Dumping - caught

they have the same info about each other if they chose to do the due diligence. if a player asks me to play for money i have no obligation to tell him i am better. or even if i am and ask for a spot. its gambling. you try to get the best of your opponent without cheating.

what is cheating is in each owns mind. especially from the ones that lose all the time.

if a chess master is in the park where they are gambling and asks someone to play and they say how good are you. he says not that good. whats wrong about that. they guy that asked didnt volunteer his rating.

if you are not a gambler dont gamble. and if you do expect to lose. and blame yourself for being stupid, if you gamble with a stranger you take your chances.
I've found the easiest way to convince someone you aren't good is to claim you are so good. throw in that you put yourself through college and that's the icing on the cake.

Dumping like this has been around forever. Ronnie vs. Bucktooth was done successfully several times, for big money. They put on a good show.

In my day it can get you hurt..... Bad! An apology won't suffice. All it takes is one guy who decides to get even. That's the risk dumpers take.

in this country it happens frequently or at least used to when pool had more action. even happened in detroit.

and ronnie and bucktooth.,, but anyone betting on either side there deserved to lose his money from stupidity.

generally when side betting if you can get your bet down you werent going to win.

Dumping is playing a person or people for fools. I know of people being killed for little more than pocket change. Not the money but the insult. Someone needs to carefully weigh the risks before any form of cheating gambling. It doesn't matter how important the cheater thinks the bet is, the question is how important the person you are cheating considers the cheat. Since it involves money and honor, the cash value can be almost nothing.

My experience, probably five times the people thought they were dumped than were really dumped. One reason I never played with a backer. I wasn't going to dump anyone, that didn't mean they wouldn't think they were dumped.

The smart play is to bet on the bigger scumbag losing.....you are betting they will dump. Worked for me for years at SBE.

I just didn't bet on the rail. I knew guys who would win or lose depending on which way made the players the most money so they would decide who won on the fly depending on which way the money went down.

Yeah only time I bet on the rail was at one of the swannee's. It was when Bergman was just starting to be known, someone bet me he would beat Louis Ulrich. Yeah, easiest money I ever made. It was when Louis had recently moved back to San Diego from back East where he was a terror to everyone. It was one of the first Swannee's held at hollywood billiards and I think one of the first that I cashed in.

Right, bet head to head with a guy who is not involved.
Especially as an outsider.

Voters tend to prefer honest politicians, all else equal.
To quote the Sun Tzu, "War is deception." The goal is not to be ethical or moral when dealing with the enemy.
Lying is not an admirable quality in a teacher, nor a sign of competence.
We could get into the benefits vs detriments of the Santa Claus and Easter Bunny myths on society, especially kids, but that's for a different thread. Different site, even.
Even so-called white lies can be problematic.
The priest isn't lying if he genuinely believes what he preaches. If he doesn't so believe, he's doing his parishioners a disservice by remaining in the priesthood.
A large portion of society would consider the average police officer to be neither moral nor ethical.

Like I said, most reasonable people would consider lying to be neither moral nor ethical. I'm not suggesting that lying isn't commonplace, just that that doesn't make it morally or ethically acceptable.
1969 Frazier vs Cupp, The Supreme Court ruled that the police can use deception (lying) during an interrogation.

If you are not "in on it" don't bet, is a tip I got on Ronnie Allen. ...
The problem is whether you are on only the first or second layer of "in on it".

About 45 years ago, the local room champ was going to play the champ from the city and the fix was in. The locals bet on their guy knowing the champ was dumping. That's not how it worked out. The local room champ dropped out of sight after that.

I'm a bit confused as to what point you've been trying to make, but I am genuinely curious. Are you trying to defend the kid's actions or not?
I'm not defending the dumpers, nor do I have any sympathy for the dumpees. (Original comment)

Beyond that, I just pointed out that most reasonable people do not view lying as moral or ethical, despite lying being common in our culture.

I never understood what "dumping" is, probably because doing something blatantly dishonest is foreign to me. Kind of like stock options and leveraged security trading. Why not just invest straight up in a company that you believe in instead of "gaming the market" to siphon some dollars out of it?

It is the rest of the line they left out in the Color of Money movie......."Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.........Money fleeced is even sweeter"

I would say young and dumb is part of it...but that does not explain career fleecers......so I am going to go with...Lack of morals....Greed...and the lure of easy money....Oh....and of course the addiction of the dopamine hit. ;)
