Yup, I have supported the USGA in the past, so why not a poll organization. (pun)

Make mine a hell no! What's with you Obamites and the idea that throwing money at anything, and everything is somehow going to fix any problems that may, or may not, need fixing in the first place. People have been playing pool now, in one form or another, for the past several hundred years and I suspect they will continue playing, with or without, a trust fund, pool czar, billiard lock box, or whatever sillyass something or other that someone feels the people want or need.

Let me see if I understand the question. You are asking me for $10.00 to support POOL! What do I get in RETURN for MY INVESTMENT?

Normally people make INVESTMENTS with an expection of a RETURN on the INVESTMENT!

Now that's telling them. :)

As for me, I already gave $10 and more by playing in leagues and attending the Super Billiards Expo, buying DVD's and new pool cues and playing pool in pool rooms. Yeah, I got that $10 covered along time ago and it's still only March.

I invest WA-A-A-A-Y more than $10 a year to support POOL. I frequent and play at poolhalls, I purchase MUCHO pool equipment, I play in leagues, and I give equipment away to aspiring young men who are just getting started in the game. Not to mention that I subscribe to two billiard rags. So, I voted yes.

Now, if the intent of your question was to see if I would support a pro tour with a $10 investment (although the word DONATION would actually be a better choice of words), then the answer would be a resounding NO!!!

My answer.....No

Am tired of working to donate to everyone that chose not to work.

Let the pros donate $10. They are the ones making a living from it. Kind of like union dues.

Well you can put me down as a ?. "To promote Pool" is a little to generic for me. Give me some specifics on who, what, where and why.

Yes, I think....

It depends on what you mean. I would pay if it meant I/we could watch them play in more and better tournaments. The point of professional sports is for entertainment purposes, otherwise it's just another league match. I have no problem spending money on pool if they are fulfilling that purpose.

I feel they should get paid well, because ultimately they are entertainers just like actors and musicians.

here is a $10 investment I'd make

I still don't know what you have in mind, but I'd gladly let them add $10 a month to my cable bill for a sports channel dedicated to all cue sports.

The question is a little vague so I can't answer without more info.

I've been in the tattoo business for about twenty years. Every so often someone comes in to the shop asking for a donation for some benefit. I've never hesitated. The answer is always yes. Whether I donate art or gift certificates, I always have given something.
Over the last few years it seems like these requests are on the rise. Last winter I was giving away more than I was bringing in. That was a bad sign and I finally had to start saying no.

I don't say no to everything but I've had to learn to be very selective. If things continued on that path, I would be out of business and no one would be getting shit.

Tell us more about what you're getting at.

Nice idea Dan. I also would pay 10 bucks for pool tv.

Really I just love watching good matchups so I would pay 10 bucks to watch pool in like 100 different ways...

- to see a stream of a tournament with top players
- to get a download for edited video of it
- to get a very basic cheap DVD (even if it's in a paper sleeve) of a huge straight pool run or tournament finals or whatever.

I'd also pay 10 bucks to make a match happen that otherwise might not. I dunno how this works legally but if we could get a ton of people to go in on backing it... I don't even care if I get a percentage back. If a thousand guys can put up 10 bucks to get some matchup for 10k, winner takes all... that'd be worth it to me as long as I get to watch it somehow. I want something weird... shane vs. ralf 8 ball maybe... or Thorsten vs. JS race to 500.

Simple poll simple answer:

yes

no

First of all it is not a simple poll, there are many factors that must be considered and the first one that comes to my mind is who would controls this operation?

In my opinion their are few if any people currently promoting this sport that I would trust to properly adminster and operate the programs this money could generate.

I think finding some one to control the operation who is beyond repute and fully capable would be much more difficult than getting people too donate $10.

First of all to those of you that voted, so far, thank you for taking part. Out of seventy-five voters, 89.33 % of you are in favor of paying $10 dollars a year for the promotion of the games of Pool, Billiards and Snooker.

That's a very high percentage. So it's obvious there is a demand for more exposure of these games.

Your question to me is, "How can this be done? And even more of a question is, how do we know we can trust you or anyone else for that matter?"

They are great questions. And they deserve an answer.

Some of the posters have already come up with some good suggestions.

More streaming is a great idea. Challenge matches is also a great way to go. How about we have a King of The Hill, challenge match, once a month, and the vewiers get to vote on who they want to play the next month. I'd also like to add more money to some of the more established tournaments, such as, Turning Stone, The Derby City Classic, The Reno Open, and of course The U.S. Open. Just to name a few. Probably double if not triple the amounts of monies added to these events.

This isn't a political way of bailing out the game. It's a fiscal idea that's highly feasible and affordable to each and every one of us. Like a lot of you, I'm paying a reasonable amount of money to play on various tours and different leagues and I don't begrudge these people anything I pay them. I just think we need to invest more into the promotion of the game and collectively it's a lot more affordable. I'm not trying to put people out of business. I'm trying to increase their business by bringing more people into the game.

I'm also going after room owners, cue makers, and anyone else making a living off of the game. I don't think it's outrageous to ask a room owner to pay five dollars per table in their room per year to help promote more people coming to their rooms. Or ask a cue maker to donate two dollars for each cue they sell over the course of a year. If we're bringing in more players they are going to sell more cues.

To the people that aren't interested in donating the money, I completely understand. Based on the things that have happened in the past in this game. I probably wouldn't trust me either or believe this was possible.

I just started the poll because I had to start somewhere. It may possibly never happen. But then again, it might.

I know I got the interest of a few of you posters. I'm also not crazy enough to think I could do this myself. I'll need a lot of help. I have some people in mind that I think are some of the most trusted people in the business and I want to talk to them about some of the ideas.

Thanks for the interest. If we need to make decisions on what and where to spend the money, we could always do what I did. Start a poll on AZ and let the people decide where the money is spent.

That's all I have for now. Thanks for listening.
