Wow Kind of Suprised to See This !!

I have to say as a governing body of women's pool I am kind of surprised to see this in a press release.

"Of course, the WPBA organization is not so foolish to think that the top women play at a level comparable to the top men, but the WPBA takes pride in the fact that its top players have dared to mix it up with the top men, and while doing so, have enjoyed some scattered successes. In point of fact, like the majority of men players, the ladies of the WPBA are awed by the skill of the top men, feel honored when afforded the opportunity to compete against them, and understand that doing so allows them to grow as players. "

Ok so the WPBA doesnt think its players play as well as the men?

Interesting to me lets hear what you think.

What a crappy press release. It makes it sound like the women are playing in a pro/am with the women being the amateurs.

I hope a female wins the open this year, and puts an end to these "women can't compete with men" threads!

Doesn't this imply that anyone who thinks that women play at a level comparable to to the top men is being foolish? Not cool.

My personal opinion, which I'm sure nobody could give a hoot about, is that any top end woman player could beat a top end male player on "any given Sunday". I do not think the depth of the field is near equal, as the 20th ranked male player is most likely much better than the 20th ranked female player, but I would never discount female players to the extent that this press release did.

I would love to see the final of the Open come down to a male vs. female match! Reminds me of an old tennis match, hehe.

The above is a very condescending press release and I have to wonder who wrote it. I just don't see where making such remarks serves any purpose other than to perpetuate the theory that women can't or shouldn't be playing against the men. If I was one of the top women players, I wouldn't be too happy to read this tripe.

You know the WPBA Tour had decent payouts when Allision Fisher first arrived , seemed like they averaged about 20,000 and event and remained that way for years .

This had to be the draw for Allison , don't think they had a women's pro snooker tour . I think the top players when Allison got here were Loree John Jones, Robin Bell and Ewa .

Allison ran over the tour . Until recently the women's tour was healthy and i don't remember any men being invited to participate . What is being perpetuated is a double standard , they want to share in the money of men's events but not men in theirs .

Perhaps an open tour available to all is the solution . Whose tour would a Dr. Renee Richards type play on , the men's or women's ?

I only read page 1.

ANY tournament that excludes a whole gender can not say the winner is the best or even the best on that day. They can only say they were the best they let play on that day. I hope a lot of guys get beat by the ladies.

100 % agree - some guys *about the Top 10 Players*...... what about the rest of the couple of guys who are not *absolutley* big-tournament-winners?............all are talking about that there would be just a few females who where able to......but i am 100 % sure that *those few* ladies could and would kick some men out of a tournament.
If an *average pro* would loose against a Reyes, an Earl, an Archer, a Souquet etc, etc. noone would talk about it- but if a Ouschan, a Lee, Corr or whoever would lose against them *most experts* would say: *i knew it before....*

Hope was able to show up what i meant,

The player base is huge for men, small for women (certainly by comparison).

I can name probably a dozen players in the Springfield, MO area that are at least good shortstops - not a single female player there could make that list.

But the statement quoted is far too pointed in telling it like it is - we simply can't have that in 2010. :D

For your information... CueSports International (CSI) production - US Open 10 Ball has invited top 10 WPBA players in January 2010 and dozen or so women are playing in it...

every once in a while

There comes a post that just makes me laugh so hard .I guess it just hit me
the right way .:D

This was in reference to the post that Jay replied to about BOOBS
why this did not work when I hit quote I do not know....

It should be interesting to see how many of the women make it into the money depriving some men of their expectation of defraying their cost/investment.

For some, it is an opportunity to match up with the best or move up if they don't.

This is more pseudo nonsense as well. Sorry Ben, you don't have a clue.

You know, Jay, he makes as much sense as most of the other reasons given why women can't compete against the men.

This is what I'm hearing:

And why exactly does the inclination to gamble make one a better player? Does it make you "aim" better, or "stroke" better? It might ratchet up the pressure you put on yourself, but does it make you a better player?

I thought the idea of a tournament was to see who was the better player, at least on that particular day. I don't see where betting on yourself should affect that.

(I don't have any anti-gambling bias. I'm simply amazed by the fascination of gambling and pool, and how it is constantly linked to ability. And how folks keep wishing for pool to become more mainstream, all the while extoling the virtues of making a "score". A very complex philosphical conflict.)

IMHO, perhaps the lack of inclination to "bet" might just prove that the ladies have a better head on their shoulders. And that they are more interested in playing the game of pool, rather than the game of getting over on someone.

LOL...are you serious...gambling makes you a better player...haha...

(this is my impersonation of Chris Bartrum responding to a post)

I think gambling makes some players better players and some worse players. JL is one that plays better gambling than in tournaments IMO. Before all the instuction came out in books & DVD's, Internet, and lessons from players and instuctors gambling made most better faster, now not so much. Johnnyt

lemonade

i agree that this press release seems off the mark.

but is it feasible that someone is 'on the lemon?' (is that how you say it?)

i mean girls -- rightly or wrongly -- have been letting boys think they are smart for generations!

it's culturally ingrained for us to be gracious, to try to build consensus, to smile while we concentrate on winning the war between the sexes.

so, could it be remotely possible that the 'i am so lucky to be in the same room with boys' press release reads a bit like the work of niccolo di bernardo dei machiavelli?

but probably the presser (as they shorthand it in d. c.) was just kind of thoughtless, rather than way clever.

I have to say I just think its very blunt and in all honesty it should have read something like "the women of the WPBA are geared up and ready for a tough fight with the men as they enter the uncharted waters of Barry Behrman's US Open nine ball championships. The women are both honored and excited to be included in such an auspicious event that has a history of success."

EXACTLY!

Reminiscent of when the young golf superstar, Annika Sorenstam, played a men's PGA event and Vijay Singh went berserko.

Everybody, synchronize your watches; it's 2010.

Best,

Vijay's comments were right on point and were taklen completely out of content by media whores.

This situation is completely different.

Paraphrasing a recent over-hyped PC situation, <name your sensitive issue> exists. Let's save our energy on those times when it needs to be examined.

This ain't one of them.

I have so much to say...but my momma always told me if you have nothing nice to say, then keep your freaking mouth shut.

For now...I think I need some Pepto to make this nausea go away.

And actually...my mother did read this...and she has nothing nice to say either. But I think she would enjoy roasting whoever wrote this particular press release.
