Hi! Can anybody enlighten me on 18-4 handicap? As far as my knowledge goes a player needs to pot 8 balls to win a game in 1pocket right? So how does the handicaping in 1pocket go?
 
I gotta buy this. I guess my only limitation will be bandwidth because I just got a new laptop with plenty of speed. I will throw $20 at it to see what happens.

Alex has to pocket 18 balls in his pocket (and David four).

I believe Alex would spot his first 6 balls then they play 12-4.

You are correct sir. total of balls has to equal 16 after all balls are spotted.
Has to be this way so there is the possibility of one ball left for both players to win the game.
Example if playing even 8-8 is 16, 9-7 is 16,10-6 and so on.

I hope that makes it a little more clear.

Basically, the guy going to 18 is trying to lift a car.

And my understanding is that Alex spots those balls at the end of any inning in which he makes balls. In other words, if he comes to the table and makes a ball, he does not immediately spot that ball but rather continues shooting until his inning is over at which point he spots all available balls until he has spotted 6 of them. Likewise, he doesn't wait until he has 6 balls available to put back up before he spots them. So if he comes to the table and makes 2 balls, they don't stay down until he has made 4 more. Rather, he would spot the two at the end of his inning and then he would have 4 left to put back up in similar fashion.

I suppose you could agree on exactly how and when they are spotted but this is my understanding of the usual and customary manner, just as it is when spotting balls owed because of scratches or fouls.

I just woke up to a scenario that has probably already happened several times ......
Alex makes 4 or 5 or 6 balls scratches or leaves the cue ball in the open ,now the bottom ball is in play either as a cut shot or a bank.
Man 18 to 4 is a lot of weight even to a goof ....and Dippy is not a goof by a long shot. I can't wait to watch this.

I don't think Alex (or anyone else) can win at this game. Viffer the Stiffer has got their number now. He is getting the same games he was losing at six months ago, but his game has improved dramatically.
 
I have on occasion give out 12-6.....but 18-4 is like comparing the a Super 8 to the MGM grand. Huge. I think I would rather give out Wild 2 in 10 ball than 18-4.

Corey won at 17-4 after Dippy beat Alex and Gabe getting 18-4. Made a decent score too. It can be beat but its a brutal game.

The last time Alex played this game he was over aggressive and was losing games that got down to the end where there were one or two balls left on the table. If he does the same thing tomorrow he will lose again but I suspect that he has thought long and hard where the holes were in his game. The fact that Dippy isn't exactly in top shape right now favors Alex as well.

I make Dippy favorite but not as big as some people seem to think. Alex is still Alex.
 
this is getting to hard to pass up.

I would love to do a little commentary on this match if you will have me.

Jay you say dippy has gotten better, can you tell what facts you have on this, have you played him? have you watched him play?heard of him taking lessons? heard he has been practicing e veryday? what parts of his game have gotten better?

if hes improved so much id love to know how maybe you can point me in the right direction?
 
I have a match this evening at 7 I have to be at. Is there a way to stream to an iPhone 4 until i get back to a pc? I really want to see all of this
