low"???)
:D :D :D

I love Grady tons. Just not like Randi does!

I believe that Randi is in the process of having ALL the book covers re-printed in REVERSE order.

I think the title of this thread should be changed to "Who You Would Like to See Build It!", because it doesn't exist.

What needs to happen first is a really good, creative, and financially stable business plan.

It most likely cannot be based on sponsorship, as we have seen with the failure of the IPT to attract them. KT did a first class job in the production (the best we have ever seen) and still wasn't able to get the necessary sponsors to pony up.

Someone needs to think out of the box and figure a win-win plan for everyone from the social and league players to the pros. Why the social and league players you may ask? I think they are the "financial base" that need to be tapped into to support and build a truely stable tour.

If a pro organization could exist independent of sponsorship, build a reputable image, and build a following of players and fans, I think sponsorship would soon follow. Currently there is little value of pool as a product.

Opinions welcome!

Anybody else in, or am I alone here?

I guess I am in this fight by myself.

The people exist.
The passion exists.
The money exists.

We have the experience.
We have the motivation.
We have ideas that will work.

Just like taking a tough shot, we need to stay focused, stay down and follow through until the ball drops in the pocket.

Off the top of my head the names that jump out are: Greg Sullivan, Mike Janis, Mike Zuglan, Joe Tucker, Mark Griffin, Grady, Jay, Eric/Fatboy (either and/or :D ), Blackjack. Who else has pool in their blood, a business background, has tournament running background... oh!! Scott The Shot... who else?????????????

Blackjack, let's hear some of your ideas. How would you do it?
Give me a great plan and I will support it.

..until then, I will just stay hopeful and optimistic.

I do have a plan, and I will not post it on an internet forum. lol

If you want to discuss it, feel free to call me mon-fri

I am in-

Like others, I dream of the day "we" have a tour where professional players can actually make enought to support themselves. I think there is a lot of talent to make something like this happen. But there needs to be a driver of this bus. There has to be someone in charge. This is not going to start off 'big' - but can grow into something substantial that can make a difference.

Blackjack has mentioned in the past about a plan. I know he is sincere - and think it probably has merit. Like him and others, I also have a plan. I have discussed it with several industry people and we feel it can be somewhat successful.

I am not ready to go "public" but will discuss my concept with those that I feel are sincere and in it for the right reasons.

All of the people mentioned in this post are capable people. But there cannot be too many Chiefs and not enought Indians. I also agree that the politics cannot be tolerated.

Anyone who thinks they might be interested in helping this get going can feel free to contact me. Obviously, I will be a the BCAPL National 8-ball event at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas (May 9-17, 2008). Please look me up if you are there. If not, e-mail me at markg@playbca.com or call me on my cell 812-987-1461.

This is the busiest time of the year for me - but starting in June, we will be putting the finishing touches on our plan. It should become 'public' around August? I can tell you this much - I cannot do it without a lot of help from the industry!

As always, your comments are welcome and appreciated-

if you build it...

will they come?

this is the really important question. i'm sure that blackjack and mark griffin all have their plans. i'm sure they are great plans. but instead of asking who will run a tour, better to ask "who will watch it"?

without fans there is no serious sponsorships. no sponsorships, no tour.

i'm not trying to be a naysayer here guys. i love the game. i dont play all that well, but i love the game. but when you come right down to it unless youre playing or sweating pool is boring to watch over a long period.

i was at the turingstone 8. great late evening match up. johnny archer v jose parica. well it was safe after safe after safe. i realized i was watching an awesome display of pool talent and knowledge, moreso than watching one of them throw down a six pack. but i gotta tell you after a while it was as boring as hell, and i love the game. i play with guys who love playing the game as much as anyone, but dont follow the sport at all and would never even bother going to a tournament.

so the most important thing i think is making the game appeal to the public. no tour will ever be successful, no matter who is running it, until it has mass appeal. and before anyone says you need a tour before the game will appeal to the public, thats the cart before the horse. no fans=no sponsors=no tour.

so i hope that everyone's secret plans for a true professional tour can address this huge concern. make pool interesting for even non pool players.

i REALLY hope you do

I don't think pool will ever be exciting for those who don't play. In order to enjoy pool a person has to be able to recognize great cue ball action and all most folks see is the ball going in the hole.. or not. Most have no idea of the strategy involved on the skill necessary to control whitey.

Just as a comment here; I don't think safety play is boring. On the contrary, I see it as fascinating.

I travel, pay to get into the audience if necessary and pay hotel bills to see the pros play and I do so without qualms. I think there are many others who will do the same. I'm not bragging.. just pointing out that there are fans who will go to great lengths to watch Buddy, Earl, Nick, Shane, Adam Behnke, and many others who can PLAY.

my point exactly JimS. if pool doesnt have an appeal to the general public, non-players if you will, i dont see how we will ever have a true professional tour that the players cant actually make a living from.

generally i love watching a good safety battle as much as a runout, but at 11pm after watching matches from 10am, a safety battle on every ball in every game was just a little to much even for me. and believe me even though this was day 3 of or 4 day tourny, there werent many fans left at all.
