Eric, your work speaks for itself. How much do you charge for a shaft with a black collar and silver ring?, its a 5/16-18 piloted. Do you need the cue or just measurements? Thanks.

I wasn't actually offering shafts for sale. Sorry if it was misleading. It was supposed to be a conversation kept within the cuemaker forum & not in the for sale forum.

Oh okay, haha, I know how good the shafts are that come on your cues so I thought it would have been the nuts. Who do you recommend to make shafts?

I have a brand new shaft made by Rick Howard with ivory ferrule and Kamui tip I will sell for $150, just adding something for sale to the thread.

I have been thinking about becoming a cue maker. and after reading all the posts in this thread I have decided to make the $400.00 shafts.
versus the $150.00 shafts. Thanks in advance

Ditto..........or both :slap:

Cost of a shaft....got the shaft :ignore:
Maybe it's simply, the newest salesman complained about his pitch being rained on, and someone thought "if I bury it here, no one will notice" ? Or it could have been just a big mistake that no one knows how it happened. Either way, It seems lately any newcomer using this site just for sales, seems to carry more weight over the existing members, even though the sales guys aren't even club members. Just an observation from the cheap seats.

Eric,
Man has this thing gotten long (and all over the place). To answer the original post, I'm in at $100-125 for a plain jane shaft (phenolic joint ring, LBM ferrule and single layer tip). More for ivory, matching rings or other higher priced accessories. You and RATCUES are definitely underpriced, in my opinion.

I believe I build a very high quality playing cue, but I don't have the widespread reputation built up, yet. I have a few different pricing lines but they involve standard single wood maple, or laminated maple, or the timeless timber reclaimed maple shafts. This is to accommodate different player's interests. The starting materials have different pricing so they command different final pricing in my mind.

If there is another build-off, I would like to be considered in the mix.

Thanks for the interesting thread topic. I believe we have learned a lot about shafts and ........ people.

All it takes is somebody to organize a build-off. It won't happen unless somebody initiates it. There seems to be plenty builders interested in participating. It's a really neat idea & the first one actually worked out rather well given the hurdles. But now that folks see it can be done & isn't a tool or contest to bash the builders, I think more more builders would participate and more players as well. But it takes somebody to step up & make it happen.

How could one possibly think that a group of guys (and maybe a lady or two) keep anything on topic?.....none less a group of testosterone spewing, wood whittling manics?

Ok I have thought about a build off for awhile now. I will do the initial set up and run it. All interested cue builders that are interested can pm me. I will put together the required cue specs on a basic cue for each entry keeping it fair. All entries will remain anonymous until build off is over. Once winner is announced the cues would then be raffled off for charity here on AZ. All cue builders will be in agreement on this term and can vote on what charity will benefit. This is just a quick draft. Post here in the thread if you agree and are interested in me running this. I would like to stay with cue builders who are members here on AZ. The Cues will be judged by 12 selected AZ members based on various subjects and use a grading scale of 1 to 5. The winning builder will receive a decorated plaque to hang in their shop. Just trying to get the ball rolling and would love to do it.
