Dammit there is no crawfishing going on! I ate them all already! They're extinct!
Since I am flying 6 hour flight on the night of 13th, I will def. need my rest to play this match and get used to the time change. I don't think I can play early on the 14th.
It's pretty obvious I jumped the gun here. When I read that you couldn't play early on the 14th, I figured that meant you
could play on the 14th -- just not early. I thought maybe a late afternoon/early evening match was in order.
As a result, I went and asked for Friday the 14th off from my work. This was not a day I had originally planned on spending in Vegas since it's 1). a work day and 2). I was only slated to play in Singles. In order to get this day off, I had to sacrifice some other days I
did plan on being in Vegas. Schedules at my work were changed and now, although you may be in Vegas for 10 days, I probably won't be.
I don't think I will be able to play on the Friday the 14th because of the long flight the night before and I have scotch doubles match early in the morning. If you don't mind this match getting streamed by TAR, then we could play some other day that week. I will be there for 10 days.
Whether this match is streamed or not is irrelevant as long as it is played. I do prefer TAR to stream because I view them as neutral and I trust them with the post money (I believe it will be $500) and I have no problems with them setting the rules and format of the match.
If you have a long flight I have an equally long (and much smellier) bus ride on Greyhound (now with 33% more convicts!). It's a 6-1/2 hour ride via the Blue Dog with no traffic.
In that 2005 qualifier win your backer kindly brought to everyone's attention, you'll notice they said I traveled via Greyhound. I took an overnight bus schedule, slept on the bus, got to Phoenix, cleaned up in the bus station restroom, caught two Phoenix Valley Metro buses to the pool room, and then waited for them to open up for the tournament. I then played the tournament and after I won on Sunday, I took the Greyhound back to LA, slept on the ride, and went directly to work.
Some people would say I went through a lot of effort to play, but, to quote your signature line: "It's just a matter of understanding what's necessary and discipline yourself to do it." Truer words have never been sigged and I agree wholeheartedly with its sentiment. What I did was necessary and I disciplined myself to do it.
You and your teammates are well-known for determination and dedication and I do not doubt that had you been in my place, you would have done the same as I did. People who are driven will find a way.
While I will try to be as accomodating as possible, I cannot say that I relish the thought of following you around from match to match or waiting by a phone for you to say when you can play. Once all BCA events get into full swing, I doubt either of us will have much time.
Pool Sharks is the best venue for this match, but they have other challenge matches scheduled throughout the week and if we do not give them a definite time, there is no guarantee we can walk in and the action table will be free.
I understand you will have scotch doubles matches on the 14th and they could potentially run late. While there is nothing I can do about the scheduling of BCA events, I can offer the following:
- I won't play at Pool Sharks prior to the match. You can have the table 30 minutes to yourself before we play and I will play cold.
- We can schedule, in addition to this match, an identical match in NY, at Skyline, 3 months from now. I will take a redeye flight to NY and play the same day I get in (this has more to do with me liking the cheapness of redeye flights, to be honest). I will need 3 months because in the event I lose in Vegas, it will take me about that much time to get another $2,000 together. However, you will be on your home turf and have the advantage of not being tired and in your home time zone. I'll post $500 to Skyline for no-show money.
Apologies for the dissertation, but to sum it up, I pretty much have to play on the 14th since I changed my work commitments in the belief that this match was going off on the 14th. There aren't many things we can change but I have outlined what I can offer in exchange for inconveniencing you to play on the 14th.
