I pulled the info off his web-site...and it was a little confusing...it had 2008 beside the tournament but showed the date as like early February 2009 or something like that...so I'm still not sure what that meant...lol

The date is wrong (2/09), the year is correct (2008). The 12th Swanee won by JA took place Feb. 9-10, 2008:

Orcullo normally tortures Alex from what I have heard. And we all know what Yang does to Orcullo.
IMO Yang already has the title, and if anyone wants it they have to play him to take it from him.
I agree. Ching Shun Yang's got the title, and to be the champ....you have to beat the champ!
I would love to see Yang in a "pit like" environment like last years DCC when Shane played Efren. I don't really think it would affect his game at all, but I would still love to see it. 300 spectators is a dark, hot, overcrowded room, A slightly broken in table with not perfectly polished balls. Tons of distractions, no refs, etc. I love the players that can handle the heat...
The problem is who is gonna back "the other guy"? I don't think anyone really wants to play Yang atm for big cash in a long set. The guy that everyone else ducks tried him twice and lost...

Like you, I don't think that enviroment would affect Yang's speed at all. Personally, I think the most pressure Yang feels is in the WPC's where he's been expected to win for years now. Especially in 2005 when they were held in his hometown of Kaohsiung, Taiwan (Chinese Taipei). In his homeland, he's known as the "Son of Pool"!
A few other things to keep in mind concerning Yang's mindset...
1. He grew up fatherless and found a "mentor" as well an instructor in the great Fong Pang Chao. Having "The Stone Faced Killer" as your coach has to have toughened him up!
2. Yang has played numerous challenge matches in the Philippines for years and there, the "pit action" is every bit as rabid as it is in the DCC.
Only the conditions in the Philippines are worse than they are at the DCC.
3. I believe that Yang relishes his role as the "Money King", aka best money player in the world because it sort of gives him some dignity in the pool world because of all the pressure that's been upon him for years now as the "best player never to have won the World Championship". That unfortunate mantle used to belong to Django, but I believe it's been passed down to Yang. And as long as he keeps winning, his status in pooldom as today's best money player stays intact.

I don't normally bump my own threads that are nearly a year old, but I would like to see some perspectives from the new people. Also, the established posters may have a different opinion now that many months have passed...

Right now in 10-Ball I would take SVB over any American on most tables. If they play in Marietta on JA's pet Olhausen then yes JA is the favorite. Other than that, I think SVB tears JA a new butt hole. Kid is just too good and does not rattle, even if there is lint on the table.
I'll prolly get a million arguements from the shaniacs (don't get me wrong i love watching shane play) but i think archer is still the man in american pool. shane goes to other countries to play the best to get better, johnny doesnt need to he is already there. i asked johnny in an online chat ,mark cantrill put on for azb peeps, who he wanted to play a TAR match with and he said shane on any table with 4" pockets. big truck put the transcript on here somewhere ill see if i can find it.
There's a Diamond 9ft ProAm in Johnny's room now, and there's a GC3 with 4 1/4" corner pockets at the Dakota Cue Club between 2 Diamond 9ft ProAms...in which Shane practices on the GC...so there's tables at both home locations for them to play on
Don't get me wrong, I've seen Shane run a bazillion racks in 10 ball, and I know how well he can dab it...But, do you really think Johnny would rattle? (Lint on the table notwithstanding?)
I think that youngster is in for the the fight of his life if he hooks up in a TAR format with Archer. Johnny's just been too good, for too long...my money's always on him.
i know it was a while back.... do you think archer would let alex pull out a 20 game comeback ( or whatever it was) like shane did. i know alex is a monster and everything, but i'd bet my soul archer wouldnt have gotten beat in that situation. that tips the scales for me and i know its super close.
You seem to think archer cant get there for the dough. breaks and runs 13 on busty in his younger years , runs through nevel like a 50 lb pallet of ex lax lol. i dont think gambling aspect even comes into play here. tourny id say its a pick em, for the cheese archer gets it.
