I hope this isn't true Mosconi Cup

I'd LOVE to see either HOPKINS or SIGEL be the non-playing captain.

How much fun would that be? I'm not knocking Varner, but his personality is as flat as a sheet of glass. You couldn't get a rise out of that guy if he just won the lottery and had the swedish bikini team begging him to fill their belly buttons with vodka to do naked body shots.

Hopkins, Sigel or Earl----- all bring knowledge, conviction and EXCITEMENT.

Hopkins or Sigel would both be good choices imo also. These are motivational and knowledgeable men, who would be hands-on coaches. I kind of like Allen first of the two for his proven leadership ability. The players all respect Allen, for good reason.

I think Charlie is a bad person and could be accurately described as a snake. I've heard way too bad stories (from well respected people) to respect that man.

That said, I don't care much about the Mosconi cup. The flag waving "rah rah rah" stuff isn't for me. And I don't understand why its a country vs. an entire continent. Also they play very short 9ball races and to me, its kinda silly.

WOW I can't believe I missed this whole damn thread. First of all Charlie is an American. I wish Charlie was black than the OP wouldn't have ever opened his mouth about this thread. Fact of the matter is if you look at the Mosconi Points, Charlie DESERVES to be captain of the squad.

Nick Varner would get Donkey ****ed playing Charlie Williams some 9-ball. Charlie knows how to win. How many times do you need Nick to captain the losing team. How many times is the USA gonna not put Earl on the team and keep losing? They been the underdog every year without Earl. Archer is not quite washed up but he ain't the same.

Anyway if Charlie becomes the captain I might have to switch my bets up. That means someone on team usa knows something about something.

It really is just an exhibition or sorts. The short races make nearly all the matches a coin flip. This means you really can't take anything away from the matches. However, it is one first class exhibition and I think it's the best produced pool show on TV. That is when I have the chance to watch it.

I have pretty good idea how the disciplinarian thing would go over with the American squad.

JoeyA: "OK guys you need to pay attention to what I'm saying..........."

Johnny: "I gotta go meet Fatboy"

Rodney "Later bro...."

Putnam: "I'm goin with Johnny"

Dechaine: "Can I get a bigger hat?"

Shane: "You can't beat me."

Stop it Justin!

"You can't beat me" That is priceless! About fell out of my chair.

My opinion is that they go with Varner or someone who has a track record of winning and knowing how to win. I know that Charlie has won some stuff but not a real contender at this point in his career to take the Cap job.

It seems like all of you look upon the captains role as some kind of reward to an older player, a purely honorable position.

IMO you are already giving Europe a head start thinking like that. Europe's captain has no credentials to speak of as a player. HOWEVER, he is an excellent and knowledgeble sports coach, with a lot of experience in supporting and backing players mentally and physically during preparations and tournaments.

Perhaps US should stop looking among former poolplayers and HOF's for a coach, and instead make use of the opportunity to actually try to benefit from a skilled COACH?

You are too smart for your own good. (but thanks because you are probably right).

Nick is an excellent non-playing member of the USA Mosconi Cup Team but I like the way you think.

If Nick ever gets the ax, I wouldn't mind seeing Stan Shuffett take a turn at the Captain's job.

Stan probably coaches more professional players than any other pool instructor in the U.S. I also know that Stan not only plays all games well, he understands what it takes to win and would be someone the players would get along with and respect.

The only problem with the captain's job is I think this position should be selected ONE YEAR in advance to give the captain time to do his job properly, meeting up with other Mosconi Cup players and working with them on their game and developing a rapport with the prospective Mosconi Cup players over the year.

Joey, they can't meet with a team a year in advance because they don't know who the team is gonna be until after the US Open. Hope all is well down in the Big E.

Maybe team USA needs extra tutelage from the Charlie Williams Academy on inappropriate SEXting of unsuspecting females, generalized sexual harassment of females, with some pointers on promoter blackmail and favoritism and rigging the draw, thrown in to boot.

I mean, these are his specialties. Right?

Why has this thread not been locked? 100% of these posts are nothing but downright slander.

Come on AZhousepro do your job, lock this thread.

The key problem with your response. (note the bolded portion)

SLANDER
1: the utterance of false charges or misrepresentations which defame and damage another's reputation
2: a false and defamatory oral statement about a person

If you don't know (and believe me, you don't) you really shouldn't speak.

Hahahahahaha! Good one!

Maybe you're right and perhaps that is what's got the "American squad" stuck in the mud, at least temporarily. It will take teamwork to beat the European team of that I am certain. No teamwork, no win for USA.

There seems to be a particular group of players that always seem to find a way back to the USA Mosconi Cup team and the Team Captain could meet with those players even if they don't get selected throughout the year, discussing strategy and motivating the players throughout the year.

Everything is all good down here in the Big Easy. Come pass a good time.

Come on man, he was trying to get laid, why you gotta keep blowing his spot up. You never had a miscommunication about some p*ssy. It happens man at least he was trying to get him a piece.

CW can flat out play some 9-ball though, no denying that. Go Charlie go.

Listen "Superstar" if you think that I don't know what I'm talking then maybe you should be the one not speaking & as for bullet pointing what slander means in the Oxford English dictionary read this very carefully: DO NOT INSULT MY INTELLIGENCE.

Extremely funny and probably very accurate. But all the more reason for getting the right man to pull the strings together. Go Joe!

I'm not sure what current playing ability has to do with choosing a non-playing captain. Also, the "USA" (whoever or whatever that means) doesn't not pick the captain or the players so I'm not sure specifically who you think is keeping Earl off the team. The promoter Matchroom does that by choosing the tournaments during the year that will be considered points earning events and hand picking the two wild card players. AFAIK it is also Matchroom that chooses the captains.
