Harriman thread is now gone....

Why ANY pro would want to post on here is beyond me. They have nothing to gain and everyting to lose. When I first came on AZ there were about 30 pros plus the pro lurkers that very rarely posted.. Now you might have ten...about 6 of them hardly ever post. In between 100 came and left. Our loss but I don't blame them a bit. Johnnyt

Jay,in my opinion you are a top player on AZB. You have a plethora of savviness on every common sense issue ,at least the ones that I have read. It's people like you that make people like me feel comfortable posting. I want to thank you for your opinion ,you could of been a judge if you wanted to. Judge Jay,sorta like Judge Judy.

Easy on the "plethora" Billy. :)

I just wish I would have played a little better on the nine footers.

Judge, a top player in regard to your savviness in decision making, not your play on the table. Sorry:( :( :(

Thank you for recognizing the professional player as an asset to AZB. I'm sure you also recognized that Handsumm's post bothered me ,and it did for many reasons other than the obvious one. The professional pool players integrity has been compromised too often on this forum and this to me was another unnecessary attack against a prof.pool player.Once again thank you for the respect you have shown us (TPPP)and your perception on this matter is a breath of fresh air.

Bill,
I never had a computer / internet until about 7-8 yrs ago or so. I found this site by accident while researching some pro players. When I started on the forums, I was amazed at the pro players who posted here.

Skip ahead until now. Almost 95% of the people who participated on the Harriman thread that was pulled & this one are FOR the pro players and for them STRONGLY. Speaking only for myself, I had publically stuck up for or said some very flattering (no, Craig, it's not brown-nosing, it's sincere admiration:) ) things about almost every pro pool player. (Immonen is the only exception) I jokingly refer to myself as Grady & Freddy's tush-hog.
I have thanked them for participating, defended them in posts when the 5% would start the BS and genearlly offered them major league praise for contributing here. That's how the Harriman thread was going. BUT, I wonder where all the support was when Grady & Keith were getting blasted.
I consider Freddy a dear pal, but that doesn't mean I agree with everything that he says or does. When he came out with his "autograph" post, I was one of the first ones to say that I thought that was a terrible idea. After several more posts, things were clarified a great deal and even though he & I had disagreed, it never hurt our friendship.

What's my point in all this? Simply this....the MAJORITY of members here DO value & respect the pro player who does participate here. In fact, I would say that the pro player, for the most part, is treated EXTRA special, in that they are thanked & offered high praise for posting and their posts are given a great deal of credibility (and rightfully so). They are readily & frequently repped, and from what I've been told, they seldom, if ever, rep anyone back or return a PM. (Speaking for myself, I have received rep from several pros and almost every pro has returned my PMs and several even e-mail me) So for the most part, they are put on a higher "pedastal" than the non pro who posts here and it seems to me that they have oodles of support not always afforded to non-pro members.
BUT, when the 5% or so that attacks, argues or stirs the pot with the other members do that to a PRO player, the pro player just QUITS.

Nobody on this forum has more respect for the pros than I do. Others may have the same amount, but they can't respect them MORE than I try to. Most members here really value and sincerely appreciate the pros here. They're almost venerated! And when they just up and QUIT here, it is just as equally disappointing for me. And I'm sure MANY, MANY other members here feel just as strong as I do.

So, what else can we do that the majority here have not already done or are doing to help retain the rare pro that does elect to stay here?

I simply disagreed with him being banned when he said he would appologize to Danny for a post that he made without thinking before he pushed the submit button.

Handsumm's offer to apologize was more like an extortion attempt. It came with conditions, such as trying to force Danny to come on AZ (apparently Danny doesn't post on AZ anymore) and write something that likely wouldn't satisfy Handsumm anyway. Even if that had happened, Handsumm's "apology" likely would have been a day late and a dollar short, given the attack on Danny's character.

I also don't agree that he was banned for "a post that he made without thinking before he pushed the submit button". He posted, then followed up with further attacks, innuendo, implying the worst, etc. despite overwhelming opposition. It went way past "fact posting".

Utmost respect

Terry, I have the utmost respect for you as a person. I know you're a former police officer and my perception of police officers is that they are hard to negotiate with and they always have the last word. But thats not the case with you, you're very understanding and generous. In addition to that you have a civil way about yourself that people have to admire. And yes you do show tremendous respect to the pro players that post on AZB and I respect you tons for that. This forum is about pool, playing pool, pool products, and anything pool related. Realizing that ,one should try to protect and embrace the professional players ,not defame, insult,or speak down to them unless it is warranted. All people are created equal, but are not treated equal, and if you think that they are or should be you are fooling yourself. In regard to this forum and the professional player I have this to say, professional pool players should be embraced, not discraced and if it's the latter and they decide to leave it's AZB'S loss. Thank you,you are appreciated.

