Why STILL All The Venom For Bill Stroud?

Crazy people

He didn't ruin a legacy his cues are still highly sought after!
And he is still a genius when it comes to CNC programming.
I don't know a damn thing about this silly "contest" and I do
not care really, sounds pretty elementary to get in a pissing
match over a cue contest. But I do know he has a lot of fine
cues out there worth a lot of money. And I hear he knows
how to play. I like that in a cue maker. Like Jeff Olney he
knows how to play too. A good cue maker should be able to
kick your ass on the felt. No matter what is said on these
forums his cues will command good money on eBay ;)
 
So is what he did right in your book?

A few facts about this "silly contest"

Bill announced the design the cue of your dreams to this forum

Winner was to have his design built by Bill for him.

Contest was won by a member here then Bill just disappeared.

Bill sold his equipment and started to play pool full time.

To date no explanation given by Bill.

I am sure other forum members that followed this closely can correct anything I am wrong about.

If you had won the contest how would you feel?

One of the reasons we, as a culture, record information for future generations is to hopefully not repeat the same error. Your answer seems so flippant. Hope you feel the same way when YOU get screwed! Have a nice day.

I spoke to Bill about this one time and was disappointed in his response to me. Basically he blew it off like no big deal. That kind of attitude is beyond me and I told him that it would affect his reputation but he didn't seem to care. Like I said it was a disappointing conversation.

Probably because there are still people who didn't hear about what he did.

You know all those things people say they wouldn't wish on their worst enemy? Those things should happen to Bill Stroud.

It's about being a man of your word. Of course in the world of pool where hustling your mom for a nickel is the standard, why should we expect some to care???

This 'contest gone bad' may leave a lot of AZers thinking Bill is an epic P.O.S. From what I've heard, he always was a bit of an ass-hole. An egomaniac.

But at the end of the day, his contribution to cuemaking pre-retirement can't be ignored or denied. And the value of his cues won't be affected by this in the least. In the longrun, No one will care. Everyone will move on. I suggest you do the same.

ain't gonna happen. I will never move on, I will do everything in my power to assist in ensuring that his actions tarnish his reputation.

I care about society and improving it and any dishonorable actions should be repeated inexorably for time immemorial...

The really funny thing are these threads asking people to let it go actually just reminds people of the douche baggery and brings it right back to the fore front..

Also, anyone who thinks this won't affect the secondary market of his cues is fooling themselves. It already has. I know people who have had trouble selling his cues already...

I agree with this statement...if something isn't made right, nothing has changed.
Stroud can still make it right.
 
IMO, what is worse than this matter are the dishonest cuemakers who took buyer's money and deposits and never delivered who are still out there.

Even if they were banned from this forum, I see them, or their cues on other forums.

For me, I have no desire to own a cue that came from a tarnished cuemaker.

I'd buy any radial pin ivory collar cue for 1/2 off just to teach him a lesson. No offense but you sound like your 5 years old. Let it go.
