I'm very....very upset at the way you treated my customer Katie Girl...with the pool table you sold her 19 months ago, and what I had to go through to make it right with her...Rob, all I can say is....it wasn't enough that you built new rails for her table...and it wasn't enough that you had your guys come out and replace the slates on her table....and that I had to replace them again...AFTER that as well. What bothers me the most....is that you didn't even offer her an apology for the screw ups made by your 40 year...third generation company. I'm hot right now, though it's not really my place to say something....but, I'm going to open this post as a way of providing an upfront...main forum...invitation to Katie Girl...to express her views on the customer service she received from your company. If she says nothing more about this....then I'll let this thread go, but if she does...and would like an explanation of what was all wrong with her pool table...then I'll help her explain it. Rob...you shouldn't have treated her like she was a nobody....and like I didn't know shit about pool tables...that...was wrong on your part, and NO customer deserves to be deceived like your company deceived her...and then treated like....your company was NOT at fault!

I'm still pretty pissed over this whole deal....at the very least...Goldenwest should have offered to pick up the bill on her table for all the work I did...because it should have been right in the first place....seeings how the table came straight from the factory 1 mile from Katie's house...and their factory mechanics were used during the initial setup. As long as consumers allow this kind of treatment as customers, nothing in this industry is going to change. It really embarrassed me when someone says, "Made in America" about their product...as if that's suppose to mean something special....and then pull this kind of crap:rolleyes: kind of makes me wonder what made in America means any more, when the Chinese can build better pool tables than this:rolleyes: That's why I don't really care where a pool table is built...just as long as it's built RIGHT, and the manufacturer stands behind that product 100%...instead of their first response being..."we're not responsible for that table"...and, "it didn't come from us"...yet it has THEIR name plate on the head rail....and the sales receipt clearly indicates that it DID:eek::rolleyes:

Is that what "Made in America" really means anymore....to lie and cheat your customers....in order to make a buck! An apology would have been a good start...as that wouldn't have cost them a dime!

Glen

Glen,

Perhaps they are going to do what the American auto industry did. We all saw what happened when they made junk for the US market. I guess I am just getting old because I can remember when Made in Japan meant junk. The Japanese sure turned that around and look what it has done for them. You are right when you say Made In America only means something when the company stands behind their product, and I guess the same will be true for any other country as well... Which is why Diamond is a great company, I have seen firsthand their customer service and how they handle issues with their product. They went out of their way to make things right for a friend of mine!

Golden West has been been making "cheap" antique style home tables for decades. Originally out of California. They keep pumping them out though, mainly as decor in homes for people who don't play pool seriously. Like I said a cheap fun table that looks okay. Playability I give it about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. World Of Leisure is in the same market with a much better table.

I hear you Jay,...building tables for 40 years, and three generations now...as was explained to me by Rob...I guess the current owner of Goldenwest mfg....which even makes it hard to believe they've been manufacturing tables for that long...and STILL can't get it right, or UNDERSTAND that you DON"T treat customers like they did Katie. I honestly believe that if it were anyone else working on her pool table, nothing would have gotten done to correct all the things wrong with her pool table....BUT, being the person that I am...I was not going to stand by and bear witness to someone getting screwed like that...not with the factory being involved...and so close.

I feel that being a Professional requires a little more than just being able to work on pool tables correctly...it should also require the backbone to stand up for the customer, and be their voice to make things right if at all possible. If I'd have just taken her table a part and installed the new Simonis cloth, put it all back together again...and called the job done...then I'd be endorsing the wrongs that the factory did...and therefore no better than them.

I didn't want to bring Diamond into this, as they've made mistakes as well....we all have, but one thing about Diamond...is they DO stand behind their product...and the customers DO mean a lot to Diamond. I'm the one that's always telling Diamond there are SOME customers you don't have to try and please....because they're just assholes! But still, we don't always see eye to eye on that:grin: No, this thread is about Goldenwest & Katie;)

Warranty

All Golden West pool tables have a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
What good is it to have this kind of warranty...when the factory won't accept the fact that they didn't build the rails on Katie's pool table right, rail bolts based on 16 1/4" centers won't fit on a slate with (1)...the wrong bolt hole pattern...the first slate replaced, (2) won't bolt up with all the rail bolts when the "replaced" slates are based on 16" bolt hole centers, as you can only install 2 rail bolts per rail...because the 3rd rail bolt won't fit.

