I Miss TAR

I came late to the game, but still bought a lot of the ppvs once I had the money. I'll be buying a few more on demand matches. The epic one for me was the Harriman Schmidt 14.1 match to 400. I think each player ran 100+ twice. That's freaking insane.

TAR matches were great. Donny vs Shane for me was the best. TAR at DCC was the best ever, commentary was fun and we knew everything going on. Good times.

The early stages...

I have to say my favorite TAR moments were probably the early stages, or like someone said the coming out party. The year of DCC at the Executive was probably the best. Shane and Alex played two or three sets, Bucktooth and fatboy debut, among others. May have been the same year as the beer table challenge between Pickle and Kirkwood. Nasty was a helluva fella. I always called him Darth Vader because of the heavy breathing and such on the mic. First time I saw him I thought "damn this sure is a scary fella" and then spoke with him and got to know him and realized he was just a big teddy bear and as nice as they come. I always wondered how he felt about TAR after it got a bit more commercialized. That was a question I wanted to ask him the next time I saw him but never got that chance. I could be wrong but I think he kind of liked the negotiations of the matches, and the almost poolroom type of environment in that early year or two. He was always trying to make games for people, constantly calling stake horses and promoting the action.

I just watched again parts of TAR17 and looked at numerous Donny Mills breaks. What he does is actually more amazing then what I wrote in an earlier post.

When he was playing his best in the match, the diagram shows what he was doing break after break after break. Notice the 1,2,3,4 balls are left at the head of the table and the 6,7,8,9 are at the foot of the table. CB in the center of the table. Note the 3-6 carom.

Here was his racking routine:
1) Using the Delta-13 Elite, rack the balls using this pattern (from the rackers POV): 1-74-593-68-2
2) Roll the balls such that the numbers are pointing straight up
3) Press the 1 gently back into the rack (creating strategic gaps, per CJ's recent post?)
4) Break 2 diamonds up and one diamond over, medium speed, a little low-right english

I just got through looking at my purchase history for TAR PPV. My TAR streak went from TAR 24 thru TAR 39. I wish I would have had my head in the game sooner.

For me, the best from 24 to 39 would probably be the match between Busty and SVB. Someone please refresh my memory as to which TAR # .

It's the one where Busty runs an eight pack in 8-Ball. I'm pretty sure Busty won two of the three days. From what I recall Shane was on a hot TAR streak. But Busty was in epic form. What a BREAK!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge SVB fan. I equally appreciate and admire both of these players. Two of my top five for sure.

Every since I surpassed 40 years of age, I've noticed I pull a little more for the old guard. There's nothing like watching Busty, Efren, Earl and others performing at such a high level.

The new guard is fun to watch as well. Look no further than Mr. Shaw, Mr. Morra, and many others.

I vaguely remember someone posting long ago the results of many TAR matchups. If that info is out there could someone dig that up. It would be much appreciated.

Lastly, there was no better way to spend the weekend than watching TAR matches, and then heading down to the basement to learn just how easy they made it look.

My hat's off to the TAR crew. Thanks for the MEMORIES!

Thanks Justin!

Yeah. We didn't have any variety at all:

Mike Dechaine 4
John Schmidt 4
Denis Orcollo 3
Corey Deuel 3
Alex Pegulayan 3
Francisco Bustamante 3
Earl Strickland 3
Dennis Hatch 2
Danny Harriman 2
Scott Frost 2
Oscar Dominguez 2
Jonny Archer 2
John Morra 2
Jayson Shaw 2
Efren Reyes 2
Tony Chohan 1
Donny Mills 1
Stevie Moore 1
Sarah Rousey 1
Ronnie Alcano 1
Rodney Morris 1
Raj Hundal 1
Monica Webb 1
Mika Immonen 1
Justin Bergman 1
Jason Kirkwood 1
Gabe Owen 1

I wasnt just making sh!t up when I say Shane drew the money. But hey...what do I know?

Towards the end, all I could remember is Shane was almost always involved. If one would look at this "variety" I suspect that many of the other players were involved early.

I didn't say you made sh!t up, but if you can read that into what I wrote, whatever.

As far as "what do I know?", apparently it isn't how to make it successful and make a profit.

I still see BigTruck and others streaming, so apparently it can be done.

I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

TAR did ( Getter done)

Some people don't realize how you can learn lots from the Tar videos!! thanks for the fun and travels and all the extra stuff!! I saw Jared and Jessica this last wk end in a Iowa tournament. Olathe was always special

I like any high level pool match that I can view, but comparing TAR to any of the other offerings is a bit like comparing Walmart to Dollar General.

Aside from viewer numbers, how much of the variety was affected by willingness to participate?

I also miss TAR.

This thread seems to have touched a nerve for many here.

So, it's settled then...

Justin, when 'ya firing up the Winnebago? :thumbup2:  :yeah:
