Last night Justin Bergman won the 1p title in Tunica defeating Busty in the final.

Justin captured the attention of many and incredibly, after seeing him play in only 1 match ever, Danny DiLiberto exclaimed (prior to the start of the match) "this kid moves better than Busty".

How's that compliment for a 22 year old?

This kid is incredible and so I went to check out all of the buzz this morning about it here on az and guess what? not one word.

There was, however, about 7 threads to do with James Walden BS, false accusations, and fake apologies. :(

Has az lost it's way?

Are trainwrecks really much more interesting than a 22 year old phenom setting 1p on fire in Tunica?

Roberto Alomar spitting in the umpires face, was that more important than Sandy Koufax's perfect game?

I think I'll go start a thread now congratulating the kid on his very impressive win.

best,
brian kc <---- also gets caught up in trainwreck threads and not proud of it. :embarrassed2:

I'll be honest with you in that I've been having a wee bit of trouble finding *anything* about the tournament. I wish there was more coverage by way of charts, live updating, et cetera.

Yeah you're right JAM and that's unfortunate. I was going to post this in the thread on the crowd demographics at Tunica but it makes sense here. Social media so underutilized by everyone in the pool world. It wouldn't have cost anything to have a facebook page and a twitter account for the event and post regular updates. It's free advertising that reaches that younger crowd that is plugged in to social media. There are a few players on Twitter, but not enough in my opinion. A twitter and a facebook fan page are a must in today's world. My twitter handle is @HoosierdaddyIU if anyone wants to follow me there. I do post about pool, but also other sports and topics that interest me.

Coverage of the Diamond events is very tough. There are no charts to follow as each round is a redraw. The one charted event is the Bigfoot challenge. We covered that with reports on the front page. We also covered the banks win by Alex and on the left front page is the headline about Bergman.

We do not cover events in the forums. You have to go to the front page. We have had a reporter and a photographer at the event since it began and have published several articles on it. We are waiting for a wrap-up article now.

AZB has lost its way because some nut case posted crap in the forums? Pretty weird definition there.

Justin

I am pretty sure he his 25ish. Just started really playing again a couple months ago. One pocket is really not his favorite or best game. I hope he continues on and really plays because he is unlimited how good he can be. Can't wait till he gets home St. Louis is going nuts over huis big win.

Compare what you read (and see) on AZB Forums to 95% of Network
Television and you get ... Bickering, Conflict, Turmoil, Distrust,
Scammers, Liars, Cheaters, and open threats bordering on Violence.

I do not include NPR in this, as it is "no holds (or holes) barred" and should
be visited at one's own risk. I go there to "get away" from the other Forums
and the same old mud-slinging, day-in ... day-out.

Most of the other Forums I visit and contribute to are holding the BS down
to a minimum and stay "on topic" ... i.e. - Photography, Auto, Shooting, etc.

No question ... AZB is "THE" place for all of your Pool & Billiards needs
and I certainly appreciate the Mods time and effort to keep it civil.

Geez dude. Have a little patience. I haven't read the news yet. Here, occupy yourself for a few while I get caught up.

Though long known as a young phenom, Justin Bergman has traveled below the radar on the main tournament trail. I go to many tournaments throughout the year and do so every year, yet I've neither seen him hit a ball nor met him. Add to this that he won the one pocket final in the wee hours of the morning when few were watching and the absence of a congratulatory thread is not really that shocking. Also, as Jerry Forsyth noted, no tournament is harder to follow than the redraw format used at both Derby City and the Southern Classic.

Justin's on my radar now, though, and I wish him continued success.

PS AZB has lost its way for sure, but I'm not sure this is the evidence worth considering.

Greenie coming your way. This site does need to get back to more positive pool discussions. I played Justin up in Beloit one time a few years ago and he mowed me down pretty quickly. Granted, it doesn't take much, but I did recognize he was a great player. Happy for all the younger players that are making some noise in the game.

Jerry

Let me interpret for Brian, he sometimes needs help getting his point across .

