NEWS FLASH!!!

Frost beats Reyes PLAYING EVEN! Yes, it has finally happened. Scott Frost beat Efren 5-3 in a big dollar One Pocket match a short time ago. Efren offered him 8-7 and he turned it down. I didn't get to see the match but I heard they both played good.

The King is dead, long live the new King! I guess it finally had to happen. Efren had a near 20 year reign on top of the One Pocket world. I'm sure he's not done by any means at age 55, but I think we will now see more players (Gabe, Alex, Schmidt?) willing to play him even.

Yep, it finally happened at 55 yrs. young! Are there any more money matches coming Jay? Busty, SVB, Alex etc..

How was the play?, I am sure it was exciting, hopefully there will be a vid available soon. Scott will be riding the high and hopefully snap off the tourney, he said there were 9 left, Daulton and Busty have losses too and Gabe is out. :)

You know I think I might be mixing the Efren Martinez match with the Efren Frost match. (long day of watching pool!) Efren sold out a few times in the Martinez match.

Scott did play well. He made a lot of high power banks at the end to get out of bad spots and run balls. The match was definitely offensive oriented. Most of the games could have gone either way it looked. This match really showed that with players of this level, it just takes one opening to run out.

Money matches galore. So many it is hard to keep up. Harry Platis played Jhendy tonight and lost 4K. Then he played Carl Bailey and they quit even. Monster John and Billy Incardona played (Billy got 8-7) and John won one set.

Jeanette stays in action. Played Brim Hat from Alabama 9-Ball and won, then played Ricky Byrd One Pocket and booked another winner. Now she's playing One Hole with Brim Hat. She's about five dimes ahead for the night, kind of a slow night for her.

Jon Hennessee is in action with John Morra on the bar box right now as well. Jon beat someone else (?) earlier. Shane also had action earlier with Chris Gentile this evening and lost. I missed that match. I went down to the casino and played some poker. Kind of a medicore game, and I got bored after a couple of hours. I think I just like sweating pool more.

Roy beat me for another $50 side betting. He owns me! We are supposed to play some One Hole tomorrow. It's probably the only chance I have with him. He always beats me side betting.

TY sir

Thanks Jay for taking the time to keep us up to date.GJ.

Someday I will get to go see for myself but until then keep it coming.

Awesome!

Thanks a lot for your non-stop reports. We appreciate it very much.
Greenies coming your way sir.

So......if Ricky Byrd and Jeannette Lee are in contention for the Louie Roberts and Jeanette beats him when they match up does she then move ahead? :-)

Mikey actually Moved down to Southern Oregon around Medford I think.Rumor had it that he made one trip to Portland to gamble but didn't do well.He is said to be working allot and playing little or not at all.I did see him and Linda at a casino tourney down there last summer.

I saw him in Medford when I went on a business trip with my wife and sister-in-law. He ended up playing (and winning) the barbox tournament they had on the Diamonds one of the nights I was there.

He seemed to be hitting them about 85-90% as well as I remember him hitting them back in the day, but I think I am a better player now than I was then (at least I am according to Clark Smith, lol), so that may be due to a skewed perception.

I had heard some players in the local area commenting how Mike "wasn't THAT good", and that they were commenting on how they had such and such and so and so BCA Grandmasters in the area, and when I talked to Mike later after the tourney, he told me it was BS. He said there were no other BCA Grandmasters in the area, and that there was no one in the area who had even a chance against him.

And I believe him. :D All that talk was prolly just a bunch of local B players who can't identify real talent. Mike was a dominant player back when I was in Washington, and he was winning tournaments over Horsfall, Dan Louie, etc...

I believe one of his main strengths was that he consistently played safe off balls on the head rail, and got behind balls near the foot rail. he had REALLY good control of speed off long multi-rail safes like this, from his background as a very good three cushion player.

Not having any strong competition in the Medford area may have hurt Mike's game just a little.

Be hard to believe any player would play effie 1 pocket even for lets say 20K, wonder how many backers would jump in this pond, me thinks ZERO.

What is significant is that Scott beat Efren in a REAL money match playing even. Something that hasn't happened in many, many years. Now at least one player will be playing Efren even One Hole in the future, also very significant, considering Efren has been spotting the world for a long, long time!

There are many conflicting reports on Efren vs Frost:

1. It was an exibiiton match, where 2 backers put up 5k each and flipped a coin to see which side they got. (source was thread on here)

2. It was even (source was Pat Fleming on PA system)
3. It was Efren giving 8-7 (source was thread on here)
4. It was a 1500 match (source was Pat Fleming on PA systme)
5. Was huge gambling amt of very high dollars (source onepocket.org thread)

I'm just listing the reports floating around. Does anyone know which is the truth?

I heard about 2 guys flipping to pick a horse and I believe that to be true, it was even, it was for $3000 in the middle among backers with much more bet on the rail, Scott said him and some friends emptied out on it and that is how Scott gambles so I believe it. Usually at the Derby you might have 2 guys playing for $10,000 with $20,000 on the rail bet. I am sure there was atleast $10,000 bet on this match.

If it was on the accustats table, it sounds more like an exhibition to me.
If Efren sold out and basically tempted fate by leaving scott some banks, sounds like Efren didn't care.

The two backers involved have both confirmed to me that they flipped a coin for who to pick, because they just wanted the match to happen, and had tried to make it happen for several days.

I call it an exhibition match, but I am sure that also Efren had a little something on the side, but it was definitely not a "big gambling" match.

Still, Scott Frost is now unbeaten the last two "big" matches against Efren (8-6 and 5-3), so no doubt that Efren is no longer as superior as he used to be.

Have you put that $100 in action yet?

By now you probably know that Efren won the Fatboy Challenge, defeating Brandon Shuff in the finals 15-8. He jumped out ahead 7-0 as Brandon was having trouble with the table speed and Efren played flawlessly. He did miss one cut shot on the ten ball but it banked two rails in the corner.

At 14-4 it looked like it was over, but Brandon woke up and won four games in a row. He even came close to winning one game by three fouling Efren. He had him on two and Efren had to kick to hit the one. He did manage a thin hit to keep the game alive. I don't think I've ever seen Efren lose a game on three fouls. Efren won $6,500 and Brandon got $3,250 for second. All paid in cash immediately! No checks, no delayed payments or installments.

I think I have a One Pocket game with Roy tonight. We'll see.
