Earl Endorses USA Pool League Calling Pool a Revolution

Interesting news, JAM. Here's hoping the sponsors get on board, but it any were mentioned in the article, guess i missed it.

I hope it all works out! maybe it can be like the snooker league in the uk with different tiers to work your way up. I think spectators understand a league more then a tour.

btw Jam, thats a great pic of your dog! we just got a new pup.....his father is the pic in my avitar.

I'll bet your puppy is so cute. I love puppies. We have a 2-year-old lab that lives across the street, and he's still a big puppy. I get to dog-sit him when they go on vacation. He's a handful, but I like it because he gets me out walking and exercising. My old dog can't walk long distances anymore because of his hips. I'm sure your new puppy will bring you much joy in your life.

I actually was surprised to see Earl chosen for this representation. For some reason, I envision Shane as the new wave of pool players. Not saying Earl is a has-been or anything.

It's nice to see folks continuing to promote pool in every way possible. I hope Earl does the right thing and gives it his all for the BCA league and CSI, showing up at events and staying for the duration.

Oh, man, he's the cutest little puppy I've seen in a long time. Yeah, I remember that chewing stage. I just had to dog-proof the house, kept lids on all trash cans, no shoes on the floor, et cetera. We actually dog-proofed one bathroom, and instead of a crate, we would put him in the bathroom as a puppy if we had to go out and leave him alone. He loved the cold floor. To this day, he stills thinks the bathroom is his. He goes in there after a walk and shuts the door on himself, so he can go to sleep. LOL

Gosh, he's cute. :love2:

ARF!! LOL! Good Tank, good Tank, HELP!

I wish them luck with Earl leading the charge. When I think of Earl, I think of poise, professionalism, emotional stability, understanding, & dignity.

I'm not sure why this hasn't been released on our forum yet, and if it has, then I missed it, but here's the link: http://www.prlog.org/11035468-strickland-endorses-usa-pool-league-calling-for-pool-revolution.html

Good luck to Mark Griffin and Holly! I hope this helps your mission. :)

Hi JAM, the release has gone out also to the billiard press. I think with the US Open recently, it might have gotten lost in the shuffle, but will ask Mike to check his inbox. I know he's been swamped.

Love PRLog. It is not only a great place to promote the sport in general to non pool centric media, but a cool place to also read up on some interesting and lesser known stories around the world.

Thanks and hope life is going well for you and Keith. the DC area is beautiful this time of year for sure.

Holly :)

The USAPL is growing with about 3-4 new league managers applying weekly. This more assertive expansion started about 3 months ago. Mark Griffin realized a couple of years ago that in order to have a strong pro side of the U.S. pool world, it needed a foundation and to have a stronger relationship with the amatuer / league side of the sport. No one group or individual, no matter how much cash they have (IPT for instance) can sustain a long term pro model in the U.S. It is not a good business model to begin with.

At the same time on the league side, as many of us know, many issues needed to be taken on and a new way needed to be introduced that was more sport, player friendly and fair. Issues such as sandbagging, hamstrining players and teams with too many limits and structures more designed to support the upper escelon of a league system and not giving a decent proportional amount back to the local level from the national organization needed to be addressed. This is the "revolution" referred to in the article.

The USAPL is growning and evolving. Our goal is through the USAPL to address all these issues, many that have been discussed for years on this very forum. We were listening and hope that those who see this vision join us and support the USAPL.

Holly :)

Wishing you all the best, too, Holly. We're in throes of autumn colors.
The yellows are so vibrant and bright right now, and the reds and oranges
are almost here. This is actually my favorite time of year.
I love the change of seasons, which is why I guess I'll always be an East Coast gal. :)

Here's a view from my office window that I took two days ago of the yellow leaves,
though today a lot of these leaves are laying on the ground for me to rake up -- uh,
make that Keith will rake up.

Congrats to both

I actually was surprised to see Earl chosen for this representation. For some reason, I envision Shane as the new wave of pool players. Not saying Earl is a has-been or anything.

It's a good partnership.

I remember a poll a while back and it asked what pro player was the biggest influence on you as a beginner...(or something like that)

Earl was by far the favorite, running away.

Two generations have now watched Earl play. He still packs the crowds in whenever he plays. Hopefully another generation will be lucky enough to see him.

He's a long way from over the hill.

Cool that the league received some exposure in the press but I'm not sure it's "news" that Earl is endorsing the league. After all, he is on Team CSI.

Earl and Shane are both super stars of pool. Earl has been long time favorite US player and Shane is the bright shooting star. However, no one can challenge when Earl speaks, every one gets drawn in! He's got an addictive personality and with all the great positive feedback from fans how awesome & funny Earl is at CSI Grand Master Exhibitions, the choice was more than obvious.

We are also aware that Earl has can be controversial - however, no living US player has accomplished more than he has and that is something everyone knows :)

We at the CSI are honored and excited to have Earl affiliated with the USAPL -the league that will build a bond between amateur and pros :)

Is this USAPL replacing the BCAPL? I thought CSI was teamed up w the BCA?

Anyway Im no league player but 7000 players showing up in Vegas every May tells me the BCA must be OK.

Earl doesn't always play nice with others but it is my understanding that the was the only guy who wasn't in on the fix at the tournament of champions in the early 90's. If that's true his integrity speaks for itself.

I hope the league is a success and they have one near me.

In the APA if you are too good you can't play. In the BCS, at least locally, you have to win the league just to break even.

Earl Strickland and CSI

Cool that the league received some exposure in the press but I'm not sure it's "news" that Earl is endorsing the league. After all, he is on Team CSI.

Because of the current economy, we had to discontinue the travels of Team CSI. We feel we did the best we could - Mark Cantrill created several cross country trips for the guys - and we put some money in their pockets. But the expenses could not be overcome.

It was another nice concept that did not quite work. But it brought great players to a lot of pool rooms in a lot of places.

The arrangement with Earl is a new agreemant. It is not with the other members of Team CSI.

We just feel that Earl is a legend and has a lot more to contribute to the pool world. We are happy to be affilited with him.

-------------------------------------------------------------
The USAPL and the BCAPL are two different league operations. (Just like Chevy and Cadillac are two divisions of General Motors).

BCAPL will continue like it is - and the USAPL will fill another group of players. They are two very different leagues.

BCAPL is a sanctioning body of 500 independent leagues - many playing by different games and rules. Most leagues play with a round-robin format. The National event (held each May in Vegas) is scratch. Our National Event is the 'greatest pool show on earth'. with 6,000+ amateurs and several pro events.

The USAPL is match play format, with a National Handicap System, with exclusive protected territories. This is the future of pool. All leagues play by the same rules. All leagues will have all stats on-line through 'Leaguesys' the most advanced web based system available. And this will create the amateurs and pros working together for the future growth of the game.

CSI (CueSports International) is the parent entity of BCAPL, USAPL, Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball, The US Bar Table Championshp, US Open 10-Ball, US Open One Pocket, National Championship Series and several other events.

I know this can be confusing - but there is a plan - and it is working.

Having Earl Strickland involved can only help in making more players aware of what we offer.
