Interactive Pool Lessons Online

Many of you know I've been playing around with the idea of delivering pool lessons online for a long time. Allen Hopkins and I are setting up a booth at the expo called Pool Lessons Online (we're sharing a booth with The Action Report).

We're in the very initial stages of setting up a site for exactly that--- to deliver real-time, highly interactive lessons over the internet. I believe we'll allow any top player, instructor or gambler to deliver lessons through the site and set their own hourly rate.

The focus of the site will be moves, strategy, systems, and other education that will make you a better player. This definitely will not be a "how to hold a cue" site.

I know many people believe you can't teach anything pool related over the internet and that's simply not the case. Back in 2002, I was helping physicians in Philadelphia teach diabetic wound debridement lessons to doctors in the Belize jungle in real-time over the web. Suffice it to say, if we can teach a doctor how to heal a gaping wound on someone's foot or leg, teaching them how to escape a 1P break shouldn't be hard at all.

I'm doing this because I think there's a need out there and with the current economic climate, many probably can't invest the money to travel cross-country. My sincere hope is that these pros/instructors can supplement their existing income and never have to leave their house. If any of you wanted 1P/14.1/10B lessons from top pros and other legends of the game, you will soon be able to pick their brain to your heart's content while using the full multimedia capabilities of the internet.

Anyways, the site will be www.poollessonsonline.com

It's still being worked on, but you can click around regardless. Please click on PLEASE READ when in the body of the site (located top-right).

Maybe this won't fly - maybe it'll turn into something big for the pros/teachers. Either way, it'll be a fun little side project.

Make sure you stop by the booth to say hi.

One peice of advice if I may, Great idea, but have you considered having condensed sample videos available for free?

I know from dealing with the people over at freedrumlessons.com that it really helped out there sales of the main products to have smaller free versions available as well.

People tend to like to see what the quality is and whether or not it will actually work for them before buying.

just a thought

Sounds pretty cool Dave, I hope it goes over big for everyone involved. An advanced lesson on PPV from a top pro could work bigtime IMO. Johnnyt

Hey Joe, speak the words brotha and you can have your own section!

For those who want to check it out, John Schmidt will deliver a lesson on something during the expo. I'm going to limit the capacity to maybe 10 or so people because these lessons should only be small groups in order to keep it interactive. I'll try to get Hopkins to do something, but it might be tough because he's so busy running the show.

Fascinating concept Dave.
As a former player who started giving advanced one pocket lessons a short time back, I would be interested in looking at your Hi-tech system.
While I am extremely "low tech", I was looking at taking a computer course at a local CC, to upgrade my skills.

Thats a very impressive list of your accomplishments in the field of programmming thus far.
It sounds as if anyone could make this work, given your insight into pool, you'd be the guy.
Good luck with your venture and though I won't be at VF this year, I will stay in touch, and am very interested learning more about it.

Sounds good - would love to get you involved. Anyone can learn how to do this. I have the collaboration software down to the point where a doctor can do it.... and those guys are THE most computer illiterate people I've EVER met.

I have 4th graders in an inner-city Philadelphia charter school who use the tool for online tin whistle lessons. It's not something you can sit down and "just use"... but if you put in a little time, you'll be fine.

I'm working up a "quick-start" guide for the pros who want to deliver lessons. That will be done by the Expo. Will keep in touch, Dick. I'm def hitting you up for a 1-hole lesson if you come on board.

Good Luck !!!! and I hope that it all works out for the best.

Wonderful

This is a wonderful use of the internet. Education and ideas being shared, for a price of course. It is American ingenuity at it's best. Good luck with this and I'll be checking your product out! Sounds like fun.

Everyone WINS!

Great idea Dave, I've been wondering what you were up to, since you mentioned the booth a few weeks ago. I'll be sure to stop by and say hi.
Good Luck!

I think I would like to give it a try Dave especially if it's for a small audience. I would like to give a lesson to people who already know my aiming system (not trying to change the subject or hijack so don't ask) and show them how they can use it to help improve their position play, safeties and other aspects of the game, lots of benefits to it in 1pocket Dick.

Put together a nice powerpoint with cuetable diagrams, maybe a short video clip (sub-90 secs), and maybe a poll or two. You can also work in a live demo of your content. Try to keep your lesson organized in an outline so it flows well during your hour (or however long you want). I'll PM you my email address.

Interactive Pool lessons

What a great idea! I hope you make it fly as there are lots of pros out there with great infomation to share and without travel costs it would be an affordable option that many people couldn't pass up. Sounds like a no brainer to me. I told you that you were a smart guy and now you have to go show off!

What a great idea Dave. This is one of those things that make you stop and say "Why didn't I think of this before?" I'll see you at Valley Forge.
