It's interesting,
I might learn a new pattern,
It's a good way to see if my simulation physics can match reality.

They are nice shots to know, its a tough position but the analysis tool shows that they are really sensitive to pace and 'purity' of the spin (i.e. very little margin for error)

In my area I’d say most people have hard cases, either the old traditional ones or the newer models (like say a JB Rugged or it’s imitators). But many people also have the soft cases.

I actually don’t think the issue of cue protection in a soft case is as a big of an issue (so long as the cues aren’t jostling around) for day to day use. If you’re just taking your cues from home to the car to the pool hall and back, it’s hard to imagine great danger to the cues. The cheaper cost, lighter weight and in some cases greater storage are worth the trade off for many. Travel is a whole other kettle of fish.

To me my biggest pet peeve with the soft cases is that most of them don’t stand up properly when empty, so everyone keeps leaving them on the tables when I want to put my food and drink.

I’ve been using butterfly cases for years because of how lite they are and my skinny shoulders don’t like the heavy cases. I’ve never had an issue leaning the case up against a wall. I keep one of the table cue holders so they don’t fall over. Sometimes at leagues people put their cues on an unused table next to us. If someone happens to need it we just clean them off. Not a big deal.

Honestly I don’t use expensive customs anymore. That stuff just doesn’t interest me anymore but In my days when I did I did use hard cases. Jack Justis was my favorite but never can I think of one time when I would have damaged it if it wouldn’t have been in a hard case but I’m pretty careful with my things 🤷

New here - looking for some info

I have 2 cues, one that I'd like to sell and one I'd like to get appraised. About 25 years ago, I picked up a Robinson cue used from a local pool hall, that is no longer in operation. Wound up getting a second shaft for it maybe 15 - 20 years ago. Simple figured maple with Ebony points and a linen wrap. As you can tell from the pictures of the Robinson, the one original shaft was well loved & used. The second was used lightly and kept in much cleaner condition than the original shaft.

My friend that I played pool with 20-30 years ago had parents that moved to Vegas and he placed an order for 2 different cues from South West. About 5 to 7 years later, his order came up and he got the cues a few months later. He wanted to check them both out before he sold that one he didn't want to me.

How can I get the cues appraised? I have no idea what a Robinson goes for these days and searches haven't turned much up. Some fancier ones were listed in eBay for $2500 - $3000, but those are more elaborate than the one I have. Not sure if there is someone in the SF Bay area that appraises cues. I know there is a listing section for selling cues here on AZBilliards, but not sure where the correct forum is to get info on appraisals. Want to get the SW cue into the home owners insurance, hence the desire for the appraisal.

Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

It’s a simple ball in hand foul on any league or tournament I’ve ever played. I’ve seen it many many many times. It’s not that unusual

Cue info help; Gracie Cortez cue from the Philippines from the 1980’s

I was told this cue was a Gracie Cortez from the 1980’s. It has Iv inlays, with pink Ivorywood, and .925 sterling silver rings. Iv joint, ferrel and butt cap. Apparently the cuemaker is from the Philippines. Any thoughts? Ty in advance

A restaurant or two around here used to wrap thin sliced bacon around a shrimp and grill it. They served it on a platter with some other items as a horse's do over. I always wanted a full platter of the shrimp and bacon just once, or thrice!

Occasionally I post a joke in this thread. Ain't on topic but I figure this thread gets about ten times the traffic the joke thread does.

The pictures make me think about my mom fussing when she noticed a Playboy magazine in my room when I had just started high school. She told me she didn't want me reading stuff like that. I told her I wasn't reading it, I was just looking at the pictures. She wasn't amused!

. You actually can shoot straight up. Dr Dave has a video where the CB is in the jaws of a pocket with the mesh pockets and you can actually shoot though the gaps in the mesh pocket and hit the underside of the CB.
