Just what song does it for you in the poolroom?

This one's a no-brainer for me. It's "Shoot to Thrill" by AC/DC. It's also the name of my nine-ball team.

Anything by Metallica is welcomed and I am also a big fan of the 80's "hair-bands" (Cinderella, Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt, etc.).

Songs by Great White never hurt my feelings, along with SRV (of course).

Sprinkle in a good selection of Southern rock (Skynyrd, .38 Special, Georgia Sattelites, etc.) and I'm good to go!

I'm almost 56 years old. As April Wine once sang, I like to rock!!!

We would probably get along just fine on a cross country drive.

These will probably be on everyone's list, but here's my all time top 5 pool songs:

5. "How Can I Live Without You" Michael Bolton

4. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" Carole King

3. "My Heart Will Go On" Celine Dion

2. "Killing Me Softly" Roberta Flack

1. "I Got You Babe" Sonny and Cher

STROKIN' by Clarence Carter.

Strokin' to the east and I'm strokin' to the west... I'm strokin' to the woman that I loooove best. I be strokin'. Stroke it Clarence Carter, but don't stroke so fast....if my stuff ain't tight enough you can stick it up my WOOOOOO!!! I be strokin'!!!

I'm old enough to enjoy uptempo Doo-Wop, 60's Motown, as well as late 60's and early 70's Zepplin, Cream etc., but when on that rare occasion when "96 Tears" by ? and the Mysterians plays, just stay in your seat 'cause I'm in the groove.

The clicking of the balls, and quiet whispers, with NO music playing. (And I'm a musician).

I like it old school. Dark, quiet, and smokey.

You and me both, brother.....I'm old school too....

....The click of the balls...the quiet scraping sound of chalk going across a tip...the sound of stay-awake coffee being poured...the quiet sound of slow fans whirring overhead on a hot afternoon...maybe the ballgame on the tv (not too loud)...old time woofing & stories being told...and always the sound of the front door opening - is it a regular walking in? - a roadman maybe? - or, hopefully, a fish...:).....THIS is the music of an old school pool hall, and what beautiful music it is.

a pool hall that looks something like this...

Johnny Cash

Hello, my name is Johnny Cash

About twelve years ago I took an even dozen tough certification tests. I studied forty to sixty hours before each test but the morning of the test I was done. No cramming and I wanted to chill on the hour drive in to take the test. I always listened to some great country on the way in. I'd listen to one CD, either Merle, Hank Sr, Mel Tillis, Johnny Cash, or an all time favorite of mine, Marty Robbins. I like Waylon and Willie but they weren't right for getting my head where I wanted it.

Johnny Cash outscored all the rest in actual testing so when I was headed in to take a really tough test he was the man in the box. It was superstition but I was the only person I ever saw pass all of the tests without retaking any.

PS: Ghost that is beautiful!

Bad Company - Bad Company
Witchy Woman - Eagles
Frankenstein - Edgar Winter
Rocket Queen - GnR
Machine Head - Bush
Last in Line - Dio

Makes me laugh at the thought this..... at a room I use to play at in the south, we used to annoy the hell out of this one guy with the Macarena when it first came out. It bugged the crap out of us too, but his reactions were priceless..... :D

The Police...Synch II, Roxanne,

I had a chance to visit two very nice rooms recently : Mr Cues and The Marietta Billiard Club in Atlanta.

I'm practicing by myself one afternoon at Mr. Cues. It's a huge place and there's maybe two dozen tables going, all guys, throughout the room. They're playing piped in classic rock. Otherwise, not a sound, other than pool balls.

It's mid-afternoon and the next song that comes up on the sound system is "Roxanne" by The Police. There's that very distinctive opening set of repeating guitar chords and drum. And then... after the guitar chords and the drum stop... at just the right moment... half a dozen falsetto "Roxannes" emanate from all across the pool room.

Then, nothing but dead silence.

Sting goes on to sing about no red dress tonight.

And then, muted giggles pop out from across the pool room, as everyone realizes what had just happen :-)

pretty much anything except country and rap. I like a quiet golf course, and a noisy Pool Room. Well, I can let Johnny Cash slide, but no other country.

No music is good with me as long as there isn't some really loud, bragging person next to me. Then I want to play him and shut him up.

When there is music, I agree with the classic rock and metal in general. A band or two not mentioned yet that I play well to are

Alice in Chains
ZZ Top
Deep Purple
Judas Priest
Jeff Beck
Nugent
Mudvayne

I defy anyone not to bust out their best Eddie Murphy when Roxanne starts.

I like Santana songs or Ray Charles is good, I also added one lately, Common's new CD "Universal Mind Control" as well as the Gypsy Kings, Buena Vista Social Club and Hotel California is a good one.

Soooo Many..............memories attached to so many songs. Just curious what other people like to hear. Top five?

1. No question. Seger's "Turn the Page."

2. Reminds me of action in the early nineties. Yoakam's "Streets of Bakersfield.

3. G&R's "Welcome to the Jungle." They used to play it ten to twenty times in a row in a dump I used to make a killin' in.

all of those. and.....

One more night- Phil collins--------color of money
the payback - james brown-----------poolhall junkies

Everytime i hear a song from a pool movie I feel refocused. I cant help but see the balls going in the pockets on the movie and everything starts to click.

and anything country or rap. Weird combo i know but thats me

I cant play in a poolhall with no music. Nothing sharks me faster than having to listen to some idiot "teaching" his girl how to rack or how to shoot. or two idiots trying to match up at the top of their lungs for like 30 minutes (and its usually over just a few dollars)
