is Efren Done?? Wow!

He still plays better than all but one or two American players so are all the American player done?

If he's done I want to be done like that too!

I am speaking about Efren being the best in the world, I think there are a few guys who he might not like it against in an all around right now. I am sure Efren is close to retiring anyway from true competitive play.

I still think he will win a few world championships, but clearly he has been on the downward curve for the last year or so.

It is probably not a decline in skill or ability, but a loss of the passion and desire. He is a celebrity and an ambassador of the game now.

Well since I had a dog in this fight or more correctly 300 dogs I feel I'm allowed to
express my opinion. Great event, excellent matches for the most part. Efren was
to be honest a disappointment maybe he's past his prime and should not have been there.
I don't remember voting for him to be honest. Time catches up with everyone.
Right now the player that has impressed me the most is Appleton, what a monster!
Pat just announced that the winner will be back next year to defend so it sounds
like this is more than a one time deal.

Thanks for supporting the event Bob, I was glad to support it too and hope it becomes an annual event.

That was what I voted on as well. He can still hold a cue and he can still kick my ass, but Efren is no longer the king, the king is dead, long live whoever the new king is, maybe Dennis?

Efren

Doesnt make any difference to me Efren reyes is a class act .

True champion all the way. Maybe he is worried about the flood and his people.

I hope the best for him.

10ft

lets not forget this table 10ft makes hugh difference .. he wouldn't have lost 5 matches if 9ft table thats for sure.. different game on ft.. lots tougher than 9ft table by a mile

With Age comes illnesses, Efren's body is nor strong that much anymore, his break is weak, but i bet he will still have chance in games that do not require hard breaking. Time will tell.

Lots of the misses were very short distance shots never imagine he would miss.

10ft

breaking not the problem making balls on 10ft and getting position very tough..esp for a guy thats 58.. if 9ft he still be mixing it as he showed the last 30 years

By that definition (best in the world) an awful lot of players are done. Earl, Archer, Souquet, Django, etc.

Dude...the man just a few days back made the FINALS of a straight pool tournament containing many of the world's best straight pool aficionados. He's not done yet. Shane went 2-3 in this tournament, you think he's done? A single tournament with unique playing conditions doesn't mean much.

if tiger woods won the us open next year and then finished a close second in the pga
what would you think of a golf fan who asked if he was through?washed up?lost his drive"

i would think the same thing about those who think that about efryn

until someone can beat him regularly,i think its safe to say he is still the man to beat

is he the champion one pocket player and the runner up in straight pool

don't fool yourself, there is not a player alive who will bet big money to play him one pocket or even an all around of one hole, straight pool and 9 ball

or if there is,i will take efryn

one bad showing in an 8 ball game is like making one bogey on the back nine

Tiger is still the best golfer and efryn the best pool player
in my book

if he plays a big game, call me for action

I cannot believe he finished 0-5 in the Accu-Stats 8 ball invitational. It was tough to watch, he made more errors then one could count and missed so many balls over the 4 days. He and Corey were the weakest players I thought out of all of them, they just did not look hungry. I think this might be it for Efren but hope he wins another major. What were the odds on him going out of the round robin 0 and 5?

I voted no.

Then I mused that "iusedtoberich" voted "yes" - since he's usually right on in the handicapping department, I wondered if Efren might really be done.

Darren,

As far as difficulty is concerned how to you compare playing 8 ball on the 10 footer to playing English 8 ball?

Sorry for the mini thread hijack but I would be very interested in hearing what Darren thinks about this.

Twice in my life I ran naked (okay, with undies) in the rain, and once more I'd like to do it again. Maybe with my daughter in the Philippines :). Getting old is a b-tch, try not to let it happen to you! :o

Right...
Some on here aren't old enough to understand yet.
alas we were there once..lol

I love it when this comes up. People are so quick to say "Efren is done...too old...can't get there anymore"! What a crock that is. Efren remains the best player on Earth, and will remain so for some time. He will again dominate the DCC, as he has done so many times before.

Best player on Earth today or even at any point in the future, possibly not, but a pool champion and legend who deserves respect? Absolutely. This thread is disrespectful to arguably the best pool player that has ever lived. :nono:
