Dont buy a Stinger Jump Break

 I recently took a trip to Seyberts in coldwater Michigan. I was in need of a Jump Break cue and a close friend of mine said that they work sweet. Mind you he mentioned this a couple of years ago. I asked the guy at Seyberts if he had one and he told me not to bother with them. He said that the tips have been coming off and the quality was definately not there. Since they switched from the Jerico cue maker to McDermott they have been no good. Anyway the guy mentioned trying out the poison Jump Break. Damn what a great cue. Nice stiff hit and feel. I found it easier to jump than my bunjee cue. Ran me about 200 bucks and more than worth it. Hope this has been helpful.

i don't know anything about tips coming off the new Stingers, but I can tell you without a doubt that they break a TON, very solid feel.

If they are having problems with the Stinger..... that is just sad. I was talking to Mike Gulyassy one time at a tournament, and he was pissed off at McD for the first Sledgehammers they made. They are buying names with reputations, then relying on the names only for success of those products, and not putting the quality control into them that they should.

If that's true you'd think a reputable Co. like McDermott would know better. All they have to do is visit these forums to see how quality minded most of us are.

Thanks for the poison report

Thanks for the Poison report, it is appreciated. I would take the bashing of the Stinger with a grain of salt unless and until it is more widely reported however. This sounds like somebody with an ax to grind and unlike anyone I have talked to at Seyberts. I have been impressed with their professionalism and this doesn't sound very professional.

Anyone else know of problems with newer Stingers? Anyone else with feedback on the Poison cue?

Stinger Jump Break

Being told this is happenning and knowing this is happenning are two different things. I would also suggest you call Jerry Powers if it is true and I'm more than sure his backing of his cue will take care of the problem.
I'm biased, I'm a friend of Jerry's and in general I have never found any credibility to he said she said I find periodically on the net. ALL cue makers work hard to develope cues and reputations.....if you like another cue better so be it but please lets not slam cues or makers if you don't have first hand knowledge and haven't at least given the manufacturer a chance to make things right. JMHO

I have an original stinger. I miscued over the top of the cue ball and broke the tenon, sending the tip and ferrule across the room. I contacted Jerry Powers and sent it to him the next day, and it was returned to me better than new in less than a week.

McDermott has great customer service. If you have a problem with their cue they take care of it. Turn around time is closer to a month, but they are responsive to email and in general do what they say they will do when they say they will do it.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a McDermott cue, if I were in the market.

I would say get your hands on a pre McD made one. Well built and break/jump great.

I'll have to be one with a different opinion - I received a McDermott Stinger from Nielsen's Billiards 2 weeks ago and I'm thoroughly impressed with the hit, feel, and performance of the cue. Definitely one of my better buys - especially at the price of $135.20 shipped!!! IMHO it's definitely comparable to my friend's Jerico Stinger that he paid $300 PLUS for at last year's BCAPL in Vegas.

i know the old ones used to jump better than they broke. they still broke pretty well though.

from what i read somewhere they changed the taper so the cue could be played with too but apparently they don't jump the ball as well now. this is the first i've heard of quality issues

If you had spent the money and bought your "stinger" from Jerico Cues you would not have had a problem and would have loved the cue. Jerry Powers "Jerico Cues" makes the very best jump/break cue you will ever find--- sounds like McDermott has cheapened up a very good cue.

I owned a Stinger from Powers and it was very nice and durable. I hate to hear someone bash a cue that has not even played with one..

I also find it hard to believe that a company would bad mouth a product that they sell. Thats just my opinion and it ain't worth much!

I have one of the bocote originals and have never had a problem or a complaint about it. Spoke with Jerry once also seems like a guy that really cares about his cues to me..

As a proud owner of a "Stinger", I find this info hard to believe. McDermott should hear about this alleged problem....SPF=randyg

Just to let you guys know. I dont bash cue makers for no reason. Im just a messenger. Remember that I wanted to try the Stinger out. " I wouldnt bother with them". Those were the words that came out of the guys mouth. Hey if someone at a billiard store is telling you that they are having quality problems with a certain type of cue Im going to listen. And to those people who purchased a Stinger Jump /Break and or McDermotts make and its good than great.

LOL this is a funny thread, and i can talk here because i own a McD stinger the NG-01 model. Now the cue it self is beautiful! and when i broke with it in the box it broke great with a ton of power without me really doing much, but when i took it to the long rail to break a nine ball rack the first time i did it the shaft SPLIT in half.... and this is with the sticker on the butt end, thats how new it was. but i have to say i sent it back and mcdermott made me a new shaft for it with no charge at all. im happy its a great break cue though in my opinion and i have broken with a lot of break cues

I have one of the Jerico Stinger's for about 4 or 5 years now and haven't had any problem with it. Maybe it is a McD quality issue. Every email I've sent to McD though has been answered, so I would rate their customer service pretty highly. And they do have that lifetime warranty. Does that not apply to the problem at hand?

NG01 here....I purchased mine in the first week of release (in fact mine is a first run without the clover M logo on it). ZERO issues at all, and does exactly what I wanted...which is took a seperate jump cue outta the case! Only other J/Bs I've had is a J&J, and a Fury, and the Stinger is far better in both areas (breaking and jumping) IMO. If you want to only carry 2 cues, I recommend theStinger whole-heartedly...
