How is BMX racing an olympic sport, but billiards isn't?!

What about trampoline??? The friggin' springs on that contraption is doing most of the hard work.

OTOH, how can something that can be done successfully by an overweight, drunk man smoking cigarettes be considered an Olympic sport???

Maniac (thinks the Olympics is already oversaturated with not-so-sporty-sports)

Well ask the APA, and the BCA. i am sure they are eager to hear this?

It's pretty simple really, the physical skill it takes to race a bicycle at Olympic levels is more than it takes to play pool at a comparable level,at least in the eyes of the people that make these decisions.

Consider that the best BMX pros go from a dead stop, run over a couple pieces of pipe and still go to 35mph faster than your vehicle probably does.

I agree though, pool SHOULD be an Olympic sport. The main thing it has on it's side is the sheer numbers of people that play it at least casually are just behind the main sports of soccer and basketball, maybe world-wide. Tommy D.

My vehicle goes extremely fast so I doubt it. 400hp will do that.

I find every even exciting to watch. If pool were an olympic event, all you would have playing would be guys figuring out how they can chop up any money they get and where the nearest pawn shop is located to sell their medals.
Cue sports don't deserve to be in the Olympics in my opinion.

Derekdisco hit it on the head!!! I love pool and have played for 30yrs. I have backed games and ptu untold amounts of cash into the game at every level, but pool is just where it should be based on the players,
no-where!

How can pool make it to the Olympics when it cant even get on national TV, there are no marketable players in pool!!

Dressage certainly doesn't need to be there.

Sure, the handler is an experienced rider but the 40 million dollar horse does the work.

Agreed. My problem with the equestrian events in general is that no matter how you slice it, it is the athletic ability of the animals that will determine the outcome and I always kinda thought the Olympics should be about human sport. Yeah I know, horse people will say the rider matters. Well then, if you really wanna identify the best rider then have all of them ride the same horse.

Believe it or not, pool snooker and billiards are recognized sports by the International Olympic Committee, it just isn't an Olympic event. The WCBS (World Confederation of Billiard Sports) is recognized by the IOC.

Pool came relatively close to getting into the 2004 games in Athens. The Greek Olympic Committee considered 5 sports for inclusion in the games and chose two. Cue sports was the third choice. But it wouldn't have happened anyway because the IOC decided in 2000 not to include any new sports in the 2004 games. The current problem is that the IOC has limited the number of sports at the games so cue sports can only get in at the expense of another sport.

If you watch a guy hit a jump wrong at 40 mph and take a header into the concrete you can easily see why bmx is more sport than pool will ever be.

Someone has to help me understand this.
We live in Bizarro world!

This is why BMX is an Olympic sport (See Photo).

I would love to see pool in the Olympics but its unlikely. The sports in the games are physical with movement involved, the athletes are athletic and in very good shape besides a few who have got ridiculed for being so like the swimmer Leisel. Imagine pool players who are overweight or in poor physical shape vying for a gold on TV, people would be laughing about it.

Pool in the Olympics would have to be limited to players in good physical shape, not the pool players rocking the 6 months pregnant beer gut belly, its just not a good image for the game. It also would need the shot clock and short races to keep it exciting too. Sorry if this offends anyone but its the reality of why pool is not in the Olympics and games like ping pong are.

I can see why bmx would be an olympic sport but some for of cue sport should be too as for the overweight people not being allowed to play doesnt make any sense to me because just yesturday i watched the womens water polo gold medal game and there was a girl on the team who well to be nice was a "big" girl amd the same goes for half of the womens softball teams if you are calling all of these people very fit athletes then any beer bellied pool player is in good enough shape too if u ask me cue sports is a very very historic game im no historian but its been around a long time unlike half of these olympic games that i cant stand to watch

I think the Movie, ON ANY SUNDAY launched BMX. It never died, it is still growing.

Lets say Pool is not having the same life cycle in 2012 as BMX. Beside what Pool Players would the US send to the Olympics, who would pay or their training, and other experiences, as there team are supported from donations.

I can't see a hat being passed at the local bar to support the US Pool Team, as the money would get lost, or ????? I can see the BCA, APA, TAP, ACS or other group supporting the US Team.
