Jr. I get your not a fan of people down talking the old man. Respectable. But he was wrong.
If he answered any of my five questions honestly he would have to admit that.
Its not a big deal to make a mistake. Ive made a millionish in my life.
Better to just own up, say your sorry you took the wrong path and be better in the future.
Barry put him in a bad spot and he made a poor judgment call. It happens.
But don't come on here all mad it makes no sense.
Thanks for your approval and permission for me to feel the way I do - it's reassuring... I was I in a bit of a slump - but I'm feeling much better now!
And thanks for imparting your wisdom and judgment of his actions upon me. Since you state unequivocally that he was wrong, that certainly must be the end of the discussion. I'm sure your 45+ years of experience in the industry and knowledge of the game at the highest levels are certainly on par with my father's. How silly and juvenile of me to have a dissenting opinion.
And, again. I will certainly see things more clearly when he finds the time to come and answer your 5 questions. In the meantime, I'll take a stab at them myself - if you don't mind. Of course: I can't speak for my father - but, it's late and I finally have some free time - so, hopefully you'll entertain my thoughts.
Here, are your questions. Took me a minute to locate them:
Allen did say he would respond so?
1. How do you feel about the people on the waitng list you bypassed?
2. Is it ok that you or barry paid a player to take his spot?
3. You never checked the list: before leaving home, when you got there, or at the players meeting/ draw?
4. You agree with Jay yet still played, why?
5. Would you have been ok with what has transpired at the S.B.E.?
Thanks, I look forward to your side of things to get a better perspective.
So, my feeble answers based on my limited knowledge of the situation:
1. Since he was personally invited (into an event that he's played since its inception, and won twice) and promised a spot - before it was full - by the event founder and promoter (that he has known for 40 years), I don't think he was ever on a wait list. He should have been what some people would call "registered" or "enrolled". Which, incidentally, comes before people on a waiting list.
2. Well, if someone deserves a refund because they were accidentally sold a spot that had previously been reserved - that seems proper.
3. If I was a player (I'm not; this is pure conjecture) that had spoken to the promoter, whom I've known for 40 years, and have been playing in his event the majority of those years - and he personally requested that I come play for the anniversary - umm, no, I might not check the bracket online. I'd probably take his word for it. And when I arrive a few days early and find out a mistake has occurred, I'd speak to someone to get it resolved. Probably the guy that invited me, the promoter.
4. Sure, I'd agree with what the director tells me. If the promoter (the person who hired the director, and who owns the event) calls me and tells me a mistake has been made and requests that I play and says the situation has been resolved and he would really like me to participate - well, I'd take his word on it. It's his event, not mine, or the directors.
5. This would be unlikely to happen at the SBE because we have a triple-check system in place to handle such a possibility before it happens. And, in the unlikely event of some sort of accident or mix-up (they happen) - yes; ultimately someone at the highest level (the promoter) (in this case, my dad - remember, still just Jr speculating here) would make a decision based on what I (he) thought was best for the people involved and the event. Knowing, unfortunately, that you can never make everyone happy.
Hopefully this helps address your concerns. You are more than welcome to use the phone number he provided for a direct conversation if he does not reply to your forum questions in a timely manner. Please be patient; he is not much of a computer oriented person, he's devoted most of his life to playing pool, not typing.
