Breaking News from Jacksonville

If you were unsure at all, then why wouldn't you show up for an 11 AM match? I mean, the worst that happens is you end up having to watch a few of your buddies play for two hours. I can think of worse ways to spend two hours...

Seems like a bad move, regardless of what the board said.

I wonder also. If he really had any significant interest in the event he would have made sure of his match time; ESPECIALLY if there was any confusion regarding the start time. If it's important enough to hit someone over, it's important enough to spend a bit of effort and clarify your starting time.

I notice Shane didn't hit anyone; glad to see he is not joining the already significant group of petulant, perpetual adolescents - pool has more than it's share already.
 
While this story is interesting, it's only 1/25th as interesting as Fabio bashing his own head against the pool table in Valley Forge. Professional pool must be stressful!
 
Match time was changed after Corey had left previous day and he was not told otherwise.At least thats what Corey told me on phone..He said he wasn't proud of what he did just lost his temper...I'm sure same situation with SVB...A tournament director should have to contact players if he changes a match time but Corey and charlie didn't like each other even before this incident..This same incident has happened before with charlie running a tournament in Atlanta..

Hey Neil,

It was Jeremy Jones that punched the hole in that wall back in 2005... I was about 10 feet away from him when he did that - Jeremy thought the wall was a lot thicker than it was - Jeremy apologized to Jeff about it - he was very remorseful.

That's what happens when you don't have a good TD running the show. If you had been there Bill, I bet it would have never happened. Or Ironman or a few others that know what they're doing. Sometimes being cheap can be expensive!

If this is true, then shame on whoever put that up there. That's about as vague as it gets. No way to run a pro tournament!

Was it? Obviously you would be more correct since you were in the vicinity of it happening, my memory isn't the most reliable obviously and I am glad you corrected me. It is unusual for someone like Jeremy to do something like that too since I have always seen him in a decent mood and very level headed, even after losing matches or getting knocked out of a tournament.

My life is a mess right now and I am a ball of stress but I don't let pool affect me in an adverse way, but I can see how someone with their livelihood at stake might not take the same approach. These are trying times and there is a lot of pressure on top caliber players, plus you never know if there is existing history between the two.

A few years ago I had that same problem - my match was for 2 PM - and the on the chart, the 2 looked like a 7 - so my opponent wasn't there at 2PM.

I told Robb Saez to run to the hotel and get him - because I genuinely felt bad for the guy because I also read the match time as "7 PM" ...

I'm not sure who did the chart that day (either Luc Salvas, Scott Smith, or Charlie) but the handwriting is hardly legible - and it gets confusing. I'm pretty sure its the same people marking this flow with their chicken scratch..

It sucks that both guys - Two Champions - got forfeited. In the end it is always your responsibility to know when you are supposed to be there, but writing "11 or 1" on the match time is kind of strange.

IIRC, Jeremy was playing Mika - I was two tables down when he punched the wall. Everybody was surprised - including Jeremy. Jeff really didn't seem too upset about it. It happens. Emotional release. If he had punched Mika, he would have had problems.

Clearly the tourney director's fault. There should be no question re: start times for next day's opening round. MBO- Management by Objective: the system is designed for proper output. AKA: Garbage in- Garbage out.

Bad choice by Corey to react the way he did. He will be the only one to suffer consequences.

I agree. I know each player needs to know when he plays, but....It's a professional tournament and it needs to be run professionally as well. Why didn't the TD just put "be here sometime tomorrow". I think that there needs to be no question on the board of tomorrow's match times when a player leaves for the evening.

The TD board said to play at 11:00 OR 1:00.

So, likewise, Corey Deuel came to compete in a pool tournament OR punch the Charlie Williams in the noggin...

That OR qualifier can be used multiple ways.

The tournament director should always communicate to the player when their starting match time will be for the next day. Always.

This accomplishes two things: 1) the player did not misread the chart, and 2) the player can't complain that they weren't informed.

And yeah, I think a lot of us would like to know why "11 or 1" was on the chart in the first place.
