Why do people from Ohio think Ohio is the epicenter of Pool?

Maybe not
How about George Rood
Joey Spaeth
Gary Spaeth
Donny Anderson
Kenny the Truck Driver
Troy Frank
some kid by the name of Cory Deuel............
Lawman888
ADD: Jr Gay (the Indian), Steve "the Mechanic" McAnnish, Ralf Carnes, Dee
Adkins, Chris Szuter and Jason Miller....

The Ohio State Open, Shamrock Shootout, The Akron Open and the Glass City Open not to mention Fiddlestix barbox tournaments (Canton/Chris Szuter) and the Viking Cue tour (Mike Janis)

In the 80's and the early 90's Ohio was the place to be for pool. It was a gateway to the east and west. Sadly, It dwindled to a mute point around the mid 90's and its still that way today, just like alot of places around the country....when we were young.....
fixed it for ya:grin-square:

i ain't no dufus, are I?

Where did you get this impression?

Ther are something like 11 million people who live in Ohio.

Exactly how many of them have you heard express this opinion?
Perhaps it is you who is the dufus.

You could make a case for Ohio being very high in the rankings for
Bank Pool.

Hi pdq;

I am one of those guys who thinks Ohioans hve made tremendous contributions to our sport. Amazingly so.

My op was a tongue in cheek attempt to draw out some of our az members thoughts on why they feel Ohio's sons and daughters have made, arguably, more contributions to pool, per capita, than any other state.

So you see, I was actually honoring Ohio with this thread.

Peace brother.

Best,

How about George Rood
Joey Spaeth

Donny Anderson
RON KOLLMAN , that owned hilltop billiards, now closed, had a great picture on the wall of donny anderson, he must have been in his mid twentys

Kenny the Truck Driver

KENNY ABNEY(SPLCHK)

Never heard the OP's claim from Ohioans, but here's a tidbit for ya;

The J.M. Brunswick Manufacturing Company opened for business on September 15, 1845, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Then, as stated, Mosconi ran and ran and ran. End thread, again, lol.

"Thank you for calling the Ohio Suicide Hotline, can we help you?"

Yes, I'm thinking of committing suicide.

"Sir, that is horrible - how long have you felt this way?"

My job moved me here about a year ago....I became a basketball fan, but then Lebron left and it's all been downhill from there.

"Yes sir, I know, it hit us all really hard"

I mean, winter is back, it's crazy cold

"Yes sir, I know"

And the women here.....I mean, thank God for winter and everyone covering up.....I've been considering men..

"Yes sir, I know"

I don't know if I can take it any longer.....I need to exit this cruel, evil world.

"Do you play pool?"

Well, a little, but not much, why?

"Ohio is the epicenter for pool.....you get to get out of the cold, enjoy a great game, and if you drink enough, the men and women start to look better, I promise"

Sounds great.....how did it become the 'epicenter'?

"We just tell everybody that....I don't even know what it means, but it sounds important and it makes us feel better"

Got it......I'll start practicing today.....and how do you spell epicenter???

Well, in that case...

A few random points - New Jersey has also been a big contributor, esp.
in the days of Straight Pool.

Per Capita - Kentucky<pop aprox 4.5 Million> merits consideration,
esp in Bank Pool.

Specific players - as mentioned before, but well worth mentioning again,
George Rood, perhaps the best all round player ever from Ohio,
or anywhere. And Clem Metz Top of the top One Pocket players
of the 50s and 60s and said to be second only to Fddie Taylor in Bank.

I lived in Minneapolis for a while and I think that Minnesota is the strongest pool state. Just open the BCA champions list over the last 15 years. Half of them are from MN. Not only are there a lot of champions...there are a whole lot of B or above player. Its pretty impressive.

People from Ohio have more heart, which is why the state is shaped like a heart.

Hub of the Universe

Sure there's been a couple of good players from there but......

Okay, make your case.

Best,
Brian kc

It doesn't seem to matter, (interpreted either way), where you visit, you're going to find folks from Ohio, usually a lot of them. This has led me to believe that Ohio is actually the hub of the universe. As irrefutable proof, I offer up the fact that all known objects in the cosmos are currently speeding AWAY from Ohio, (probably the snow), nuff said?

Ohio Epicenter

Because it is , we get all the best from West Virginia and Kentucky all of our own and 90% of the rest of the people who used to go broke on their way to Michigan.

Ohio is the 7 largest state in population plus it borders Penn, Illinois and Michigan and those rank 5, 6, and 8.
[.

Ummm, "TheBook", I don't believe Ohio shares a border or anything else with Illinois. Obviously "The Book" your reading was not written by Rand McNally !! :)