Billy,
Several quick follow ups...
I still am a policeman, although only about 10 other people on the forums knew that until you "knocked" my secret:D . I have been since April 1981 and still have 8 yrs 10 months & 24 days left on my sentence until I retire.

This post of yours was THE nicest one I've ever received here, and I have been very fortunate to have gotten way more than my fair share of kind words here. I know some will take this as being corny or brown-nosing, but those words mean the world to me coming from you. You are one very classy guy! I don't have enough superlatives to properly express how highly I regarded you BEFORE you posted this, although I think you know that! I don't know what else to say here. Thank you my friend.

As for the second half of your post, some great points were made and I agree 100%. I just wish everybody felt that way about the pros here.

Oh gosh... you're secret is out Terry! lol

Don't worry, there are quite a few of us "former police officers" and we all fit Billy's description of "hard to negotiate with and they always have the last word"...

:p

In our world, to lose is to die.

FWIW, I've known Handsumm/Belmicah for a few years and I'm sure he didn't mean any harm (by which I mean I'm sure he didn't have any malice for Danny when he made his post). However, I've never met anyone who seems to rub people the wrong way more than him. I've known people who didn't like him just from meeting him. He's not a bad person, IMO, there's just something about his personality that gets him into trouble on a fairly regular basis. Moreso than most anybody else I've known. He does have some ideas and ways of doing things that are different than most (like withholding an apology until the situation was explained satisfactorily to him), but I think we all do to some extent. And, of course, his mouth has gotten him in trouble before, too.
While I don't think what he posted was in any way appropriate, I'm sure he realizes he made a mistake. If and when I see him again, I'll be sure to give him a swift kick in the tail section for y'all. : )

I do not condone this type of behavior in any way and for you to suggest that is bullshit. All I said is that the guy posted facts, not rumors, not gossip and he obviously posted it in haste without thinking to answer the question that someone posed as to why the thread was titled "Harriman Haters". I guess it was his response as to how anyone could hate Harriman, whom I have the utmost respect for. I simply disagreed with him being banned when he said he would appologize to Danny for a post that he made without thinking before he pushed the submit button. I don't know what happened behind the scenes with him and the moderators and I do not care. I have given the pros here nothing but respect and I know 90% of them personally and have interacted with them in and outside of pool, but I also speak my mind and respect others opinions even if they are different than mine. I also don't like the fact that anyone could ever suggest that I would condone this or would do it myself. Blackjack even lumped me in with Fast Larry, whom I don't know, but have heard a lot about, and that is BS also. Everyone enjoy the rest of the day. I've said all I need to as to this thread or its content.
-------------
One of the things that I noticed was that after some AZers told the banned poster they objected to his posting this information he continued with only half of an apology.

The banned poster said he would apologize and that he could have been wrong BUT THEN- constantly demanded for Danny to explain the whole thing. He repeated his demand in other posts for Danny to explain the whole thing over and over.

It seemed as if the banned poster's goal was more than simply reporting facts.

Well, we finally agree on something. This guy wasn't just into outing Danny. He wanted to be a pool room detective and find out the whole story. I bet he's a knocker too. Just fits his personality.

It's the presence of the experts that keeps me here.... that and the nice people like Terry. I was really let down when Grady split... very disappointed. The same is true for all the other pros and other good people (Fatboy comes to mind) who decided they didn't need the $hit they were getting from some low-lifes that sometimes hang here.

Thanks to Blackjack, Billy I, Jay, Bob Jewett, Jai, Patrick and I know I'm missing others who I consider to be experts. It's your presence here that makes the forum worthwhile for me because I sure as hell don't come around here for the stimulating social reparte :D

I know that I am new here and no one knows me I feel like the new kid on the block but after lurking here for years I know most of you. the way you guys are communicating your thoughts, feelings and wisdom is inspiring there are many people reading these posts and learning allot from many of the elite people on AZ. I read a lot of threads about days gone by on this forum and how its gone down hill. In some ways maybe it has but the leaders on this forum have much influence on many who are learning here.

I Hope Danny Did Too

I hope Danny caught some of the responses and took note of the support he was shown.

WHY NOT JUST STOP AND DELETE THIS WHOLE THREAD MIKE?

BETTER YET MIKE (GURU, I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND I BORROWED YOUR CAPITALS LETTERS YOU ALWAYS INSIST ON USING WHEN YOU POST  ) - TURN THE TABLES ON THE BANNED POSTER & GIVE HIS NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS & ANY OTHER INFO THAT HE GAVE WHEN HE REGISTERED ON YOUR SITE. THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING.

Why should this thread be deleted? Because you don't like it? It's a thread about how far one can go without being banned, and the line that was crossed by Handsumm. Nothing innappropriate about that.
