Jay Helfert's Big Facebook Announcement - $60K Carson City Challenge

good group...should be interesting to see who takes the last two spots...could very well be Americans.

I love how these threads always sway towards who is and who is not invited and who people would have on their list. When you have an invitational event, you can invite whoever you please. I am sure Jay knows what players to invite and why, in order to make this event successful.

What else is there to comment on really after an announcement like this?

We could all just say "Great job Jay." but that would be a short and boring thread would it not?

Well, that's 7 of the 8 Filipinos that Jay said would be there.

Wonder who the 8th will be?

Jay posted on Facebook today that he is producing a 16 player invitational 10 ball tournament Feb 5-8, 2015. The puse is $60,000 with $20,000 to the winner. First round losers will get $1,250. There is NO entry fee for the event.

1. Dennis Orcullo
2. Darren Appleton
3. Lee Vann Corteza
4. Thorsten Hohmann
5. Francisco Bustamante
6. Mika Immonen
7. Efren Reyes
8. Niels Feijen
9. Carlo Biado
10. Shane Van Boening
11. Warren Kiamco
12. John Morra
13. Jose Parica
14. Oscar Dominguez
15. TBD
16. TBD

Big kudos to Jay for putting this together - with a tremendous field. Possible to be shown on Filipino TV and/or streamed.
What happened to Alex the Lion

First of all my sponsorship comes from a filipino community, thus half the field will be filipino players. I'd like to get Alex in there if I can, but he seems pre-occupied with snooker at the moment, so we will see.

I wanted to have four foreign players and four American players to round out the field. Some tough choices had to be made and no matter who I pick I will be criticized. I guess that goes with the territory. If this event is successful and I can do more like it, I will bring some other players into the fold.

Thanks for your support.

P.S. I have not invited Parica as yet.

Great selection! This will be a thriller!
I would suggest Ralf Souquet for one of the spots.
Really looking forward to that show!

Awesome mouth watering delicious event.

-Last 2 slots from following:
Johnny Archer
Ralf Souquet

Wu
Chang
Baby Ko

First off thanks Jay for your efforts.

Second, I don't understand why you would have an invitational, instead of an open.

I just had a invitational tournament that paid a little over $1MM. Luckily I was the only player invited so I won..... Stupid joke, but there is a point there....somewhere.

That's a great idea! When you get that organized there's little doubt all the best will show up.

$60K prize fund and no entry fees?

Sorry for being somewhat dense, but what will determine or define this event as being successful? In other words, how do they make back the $60K?

Admission fees? Pay per view? I sincerely hope it will be successful.

I 100% agree with you. A good thing for pool and there is always trolls looking to knock it in some way or another.
Nice job Jay!

I would like to see Johnny Archer in it, he plays good for the cheese.
Oh, please stream it. Jay, you are still the man!