Every component is guaranteed, except the cloth, cushions, and pockets, to the original purchaser as long as it was purchased from Golden West Billiards or an authorized dealer or agent.
Even with a sales reciept, they were still in denial that they sold Katie her pool table....in said condition.

Commercially used pool tables are Not covered by this warranty.

This warranty is void if the Golden West pool table is NOT installed or serviced by Golden West Billiards or its authorized dealers or agents.

The lifetime warranty does NOT apply to damage resulting in shipping, accidents,
alterations, abuse, misuse, fire, flood, earthquake, or any natural calamity.
The Golden West Warranty only applies to the original owner and is non transferable.
Katie...IS the original owner, and didn't get any respect at all!

There's more to come...once Katie tells her side of the story!

I personally am glad to see someone getting called out for potentially fraudulent business practices. Its a really sad day when even with a receipt in hand, a company still tries to treat you like a thief...and like they dont have to honor their own policies. Its just sickening I tell you...especially right here in America.

Do like I did and send them a nice little note and tell them what you think of that Bullsht, and also be sure to let them know that we will certainly be sharing our disatisfaction, right here on the public internet, each and every time their name comes up.

Golden West, are you reading this? Do you hear the division bell?
Here's an opportunity to make things right, or, be a schmuck. Your choice.
Either way, the truth will be posted here for all to see.

I'll tell you what, their single biggest mistake was in not apologizing to Katie...and asking her if there's anything they could do to make things right with her...AND offering to pick up my bill from her and pay it for her so that she didn't have to pay to get her table to play right...something like that should have been an automatic first responce....and not asked for...in which I didn't ask...because I didn't feel I should have had to...I expected it...but what I got...was that I didn't know what I was talking about...which is OK, because now that leads us to this point in time.

I don't know what could be worse but getting nothing at all isn't any better.

I wonder if you seen this one Glen !

Pooltablesdirect just didn't give anything. Table or refund !

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=167104

In Katie's case....she recieved the table alright...with miss-matched slates, rail bolt hole patterns through the slate that didn't match the rail bolt pattern on the rails so slate screws were used to hold the rails in place...through the slate bolt holes into the bottom of the rails...and this was a NEW table...from the factory....1 mile away, setup by THiEIR table mechanics! The story goes on from there....but I'll wait for Katie to chime in before I really get into it;)

I bought a Golden West table from the Portland factory several years ago now. They delivered it and set it up late Friday afternoon, so of course the mechanics were more concerned about getting out of there than doing a good job. A slate seam popped a few weeks later. When they came back out, one guy crawled under the table and pushed up on the slate with his feet while the other guy shoved a couple of playing cards in to shim it. I was aghast. They wanted to leave it like that but I made them take the cloth off and do it right. The table actually played pretty good except for a slight roll off on the right foot side of the table. It didn't take long for the glue to let go where the balls hit the foot rail on the break. I have since moved it and it still plays pretty good. I end up playing more on the snooker table these days, but it's held up well for the price I paid for it. Definitely did not like the job that the mechanics did.

When I showed Rob, the owner of Golden west how warped the end slate was on Katie's pool table by placing 5 8" machinist levels in a row across the end of the slate side to side so he could see the roll-a-coaster level of the slate....he informed me that machinist levels were to accurate to level slates with:eek::grin: I then showed him how FLAT the slate was with my 2' machinist straight edge...and the 1/16" dip in the slate in a 1 foot section of the slate....but he was quick to inform me...that HE could level that slate...I told him...no doubt...but I still wanted the slate replaced....sooo...I guess someone else will end up with that slate I had replaced...on THEIR pool table next...LOL

Glen,

If you're ever back in the valley (Phx.) I'd appreciate a call.

Have a great day.

Safe travels,

td

....but I'll wait for Katie to chime in before I really get into it;)

Glen

Please tell me there isn't more!

I hate to hear all of this, except the part that Katie now has a decent set-up!

Sounds like GWest has never had to be accountable for their wares and has developed poor customer service acumen as a result. Shame.

I think this is another thing that really hurts pool. All the old cigar chomping used car salesman have migrated to selling pool equipment. When beginners get sold crappy cues and tables, they sometimes never get to appreciate what a great game pool really is.The attitude in my area is they don't know any better, so we will make as much money as possible selling them junk. I don't know if its this way every where, but its the way it is here in central Ohio. I feel your pain.
