An Open Discussion about an improper Banning

If anyone knows a 5th grader that wants free personal instruction

Thanks, I appreciate your thoughtful posts, however, I agree to disagree.

We used to be highly respected, and coming back into pool has been a tough adjustment. If you treat someone a certain way it tends to make them act accordingly. I favor sponsoring charities and RIGHT NOW I'm looking to finance some 5th graders so they can get the "ultimate pool treatment".

If anyone knows a 5th grader that wants free personal instruction in the Dallas/Ft Worth area please EMAIL ME (you don't want to post here) and I'll give 7 hours a week to as many as possible. I was poor growing up in a small town and if someone hadn't helped me I may still be stuck at the "Banquet Foods" (it was the major biz at home).

CHARITIES, COME ON PLAYERS - LET"S JOIN TOGETHER FOR A GOOD CAUSE!!! (I know Jay Helfert will get involved, he was at almost all the charity events I did in California and there were a multitude of them.

This is me and Dallas Cowboy Star Tony Hill at the Tony Hill Charity Event we put on at CJ's Billiard Palace in Dallas .....I personally think all the professional events should be promoting charities (like many were in my touring days). Pool Players need positive PR and to create Win/Win relationships with the community - what better way than to raise money for worthy causes?

FWIW, IMHO, SJD constantly talks about his "drinking", has pictures of him drinking, puts drinking in his footers and avatars. He talks about his "drinking" as much as his pool playing. He seems to wear it with a "badge of honor".

So, calling him a "drunk" when he admits he is "drunk" is nothing in my book. Hell, I've drank more than most people alive today, but I don't go around bragging about it. I may have when I was 20, but he is still doing it when he is 80.

I don't frequent the main forum often, so excuse my lack of knowledge of ya'lls history, but his questions seem valid and your "answer" to his questions are lacking, to say the least.

Not a strong enough point.

I don't feel compelled to express more about why people I don't care for are still here if they feel that I have banned all the ones I don't like.

You are wasting your breath Neil. You will get either no response, a sarcastic response or a threat basically saying that you are on thin ice yourself and can be shown the door at any moment.

But again - it's the posters that are ruining this site. Don't you get it.:confused: :p

What Mr. Wilson should have replied is - if I don't like you, you can be banned. If I do like you, you won't be banned. If I like you for whatever reason - either you can draw your ball, can staple a piece of cloth, remember me at Christmas - carry on with acting as however you want, it will be ignored and we can laugh about it later. If you are ever in Maryland, come on over to my house for dinner.

If you really want to know about another member go check out their last 37 posts. If you don't know how to do this, please ask and a member - I'm sure they can give you a helping hand. Knowledge is power, information is a catalyst, both are necessary for understanding.

To be honest, I told my wife I would probably be banned for my last post, but it needed saying. My last ban, I didn't even break any rules. You banned me for "being off topic" when I was replying to someone else in an already de-railed thread.

All we are asking for, is standards. Not high school "who's popular" and in the club nonsense. You are banning people for the same stuff you are doing on here. We are adults, why not try treating us like adults? Maybe then more will act like adults.

It's not a perfect world, and you aren't going to get a perfect forum. All we are asking for is guidelines that are followed.

As far as me, you know as well as I do, that I follow the rules as well as anyone on here. You just don't like what I have to say, so you are always looking for some axe to grind with me. As a moderator, you are supposed to act above your personal feelings for someone, and see that the guidelines of the forum are followed. Equally for all.

John Barton bashes the work of Justis --- he gets banned
John Barton bashes the work of Volturi -- he gets banned
RKC bashes another poster for their knowledge of a rail --- he gets ignored
RKC bashes, with lies, the work of another table mechanic - he gets defended

What is there not to understand?

What's easy to understand is that both you and Neil think you could do a better job of moderating. It would be different, but not better, IMO.

As far as SJD, the guy commits suicide by moderator regularly. Even Steve Booth partially banned him(he could only post in Member's Only for awhile)

And, SJD, Freddy really did despise you for your running feud with him.

Watches, I don't think you are too bright. You've never been very observant and if you were ( not that it will matter ) you could ask people that know what did or didn't happen but it is more fun for a super genius ( such as yourself ) to assume you have the first clue what is going on.

*if* you had even the first clue, you'd know that RKC just returned from a ban that I dealt. Mike asked me to consider allowing his return, which I did.

But you knew all that didn't you?

Did you know that it was also Mike that made the final decision to ban JB?
Nah, but a super genius like you doesn't need any steekin facts, huh?

You should stick to whatever it is that you know, because it sure isn't this topic.
 
So, here's what I'm hearing:

- we are in favor of bans, but we want them enforced dispassionately and fairly by moderators who are not personally involved in the situation.

- we are in favor of private warnings. Public warnings, if made, should not be insulting or derogatory.

- While the cussing itself seems to initiate bans, in my opinion, the unbridled insulting and baiting of other members is the most detrimental behavior to the forum. Who wants to come on here and have their thoughts degraded just because someone doesn't like them for some reason?

- I would like to see warnings and bans for intentionally "baiting" members. There are several here who are good button pushers and I believe they are as equally culpable as the hotheads.

How about everybody think this over and decide if we can get all of this behind us and start with a better quality forum? Anything you can say here that's POSITIVE to make the forum better, let's say it.

"Button pushing" is waaaay too subjective. I get my buttons pushed all the time but either ignore them, Ignore them, or, on rare occasion :-) fire back.

What is button pushing to one is just gay repartee to another.

And a good reason why Chris was nominated for Moderator in the Mod Sticky.

That is why I believe there is nothing wrong with a public warning. That way, everyone can see that it happened and why. Leaves no Grey Area that a member may be getting special treatment.

I know that I have mentioned this at least a couple of times. When someone hits the Report Button, it goes to the owners and filters back down.

Not always Dave's decision on who gets the Hammer.

Me is on 2 warnings and know that I also have pushed the envelope on more than a few occasions.

I'd also add that people should be careful what they wish for.
I get the feeling that soon, people will shift their complaints to " censorship".

So, you make the jump from me asking the rules as stated to be followed, to me thinking I would be a better moderator. By that reasoning, you feel you could do a better job as president, than the last president you had a disagreement with. Sorry, real life doesn't work that way.

If you noticed, there is a thread asking for moderators. You didn't see me volunteering in there at all. ;)
