Hu
Must be something wrong with my computer. I turned it off and on again, but I still cannot see smiley faces. Do you think I need to empty my cookies?
Here's something for Cleary...
I happened to pick up an Accu-Stats Statistical Analysis of 9-Ball Pocket Billiards, Volume 1, No. 10. Cleary, you were 3 years old when this came out.
On the cover is a picture of Efren Reyes smiling broadly, believe it or not, with the president of the Sands Regent, Pete Cladianos. He won the event:
After a first-round loss, Filipino Efren Reyes won the next 12 matches in a row to snap off the Sands Regent II, $10,000 first prize. Of the 26 .900's in the tournament as a whole, Reyes shot seven of them.
.900's, Cleary, is a measurement of the player's speed in the 9-ball game, a measurement created by Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats.
Continuing:
The event was produced by The Great American Tour and The Keystone Cue and Cushion. It was promoter Gene Stary's second and most successful casino event to be hosted by The Sands. The Sands added $20,000 and spread out the $40,700 purse to 24 places. The event drew 69 entrants who paid $300 apiece to participate.
Man, not much has changed as far as payouts and pool-related sponsors. That's a good score for the casino to chip in 25 sand bags.
Continuing:
Doug Dlisch, with the assistance of his wife Geri, ably directed the well-organized event. Hank Pericle kept the flow chart in order while JAY HELFERT managed the very capable referees with one assigned to each of the eight Gold Crown III tables.
Hmm, that name in red looks familiar!
Here's one of the NUMEROUS tidbits about the tournament presented by Accu-Stats, preserving this tiny bit of American pool history:
In the 9-4 victory over Howard Vickery (.878), Efren Reyes (.973) shot the high TPA for a single session. He ran out each of the nine opportunities he had and only missed one combination-bank and one kick.
The only shutout of the tournament was when Efren Reyes (.918) drubbed Danny Medina (.538), 9-0.
Poor Danny Medina. I hate it when that happens!
Here's some of the FINAL STANDINGS of the 69 players, provided by Accu-Stats of this event:
1st Efren Reyes (.900), $10,000
2nd Jay Swanson (.855), $6,000
3rd Wade Crane (.835), $4,000
4th Danny Medina (.821), $3,000
5th-6th Mike LeBron (.838) and Howard Vickery (.800), $2,000
Continuing with selected players in the tournament that caught my eye:
9th-12th Danny DiLiberto (.837), $1,100
17th-25th Earl Strickland (.827), Joe Salazar (.818), Ernesto Domiguez (.823), $300
25th-32nd Bill Incardona (.887), Kim Davenport (.830), Keith McCready (.784), $100
Some more competitors in the event:
Louie Roberts, Cole Dickson, Benny Conway, Ismael Paez, David Howard, Chris McDonald, Terry Bell, Jose Parica, Cecil Tugwell, Dan Louie, Larry Hubbart, Lou Butera, Jr. Harris, Allen Hopkins, Ray Martin, Mike Zimmerman, just to name a few.
Is it me, or were there some tough shooters in this tournament?!
