what is wrong with chalking right handed?

People who consistently chalk with the opposite hand, or the udder, do so because it is part of their PSR. For whatever reasons, they have found that doing so helps set them up in a particular fashion that makes them more consistent and more accurate. Hopkins has done it forever and is very religious about it.

How do you see that if you're a righty? If you chalk with your right hand, your left ( bridge hand) is already on the shaft. Put the chalk down, lift the cue up and take hold of the butt with your right hand. No wasted motion there.

Watch the right hand chalkers. They don't do it like you describe because the left hand is too far up the shaft to get a good balance so they switch hands by handing the butt of the cue from their right hand to the left and moving it across their body. I say most I have observed, not all though. Link me a clip of a smooth right hand chalker, I'm interested to see how they do it without wasted motion.

I've seen champions use same hand chalking and other champs doing the exact opposite. Just a personal preference, I'd say.

For me, the main objective is to effectively chalk the tip without 'raining' chalk dust down onto the shaft or my other hand (and for goodness sake, not on the table).

I consider effective chalking to be a swiping motion as opposed to drilling and doing so while the cue is at an angle so as to avoid the aforementioned dust storm.

For me, using my stroke hand to chalk (swipe) feels more natural. I'm sure though, either hand could do the job just fine.

However, I may have to rethink all of this after reading in another thread that how you chalk your cue may have some correlation to your sexual orientation.

Count me among the ranks of those who chalk with the non-bridging hand. The inevitable chalk mess, as mentioned, ends up on the wrapless end of the butt and my bridging hand doesn't get gritty and filthy as fast.

Uh oh. Is this thread on the same level as the question, "which hand do you use to wipe your behind with"?!?

Good grief,

I chalk with the right hand so I'm not holding the cue with my right hand the whole time.

personal preference.

i've spent my life chalking with my bridge hand - until about a year ago. i made the switch for 1 reason... it keeps my bridge hand cleaner which in turn keeps my shaft cleaner. i don't use powder and i sure don't wear a glove... the cleaner i keep my bridge hand and shaft the better i feel when playing.

sometimes I like to sit on my left hand until it goes numb and then when I chalk it feels like someone else is chalking my cue. I call it "the stranger"

I chalk and stroke with my right hand and the same for my left hand for that matter. So i get tons of chalk on my wrap and shaft.

I'm right handed so I chalk with my right. If I happen to get a bit of blue on my bridge hand, it ends up on the shaft instead of the linen wrap. Shafts are much easier to clean than a linen wrap.

I doubt it would be for post count. Dub always adds something interesting or useful to a thread, unlike others.

I shoot right handed, I chalk right handed.. I've been doing it that way for the last 22 years and plan on doing that way for the next 22, at least. I shoot with a custom oil rub finish sneaky pete, a custom fancy, high dollar cue from the same maker with an Irish linen wrap and I also have a beautiful custom Meucci with a white and brown specked Irish linen wrap. What I'm trying to say here is the wrap only costs around $50 to change, maybe $75 depending and lasts several years. My Meucci is 13 years old and the wrap has a tiny thread hanging but the white color is still very strong, therefore, I might be changing it soon and when it was first done by them it cost me $40-50 and if I change it now, I got 13 years out of it.. I'd say that was a good investment!

I say use it the way that's comfortable for you, don't worry about a wrap that is drops in the proverbial bucket to replace down the road if it's needs to be.

I dip my penis in freshly ground Masters and chalk with my foreskin. I saw a player who's better than me do it, and think it'll help my game. I'm surprised it hasn't caught on yet.

Honestly, this forum.

Come on now tell the truth... You don't do that because you saw a better player doing it, You do that because you enjoy washing it off later when your alone.

I just looked and I'm surprised you haven't posted in the thread titled "Has anyone tried chalk off".

In Playing off the Rail, McCumber talks of the way a DC player, Jim Henson, chalks and describes his method as masturbatory.

Carry on.
