So true on so many levels.

I'm gonna go out on a skinny limb here and say I disagree, that "form is everything". And anyone who knows me will tell you, out on a skinny limb is no place for me to be. :yikes:
RKC can be p-r-i-c-k-l-y, and even braggadocios. I don't think he would deny this. Is it bad form? Maybe in some respects, it is, but I think there is more to it.
I consider myself to be a pretty good judge of character and while I have interacted with Glen here on az only infrequently over the last few years, I finally just had the opportunity to meet him in person. He's been here at Sunnyside transforming my GC1 for a number of days now. I've had the pleasure of getting to know him on a personal level during his stay.
Glen is opinionated, to be sure. But make no mistake about it, while he talks the talk, he really does walk the walk.
We have engaged in a lot of discussion while he's been here - not all pool related. Glen is genuine, smart, and an outrageously funny guy. And on top of this, as many of you already know, he possesses more knowledge of pool tables than anyone in the country, possibly even the world. This is no exaggeration.
I've had the guys who've come here and reclothed and changed out the rubber, "leveled" the table, got their money and turned on their heels.
RKC is on the home stretch with my table and he falls on the exact opposite end of the spectrum from the aforementioned 'table mechanics'. Glen
transforms a pool table. I will spare all the details here as I plan to post a seperate dedicated thread about it very soon.
Suffice to say, my table is getting put back to like new (better, actually)and it has required a lot of time and expertise. The kind of knowledge and skill that is developed over decades of paying close attention, absorbing, and innovating.
Glen's strong suit is not polite discord. I think he has a difficult time receiving info that sounds to him like 1 plus 1 equals 46.
When it come to his trade, he can explain things like how a certain cloth wears better because of the wool/nylon ratio and how it was woven then how many times the wool was worsted in order to raise the nap to what degree then shaved down to what height so the balls won't burn the nylon which is what causes the wear marks, the end result being an increase of x amount of tournaments being able to be played on the cloth before needing a recover which will save this amount of $$$ and on and on and on. How strong is that? That's the kind of answer you can get from RKC, not just that 'xyz' cloth is better.
If you are willing to peel back a layer or two of the onion that is RKC, you will find an honest, hardworking, funny, and mega-talented guy with more knowledge of pool tables than anyone you will ever meet.
IMHO, I'd be much more put off with the abundance of people that talk a whole lot of talk, who really, when it comes right down to it, can't even remotely, walk the walk.
Best,
Brian kc
