Jeanette Lee's version - it's different

Jeanette has been around tournaments and calcuttas long enough to know how things work and should not make excuses.

Unfortunately for the fellow who bought Jeanette in the calcutta, he expected her to act like a professional -- and she would have if the cameras were rolling.
bump that!!!!!!you see what happens when you let a women into a mans world!!!!!

Jeanette is here, tip toe tip toe.

Poor JL. She actually took time out of her life and away from her business and family to play in a tournament. Boo Hoo. Are you kidding me? Her version isn't any different than the guy she stiffed and you can obviously hear the snobby tone of the post with her side. I work in the richest city in the US and often deal with women/housewives that act like they are soooo busy if they have to go to the gym and take tennis lessons. Much like JL it seems.

She needs to stick with endorsing gimmick products for a buck. I love that she had to leave because she just couldn't be around another human being. God forbid he may have been a laborer or truck driver, icky poopie. Didn't he recognize her? How dare he have a different opinion as to what went down. Send him on his way with a piece of cake.

JL left because she was offended by the reaction of the Buyer. We havent heard from him, but isnt it possible that he was offended by Jeanette's actions which caused his reaction?

Are you talking about that " for every actaion there is an equal and opposite reaction " stuff. I was waiting for you to break it down like this.

I like whomever said if the cameras were rolling she would have handled that different because that is most likely true.

Furthermore when it comes to a Calcutta this happens so much it's almost sick. There was a tourney in Sanford this past weekend where I bought a guy and he came to me 3 matches in to buy his half. I wanted to say know but I also didn't want to see him throw me in the river. I'm a fan of people not being able to buy themselves for that very reason. Most of the time the guys that buy these top players have no chance of winning the tournament, it's kind of the underdog's chance to make a score and sweat the tourney after they go 2 and out.

If I was the guy I probably would have let her get half not cuz it's right but because if not she quits and he pisses away 140 bucks instead of getting 70 plus calcutta cash. Mathematically it makes sense to let her in. Afterwards I would have told her off after I got the cash, who knows maybe he woulda made her so mad she would have given him the money anyway

That has to be one of the funniest things in this mess so far

What if 99% of us said, "Let's check out the pot and field first." then played a match or two, won, and then went looking to buy into the calcutta? We wouldn't even be having this discussion. We ALL know how that would (or wouldn't) work out. Next question.

I don't know about you but I often wait until the calcutta is over to buy half of myself. Once I decided against it as the calcutta was relatively small - $400 or so to the winner and I went for $40 so it would have cost me another $20. Wouldn't you know I won the damn tournament?

I do think that the time to decide yes/no is before the draw. After that it's no unless there is some other agreement in place.

How I feel about this situation is that if the buyer agreed to give Jeanette half AT ANY TIME - I mean if he agreed to it before witnesses then that's it - she's good for the money and that's it.

So if in fact he was informed that JL wanted half and he said ok then that's it and she owes $70.

Looking at JL's side of it this is what happened. He should have taken the $70 and been done with it and made money.

But piss off your horse and maybe then she won't run at all. :-)

It sounds to me like it was stalling on both parties parts. Jeanette stalled until she liked her chances and the guy who bought her waited until she beat his friend and then decided not to split it. If she would have lost to his friend I have no doubt he would have let her have half.

I very much doubt that JL was playing position on $70. I have been around her many times and she doesn't sweat crap like that. More likely she was busy and didn't give it much thought.

What's really unbelievable is all the chatter over this.

Do you do talk about Jeanette for fifty pages and start FOUR threads when she goes and does free exhibitions to raise money for charities? Do you write tons of critique when she goes to events and ends up spending WAY more time coaching and hanging out.

Does she get any AZ love for all the people she brings to pool by virtue of her fame?

No, but damn if she get's a little pissy at a guy WHO IS BETTING ON HER and walks out then she generates tons of responses from people waiting to put her down. If a guy is BETTING on her then he should make sure she is HAPPY and ready to play.

I like the fact that someone else posted that the time to badmouth her would have been AFTER she won the tournament. Then you could CRY about how the Great Jeanette Lee robbed you out of half of the calcutta money. But the guy that is betting on her and is then rude to her throws it all away when he pisses off THE PLAYER - because the PLAYER is the ONLY ONE in the transaction that CAN MAKE MONEY.

All the ****ing rubbernecking over this is disheartening in my opinion.

as far as i'm concerned (as if it matters to anyone) if she paid her way into the tournament she doesn't owe anyone anything. if she felt like dropping out of the tournament because she was tired or just for spite it's her business

There's an old saying in the film making business. "Say anything you want about me, just spell my name right!" In other words, ALL publicity is good publicity, be it good or bad.

Jeanette definitely got her share of publicity for this one. The Black Widow legend grew another notch. A few more people will come out to see her play. Not since the Ronnie Wiseman thread, have I seen a thread generate so much interest.

You nailed it!

It's the same with Earl Strickland, no matter what happens his legendary status will only increase. Some people will continue to love him no matter what he does, and some will hate him more.

I think Jeanette Lee brings out the same in people. They either hate her or love her. Everyone has an opinion, and from a business-perspective, that's good.

There are no saints in pool. I keep telling you all, "It is what it is", take it or leave it, and I don't believe its going to change anytime soon. Johnnyt

Jay and Roy are both right, but I can just hear all the snickers now when they announce Jeanette's name for the next calcutta she's in, lol, or the jokes that aboud when Ronnie moves his coin in a big gambling match.

I still hold to the fact that if the scenario happened where Jeanette didn't specifically say before the draw that she would buy half and pay later and the buyer said "ok", then she is 100% in the wrong.

To take it a step further, if she forfeited on me I would call every TD in every tourney she played in that I was aware of and run her up in the calcutta and buy her. I'd basically make her forfeit in every tourney from then on out just to spite her back.

For cryin' out loud, you're a STAKE HORSE..... OH, you're lookin' to get one of your playahs a job. I get it.

San Francisco or Washington, D.C. would be my guess. Just think about that TRILLION DOLLARS OR SO, that our Congress and president are so anxious to throw away.

Didn't someone say there were 59 players in the event? That would mean a 64 player bracket, and according to Jeanette was 2 or 3 matches from the winner of the winner's bracket. That would mean she was on her 3rd or 4th match of the tournament, and plenty of time to get the buyer paid.

I also want to comment about her remarks (via Willie) saying the buyer could have refused to sell her half. Buyers in a Calcutta HAVE TO SELL HALF TO THE PLAYER, if the player wants half. They have no choice, it is a rule in Calcuttas.

I suspect there is some 'hedging' on both sides of the issue. And short of an emergency or illness, I do not think forfeiting out of an event is ever 'justified', especially for such a high profile player as Jeanette.

Lesson learned from this - "Do your business face to face, not through a 3rd party".
