Hatch The Shark

Off OP original topic

In my honest opinion this thread is freaking ridiculous and stupid to even be started. You completely just brought out a double edged sword of what EVERYBODY knew was going to happen before the match. Did you not read all the threads, comments, and posts about how these two were going to be at each others throats the whole time? Or how much they hate each other and there is absolutely no love lost between them? It was talked about for weeks before the match and everybody said this was exactly how it was going to be. So now that it actually happened you all are in shock that the match played out the way it did and that they acted like this towards each other. I mean come on are you all really so shocked at something that you KNEW was going to happen?

People have gotten off topic from OP topic of "Hatch the Shark", I didn't see any of TAR (cause I don't have paypal, TAR are you planning to take Credit Cards?) so I have no opinion of that but in OP defense he was merely stating his opinion of Hatch.

So.............you think because YOU knew all the above, everybody that replied here also knew those facts? You a silly boy.

No, we didn't "know" it was going to happen. TAR is breaking new ground, with a new format, pay structure, and controlled environment. All we needed was to see if the American professional pool player was interested in growing the format by acting "professional", or letting themselves get caught up in their own personal drama.

Now we know at least a little more.

Just an opinion, gang. I didn't see the match, so I'm basing this from reports here on AZB. I'm hoping it was a success for TAR so that the format can continue. And I'm hoping Dennis and Mike learned something, too.

Looks like my whole "Treat these guys like professionals, expect them to act like it and dont treat them like children" theory didnt work out so well this weekend. Yeah I am that dumb.

One thing I know for certain there will be a contract written for all future matches. In that contract will be rules of conduct backed up by fines. I dont mind guys showing emotion in the heat of the moment but tonight was just stupid and I let both guys know it. The thing is I dont think either one really understands what they did wrong. I like both guys personally but the jury is out on if either one will be back. Lot of that will depend on the feelings of the people who watched and especially the sponsors.

End of the day its my fault. I keep trying like hell to want to believe that if you do the best you can to treat people like pro's they will act like it. Doesnt seem to work out that way though.

I apologize to anyone who was offended or annoyed by the conduct. I know at several points I certainly was. I guess really disappointed is the best way to put it. Thank you to everyone who did support the match. It was a success and validated the new format to us. All the nonsense from TAR 25 will be sorted out and changes made. Thanks to the people who are behind us we can focus on things like the US Open 1Pocket and 10 Ball events next week as well as TAR 26 with Shane and Johnny at the end of the month. The ride gets rocky at times but I cant thank everyone enough for going along with us on the journey.

I didn't want anybody to miss that part. That's really good news. I was hoping the Archer vs. SVB match wasn't going to overshadow this one. It's great to hear that it didn't.

I was actually really impressed with the level of play of both guys. I know there weren't a lot of packages put together but the table wasn't getting the best of them in my opinion. I could have lived without all the sharking but the fact that the player in the chair is constantly in view of the camera definitely puts that player under the microscope. I'm not sure if I like that or not. It's nice to be able to see the guy in the chair but it also distracts you from what's happening on the table.

Well, based on what I have seen of these 2 playing against each other in the past I kinda figured that they might get into it a little. I thought that TAR also figured this and thats why they were miced up. Although after the podcast I thought that they were going to not get into any of those pissing contests. Also a little back and forth isn't a bad thing it actually adds to the event IMO and puts a little more than the money and the natural want to win into the game. Now they really want to beat each other even more. Pherhaps they went too far with it. I guess if Justin is dissapointed in the way they behaved then he must have felt it was really a negative impact in the event.

There is no right or wrong here but we are hearing from the people who didn't like the way they behaved for the most part, it would be interesting to see how many people thought that the back and forth added to the event and that is what they expected to happen. I think many of those people will probably keep their mouths shut at this point for fear of getting flamed. All I am saying is it would be interesting what the actual percentage is of people who thought it a disgrace and the people who got what they paid for. Maybe a poll would be in order. Maybe this would give Justin an idea of if this isn't nessesarily a bad think after all nomatter what he thinks. At the end of the day these things are to bring entertainment to the Majority, you can't please everyone all the time as they say but if there is only 15% of people who think it was not good and the other 85% saying they love it then obviously Justin, Mark and TAR can use that info as they think fit. Just my 2C.

Agree. I think the chair locations are largely determined by the shape of the room and the location of that door. I do like seeing the players in view when they are in the chair. But the seat Dennis was in seams closer to the table than the seat Dechaine was in. I feel if Dennis was a little further in the distance it would have been better.

