Billy Incardona - Short Rant

Billy is very good I think. He is good at analyzing the situation. I really like Scott and Billy in the booth bc they argue a bit about whatever.

What I don't care for is the all too typical "Ok x is on the 6 ball and what he wants to do is get position on the 7 ball. If x misses then it will give y a chance to get out."

Most don't realize or address who their audience really is. Most treat everyone like they have only played about 20 games of 9 ball. Maybe there really isn't that much to say.

However, I like to listen to Jeremy Jones, Billy, and Scott. Maybe I just like their voices or their delivery. I like to listen to their one pocket commentary the most. They have good short side stories when it gets boring.

I really hate all that cuetsy stuff like OMGWGAF just jabbering about everything but the match. She is a very good blog writer though.

Billy is a great commentator. I've learned a lot by listening to his thought process and been entertained by his stories a time or two.

I totally agree and I am sticking with Billy Incardona as the Chick Hearn of pool commentators. No one describes what is happening at the table better than him, and it is a free lesson everytime he steps into the booth and calls a game!!

Jeremy Jones is awesome in the booth for one pocket!! He gives you 3 options every shot. You just can't ask for more than that...

To BJTYLER, I had a ten dollar bet on SVB match with a close friend. I wanted both players to play good, as they did. Me talking about something other than the match is because we're in the booth for 9 hours and when there is time and noone is shooting it doesn't matter. I bragged on Ko-Pin- yi all day. I was married to an asain lady for 20 year. Sorry you were so un-happy with my commentating, all I can do is try to do better.

Bobby,

FWIW, this is only my opinion. I'm sure there are others - as is evident from this thread - who enjoy your commentary. I know you guys are in the booth for a lot of hours and I'm sure it gets tiring. I actually thought you and Billy's commentary during the finals was much better.

Every streamer out there should be beating down Jeremy Jones door trying to get him to commentate for them. His commentary is well spoken, intelligent, professional, and exceptionally knowledgeable. He doesn't say too much, or too little. He doesn't act like a kid, or an idiot, or go off on stupid tangents, yet he remains entertaining. And I don't think there is another commentator out there that provides more insight during the course of a match than he does.

I agree. As a commentator or any On Air Personality, it is your job to do prior research.

If you don't know how to pronounce the name of the person you are talking about, the names of cities, then its on you when you mess up.

When I was taking a short Broadcasting course, I had a good laugh when a young girl pronounced the name Cairo, as Seero.

Chinese comedians, if you can find one, can make fun of their own names, others can do it as long as its in relatively good taste and not offensive.

The CSI first of its kind event, Players travel great distances to play, and make a good showing. And to get called Ping Pong. Serious poor taste, and of course, what can a person do is to try and pass it off as a joke.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest Link.

Agree

I think everyone should grow some thicker skin. Nobody's perfect. You can't say anything anymore without offending someone.

My feelings exactly , no one can laugh it off and move on anymore. It all becomes racism , non professional, bullying etc. This is not commentating on the Super Bowl where you have 6&7 figure incomes working the booth and who are as boring as dry toast. I will take the likes of Incardona and Deliberto any day to 90% of big sport commentators?Years ago when players in any sport had a long name or one that was hard to pronounce commentators shortened the name or gave them a nickname, today that is all taboo for fear of making someone cry followed by a law suit. This political correctness has gone way to far, and in the past 6 years has swept thru the Pool world.I expect most to disagree with this and that is fine It is just how I feel.

Get a life guy!!! I'm offended by people who constantly look for something to be offended by. GET A LIFE !!! Remember Don Rickles ? His whole career was established making fun of every ethnic group in the world. Why weren't people offended then ? Try to just enjoy the pool for Christs' sake!

Just a couple of quick comments:

Billy is one of the best commentators in pool and when teamed with Grady they were one of the best commentary teams in sports.

Regardless of who is doing the commentary at an event they should aspire to something approaching professionalism, absent rooting for a particular player, or ridiculing a player based upon their name, appearance, or ethnicity.

In that vein, commentators should try and do a bit of due diligence and before a match and learn: what are the rules, what’s the format, how do you pronounce a player’s name, which ball is which coIor. That is baseline stuff. Beyond that they should try and learn a bit of background on the players in a match beforehand.

I believe Bobby revealed part of the problem: the number of hours they are in the booth — nine hours. Are you kidding me? Having done commentary myself several times I can tell you that your brain is pretty much toast after a couple of matches. You at least need a break.

And one last comment: no one should be allowed in the booth after consuming alcohol or even worse, allowed to drink in the booth. There are pool commentators that do that, thinking they can get away with it, but they cannot and it is clear to the listeners they’re intoxicated.

Like I said, aspire to something approaching professionalism. Shouldn't be hard.

We always enjoyed calling Ismael Paez the ''Mexican Jumping Bean'' :happydance:It took time to ''take'' but it stuck. It fits his personality perfectly. And man....he and his wife can really shake it on the dance floor with that great MORRO Smile  .

I suppose I might be offended if I were addicted to my own outrage, an Asian with no sense of humor, a woman, or an assshole, but I'm not. Yes, in today's day and age, people should know that they need to be tight-lipped and paranoid so they don't offend other white people who are monitoring their every move, so I guess in that regard, Diliberto should have one of his gold stickers taken away. Other than that, maybe all you shamers should go to the store and get some beef jerky, androgel, some skoal, and a case of shut the phuck up.

A woman? You mean because they're over sensitive (stereotype), have no sense of humor (stereotype) and their breasts get in the way of ever being good at pool (tribute to Ben Wright)?

If anybody thinks this tournament/stream can be done better... what is stopping you?

We need more people promoting and showing us all how much pool means to you! Get together with other likewise people if you have to. Anti the dough up and begin planning an event, I will certainly be in line to be your first customer.

I am certainly thankful that some people are putting on an event that I believe is a losing endeavor. If CSI is making any money, I assure you they could make more in the S&P 500. And much less hassle. It amazes me how people think that this sport is so lucrative. I have yet to find one player retire without some other income stream. We may see our sport as exciting, but even soccer is more exciting to the untrained eye.

Justin,

Instead of taking these opinions as "commentator hate", why not treat them as potentially valuable customer feedback that you and CSI can utilize to produce a better product?

That just makes entirely too much sense.

er, that's kinda like saying: if you don't like the president why don't you run?

What is stopping you :-)

Perfect

This whole thread is sad. One of the greatest pool commentators of all time made a slight mistake, and now everyone is trying to have him crucified..I'm glad that the PC-madness has not yet reached my country to such an extent that every word of written text or obscure sport commentary is feverishly scanned for any hint of racism or prejudice. We are getting there but still nowhere near US levels. Now people are hoping that other commentators with maybe 20% of Mr. Incardona's knowledge will take over. Like a certain popular one who just shouts the same cliches over and over, or another who just drones on and on in a monotonous voice with absolutely no energy or life behind it. Or how about the ones who solely discuss their dinner arrangements, their own schedule and friends..sigh. This is the future of pool, and I don't like it.

If pool ever were to go mainstream you wouldn't have any of this. Instead you would have bone dry commentary where nothing objectionable or edgy is ever said, in any sense. Have fun with that. I for one will actively seek out matches commentated by Mr. Incardona. I like to learn stuff while I watch pool and his commentary really helps with that. He is also funny. Being funny means pushing limits, and sometimes you will step over the line slightly. As long as you recognize your mistake, that is ok. Grow thicker skin and deal with it.

The rest of you can enjoy your velvet foghorns droning on with inane nonsense or blindingly obvious shot choices that you could easily see for yourselves if your eyes were at least half open.

Thank you , well said. We are losing sight of what Pool really is with everyone in the US becoming so touchy about every little thing.

.

most people in this thread are defending him, not wanting him "crucified". I think he is a great commentator. No need to exaggerate.

Probably should have thought twice before making the joke, but he should be forgiven considering his great track record as a commentator.

This guys post tells it ALL. Even though this forum is probably the most popular, it can also be the most damaging! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that doesn't mean every time a subject arises that you disagree with, you have to voice it here verbally and with a demeaning tone. Seems to me a lot of people with TOO much time on their hands! Billy I is a icon in the world of gambling and the cue games, I'm sure there are many reasons why he is chosen to do commentary at many events, and keeps getting recalled to do the job. It's NOT the money I can assure you that, he does it because He's devoted his entire life to the sport! And most likely feels He'd like to give something back, which is what He's doing!

So true....In my fifty plus years ''in the pool'' room or bar gambling scene many there are just hangers around....they are not well accepted in real life, so where do they go, the bar or the pool room, why? Most other places they frequent in life don't want them around, so they eventually show up, stir it up and reinforce their poor character.
