One time, I shot a ball into a place on the pool table where there was no pocket and it remained on the table. It that what you all refer to as a "miss"? That happened to me once a couple of years ago...

... Now a 1 piece, 3 inch slate diamond...
I've never played on a GC, but I love the Diamond tables. IMO it makes you up your game a little bit by putting a premium on speed and accuracy. I don't think a table can make you miss, after all is said and done you are the one that missed the shot. Play the shot properly and you shouldn't miss.
If in doubt....just aim for center pocket![]()
I keep having a problem with balls down the rail frozen or just off the rail on Diamonds. If the ball touches the rail near the pocket even at pocket speed it bobbles, if I hit it with spin when frozen on rail with enough stroke to get to the other end it bobbles even when hit perfectly, If I shoot the ball into the facing, even with correct spin to help it go in it pops out I also noticed if I shoot hard at a straight in ball and it goes center pocket , that pops out also. Are all of these normal Diamond actions or could the tables be set up incorrectly, it's not just one but several ?
Line 4 balls up in a row frozen to the rail, shoot the 4 ball combination as hard as you want, if the first ball goes into the pocket and stays down...then the problem is you, and not the table!![]()
Thanks, I respect your knowledge sir. How about the straight in shot that pops back out.I have had it happen with a good stroke and not shooting hard at all ? Is it possible the ball got airborne a bit {dirt chalk etc} and is hitting the pocket on an imperceptable bounce?
If you were shooting with extreme draw with a hard stroke...yes the cue ball is airborne at the moment it comes into contact with the object ball, causing it to be airborne as well, hitting the back of the pocket high and coming back out.
Try the same shot with follow english and see if the ball pops back out, it won't...because its not airborne![]()
I have another question. I have played on some Diamond bar tables here in AZ that the balls jump off the rails at almost any speed? what causes this?
I would guess rails too low. Johnnyt
I was thinking about the difference on Diamonds and Gold Crowns, I know the Diamond has a deeper shelf and the way the pockets are cut but another thing I observed is what happens when a ball hits the rail. I could touch the rail on a similar sized pocket GC and it would drop and the same shot on a Diamond would not. Could the bounce off the Diamond rails cause it to miss as opposed to some of the more worn rails on some of the GCs?
If in doubt....just aim for center pocket![]()