That door location really sucks imo.

I'm sure Justin has tried every possible layout such as putting the scores table in the far left corner where Dechaine was sitting and put the two players chairs on either side against the wall. Prolly not enough cue clearance.

Mike is a douche bag.........I never sharked him once and after we were done he aw asking me out for drinks so im obviously not a shark or that bad of a guy..............He is the one that pulled out all the bullshit to win...........I never sharked him once.........I'm a class guy.........I guess you were not watching Mikes little ***** ass scream yell whine and throw cues.

Maybe I just have a weird sense of humor but........ Did anyone else find the fact that Mike asked Dennis to go have drinks after the match just fuggin hilarious?

Great Match!

As one who paid and watched all 3 days, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had not seen Dennis play that much before - what a great player. Here are some of my thoughts:

Dennis mentioned that if he would have broke the balls better, Mike wouldn't have had a chance. That may or may not have been true, but I suggest some of the older players (much younger than me) should take notice of how some of the younger players break and learn something.

The antics were somewhat expected, but didn't get too mean spirited. Of course, I even enjoy watching Earl on the stream. If TAR wants to impose conduct rules, I hope they give Earl a chance to come back.

Bottom Line: Thanks Justin and TAR!

Keith wants to go, and it's up to him. I can't leave a small dog like this. I did that one time for the U.S. Open, put my dog in a kennel for 10 days, and I will never, never, never do that again. I actually was kind of looking forward to going on a road trip down south.

Take the dog, leave Keith...lol

Maybe it's me but I enjoy the jawing back and forth. The only part that I heard that I thought was over the line was when Dennis said loudly, "I should never lose to this guy, ever!", while Mike was at the table.
To me, that was completely disrespectful. I admit, I didn't hear everything said but that one made me shake my head.

I dont care if 90% of the people liked it. At several points I was embarrassed to be associated with the whole thing. The first two days werent bad, it was about what I expected with some jawing back and forth. The third day was an embarrassment for everyone involved.

Im not in the professional wrestling business. We want to give the best players in the world a showcase for their talent and a chance for fans to see great one on one matches. We want the players to be comfortable to be themselves and act how they want within reason. Sunday was not within reason. We will just have to draw the lines a little more clearly and back them up with some teeth.

Usually the two players share the one tall table in the corner. One sits while the other plays. Naturally that didnt work out for this one.

Having followed around and staked a few pro players I've never known Hatch to be anything other than a gentleman. He's a competitor for sure but I've never seen him out of line.

I didn't watch the match but I have watched plenty of pro matches and sharking is far more common than most people want to believe or care to believe.

Personally speaking, there should be ZERO TOLERANCE for sharking. The reason it should be ZERO TOLERANCE is that it can get into the same thing that Dennis is saying, which is that Mike started it first..... I don't know who started it first but that is the reason why there should be ZERO TOLERANCE for sharking.

The slamming of cues, the snide remarks, the ad hominem verbal teasing, the body movement while sitting in the chair, the cleaning or repairing of equipment is something, or the insinuation of a physical thrashing knows no end and nothing good ever comes of it. Well, sometimes, one player can get another's goat and win a match but in general, sharking never produces a win-win situation.

I seldom disagree with what JAM writes but this time, I do.

Letting boys be boys is the dumbest thing TAR can do. When it gets to the fines for infractions, who is going to say where it started, and who deserves to get penalized the most. When Justin makes the call, there will always be those who say he was favoring this one over the other and knowing that, Justin will be hard-pressed not to balance the fines for poor conduct. Where does it end? The sad truth is that punishing one person for observed bad conduct will not get the job done.

When I was in the Marine Corps bootcamp, when one person screwed up, the whole platoon paid for the screw-up. If fines are to be levied, they should be levied at both players REGARDLESS of who started it. This worked in the Corps and it will work on TAR.

No, the players won't like it but being admonished in front of the International Internet Audience and having an audio bite of a flushing toilet, symbolizing BOTH of the players' money being flushed down the toilet will give them a little something to think about. TAR could consider giving the fine money back to the PPV viewing audience or maybe to a pool educational fund or buying some Kamui chalk for future players on TAR. Under no condition, should the fine money be returned to the players and the players should know that up front.

JoeyA, I think you may have my posts mixed up with somebody else. I never wrote anything about the players' behaviors during the match.

I'm the one who wrote about dancing monkeys but nothing about fines, infractions, and sharking. :p