I believe that Brian is pointing out that the general tendency of the AZ membership has begun to lean towards the airing of negative thoughts and reports, rather than being very interested in pool itself or pool news.

I'm quite sure Brian wasn't casting aspersions on your beautiful site, which we all know is the Buffalo Billiards of Pool sites. I believe that he is just expressing a concern about the general tone of interest of the membership and pointing out, albeit silently, that some of these folks needed to be whacked on the head with a (nerf ) hammer and get their priorities straight.

Thanks

Kevin

you have it all perfect Kevin - except the part that says *nerf*.

def not casting aspersions on az, the site.

best,
brian kc <---- reminded of a hilarious Howie Mandel standup where for nearly 5 minutes he says "IIIIII, IIIIIII, III, IIIIII, IIIII, IIIIIIIII, I, III, I w, I w, I wa, I wa, I wan, I wan, I want, I want, I want, I want t, I want, I want to, I want to, I want to t, I want to t, I want to ta, I want to tal, I want to tal, I want to talk, I want to talk, I want to talk better....."

Brian

For now on I'll just speak for you.

Jerry, I believe Brian is also saying in his kinda silent way, that he thinks the downhill slide of AZ's site started about the same time you began to regulate how kvinbrwr sold cues. Brian feels that if the bumping restrictions were lifted in respect to kvinbrwr and his wonderful offerings, the cloud of negativity currently shading AZ would be lifted, daises would pop up everywhere and the birds would be chirping.

I say maybe we give it a try.

I know you and I don't often see eye to eye so don't take this as an attack on you or anything.

I can see by your join date that you've been here for about 6 years. I've been here for about 10+ under one screen name or another. Its nothing new. Its an online forum. There's a certain ebb and flow to the type of content you see. Always has been and always will be. For a few months, we see nothing but CTE and aiming threads. Then there were a few months that we see nothing but CJ Wiley threads. Throughout it all, there are ALWAYS "Congrats to so and so" threads too.

Flames will ALWAYS see a ton of activity because people like staring at train wrecks. Its nothing new. It always has been this way and always will be.

I have had absolutely no problem following the tournaments via the SC website live updates...

True dat. I was aware they had a website too. I did not know about the SC website live updates until late in the event.

I was looking at this forum and the AzBilliards Main Page with the News. Usually, there is more forum chatter about tournaments in progress, I guess.

I did find out bits and pieces on Facebook. Seems like more people are posting up-to-date news there about happenings than on this discussion forum. I check both places now. :)

I think most things in life are like a good golf swing....
...a main component of a swing is continuously self-correcting muscles.

AZ has this happening all the time...if we played TOO safe....
..thoughts of little value would be the main fare.

I'd have to go out looking for street fights for stimulation.

I had a friend for years that I argued with at the drop of a hat....
...we would bet small on anything that could be proven.
I asked the owner of the room what he thought about that.
He said "I should be paying you guys for the live show...and I've
learned a few things."

You're one of the good guys, Brian....keep rolling up your sleeves.

pt..<...going back to NPR to explain once again that Zimmerman is a moron.

Oh, well then, never mind. :)

I, too, bemoan the negativity of the board of late, but it seems to be a pretty accurate reflection of the public in general. I have never known so many 'angry' people. A lot of folks these days are angry at something or someone or just the government. I see that anger in the forums and on the roads and I hear angry words in cafes and along sidewalks.

Though I wonder how much of this is my own imagination. My grandfather's generation said the generation of my father (the late twenties) was a waste and yet they went on to win WWII.

My father said my generation was a waste and we started by going to the moon and finished by driving the American economy and society in general upward.

So my generation trashes the young of today and gets angry or rude when they see jeans slung low or tattoos or piercings. And yet this generation will probably make such strides in health care that they will touch immortality and, if the economics work out, might witness a world at peace.

But I do not remember the general anger level being this high before. The older generation was pretty mad at the long-hair days of the 60's, so maybe this will cycle down again.

Jerry, that's an optimistic view of things but the truth is that one these days the older generation will be right. :)
