I would fight to the ends of the earth to clear my name weather it be a second mortgage or raking lawns to come up with the money I would get a lawyer and fight it and if the lawyer won't work with me than I would find one that will. They only win if you let them..... Just my .02
My nephew was caught up in the exact same thing as Bobby in Atlanta, Junkie. He had checked out of his room and went back to a friends room who was about to check out when the cops busted in and found drugs. My sister and her husband did as you suggested, they ended up having to sell their house and move in with my brother in law's 92 year old father's 2 bedroom house. The kid was convicted with the others and is serving 20 years. The $160K the house brought is gone plus many thousand more they borrowed from the old man.
Point is, Bobby is in a "Catch 22" situation. No one can blame him for copping a plea. I would be curious to know what a public defender's win percentage is in the Memphis area on drug cases. I bet it ain't good.
Bobby is a great guy with a ton of heart. No one wishes him more luck than I do.........
