Earl playing like the Earl of old

Just think how great it would be for Earl to win his 6th U.S. Open. I really, really hope he can pull this off.

If some other sportsmen do HALF of what Earl's done in their sport, they get nominated for an ESPY or at least get a nice write up in SI. It's high time Strickland gets his due.
And I hope he gets a very lucrative endorsement contract as well.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves....still a lot of 9 Ball still to be played!
In the mean time....Go Earl!!

I purchased plane tickets and had made plans to go to the U.S. Open on Thursday but my wife had some unexpected plans come up and I just can't go but I will be pulling for Earl to overcome the impossible one more time.

He better run the set off the lag if he runs into an Earl having a flashback. Earl at his absolute best was IMO the highest speed 9-ball this world has ever seen.

I couldn't agree more. I've seen him at his best when he'd just plow through champion after champion in a tourny (Varner, Sigel, Reyes, hall etc) they never had a chance, the scores would be like 11-5, 11-2, 11-3....it would look like there was nothing he couldn't do. He'd make the very difficult look absurdly easy. Sort of like what O'Sullivan does with snooker.

I have to agree. He played better than anybody ever... ask around they will tell you. And (they) are anyone that seen him play in his prime!!!!!

im thinking that Strickland Vs Moore in the qtr finals and Archer Vs Davenport daventport is plying from a flashback too :D then it will be Strickland Vs Archer in the finals Strickland gets 10-1 then Archer has a early 90's Flashback and runs the set to hill, dry on the break, then Earl runs the rest of the set out to win! cool ending huh?

Honestly, that would probably be the coolest sequence of events to ever transpire on the planet Earth, imo.

And I plan on being right there tableside taking crappy pictures in your behalf and absence Rick! And I'll post that up with my silly ass commentary. :) (and my buddy 420 will laugh at me as usual ;) )

That match - should it go down, will be perhaps the highest attended to date at the Open. He'll draw them in, like always. I'll be pulling hard for Earl the whole way.

If I were you, I wouldn't mention that you're "pulling hard" for Earl in a public forum. :D

J/k, of course. Post some updates for us whenever you can, and have an awesome time.

As much as.....

Id like to see him win, If he makes the finals and things start to roll against him he could very well could go sidways in 3 diff. directions, wich might just be a better show Im sure it would be in GRAND style...

But now that Ive met him, and have growen to like him like a old crazy one eyed dog, I'd have to say MOWEM DOWN Earl....

Earl just dominated Zion Avi 11-4....

He looked like the Earl of old. I think he might make it 6 us open titles...

Jaden

Agreed Jaden, Earl is freewheeling like it's 1988! I like his attitude at the table and his fist pumps at the end of his matches in a joking manner of course. I just hope he keeps his head in check so we can see him go deep :-)

Practice

I know Earl has been practicing EVERY day he really wants too do well this year, and from how he's playing he is doing pretty well so far. I think if he can dominate Martinez like he's been doing to everyone else there is gonna be no stopping him:grin-square:

You think Corteza is the 1st real test for Earl?? He needs to beat Rafael Martinez first.... You may not think it, but that dude can hit the balls real good too. A win over Daryl Peach isn't so easy you know, and it was 11 to 6 at that. Not saying Earl can't win, but he doesn't have to win against this guy.

I wouldn't mind seeing Earl win it for the 6th time but......

I would get more satisfaction from seeing hard-driving, Rafael Martinez catch a couple more gears and go on through the field with his self-composed style and determination.

I picked Rafael as a long shot after watching his first match Sunday night.

Go Rafael.......Go!!!!!....

could happen

Earl could do it. A friend of mine won a major competition a few years back. He was a several times world champion and hall of famer but hadn't won a big event in many years. His explanation, "I had a flashback to 1984!"

Nothing would please me better than for Earl to settle down and be able to focus on the table again. He is still a potential monster for years to come, not that most of us want to tackle him even on a bad day!

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!

He's playing R. Martinez on the TV table this evening...11:00 Pm Match!!

Earl just overpowered Zion Zvi. By the 8th game Earl was talking non stop. I dont think Zion is used to all the excitement that Earl seems to bring along with his game. It took Zion out of contention.
I would like to see Earl go all the way.

Incidently Earl was talking by the 8th game of his previous match also.
