Bill,
I never had a computer / internet until about 7-8 yrs ago or so. I found this site by accident while researching some pro players. When I started on the forums, I was amazed at the pro players who posted here.
Skip ahead until now. Almost 95% of the people who participated on the Harriman thread that was pulled & this one are FOR the pro players and for them STRONGLY. Speaking only for myself, I had publically stuck up for or said some very flattering (no, Craig, it's not brown-nosing, it's sincere admiration

) things about almost every pro pool player. (Immonen is the only exception) I jokingly refer to myself as Grady & Freddy's tush-hog.
I have thanked them for participating, defended them in posts when the 5% would start the BS and genearlly offered them major league praise for contributing here. That's how the Harriman thread was going. BUT, I wonder where all the support was when Grady & Keith were getting blasted.
I consider Freddy a dear pal, but that doesn't mean I agree with everything that he says or does. When he came out with his "autograph" post, I was one of the first ones to say that I thought that was a terrible idea. After several more posts, things were clarified a great deal and even though he & I had disagreed, it never hurt our friendship.
What's my point in all this? Simply this....the MAJORITY of members here DO value & respect the pro player who does participate here. In fact, I would say that the pro player, for the most part, is treated EXTRA special, in that they are thanked & offered high praise for posting and their posts are given a great deal of credibility (and rightfully so). They are readily & frequently repped, and from what I've been told, they seldom, if ever, rep anyone back or return a PM. (Speaking for myself, I have received rep from several pros and almost every pro has returned my PMs and several even e-mail me) So for the most part, they are put on a higher "pedastal" than the non pro who posts here and it seems to me that they have oodles of support not always afforded to non-pro members.
BUT, when the 5% or so that attacks, argues or stirs the pot with the other members do that to a PRO player, the pro player just QUITS.
Nobody on this forum has more respect for the pros than I do. Others may have the same amount, but they can't respect them MORE than I try to. Most members here really value and sincerely appreciate the pros here. They're almost venerated! And when they just up and QUIT here, it is just as equally disappointing for me. And I'm sure MANY, MANY other members here feel just as strong as I do.
So, what else can we do that the majority here have not already done or are doing to help retain the rare pro that does elect to stay here?
